New Year's Resolution

Posted by Active Belle Dec 28, 2007

My first goal for the new year is to complete all of my scheduled workouts in January. I have been pretty consistent with my workouts in that I usually miss about one per week. So I want to focus January as a time to get in a better rhythm. I have two trips planned so it will be important to look ahead, know what workouts are coming up, and plan accordingly.

First--I will be in Chicago at the beginning of the month. My parents have a stationary bike and a treadmill so there should be no problems getting my workouts done.

Then I am headed to the Cayman Island which will be a little trickier. I will have to rearrange the workouts to make my rest days the days that we are traveling, but with some planning, that should be easy. I just looked up the hotel that we are staying in, and there is a recreation facility. If the picture is not deceiving, it looks like there are some treadmills. I know the island has bike rentals and of course there is open water swimming...although I am really intimidated by that!

I have always found that running or biking around a new place is the best way to get to know it and see some of the local color, so here's to hoping I stay on track!

Hi,

Best of luck in your training. I read that you have a mountain bike. I am an active mountain biker. If you have access to trails, mountain biking is GREAT exercise for your your whole body. I never thought biking did much for the upper body, but it does because you have to constantly pull on the bike and adjust your weight. You'll love it!

Hey Michele, Thanks for the comments! Mountain biking was actually my original outdoor passion. I picked it up in college and there is still no other activity that I enjoy as much as a full day out on the bike trails! I went to school in Boulder and spent many weekends camping in Moab--Porcupine Rim will always be a favorite.
What are some of your favorite trails?

by the way, you are so right about the upper body workout...It always seems to surprise me when my arms are sore the next day.

Belle,
My mind is already spinning over how many things you have been doing. That's great! I hope to someday own a mountain bike, swim, hike, go to yoga...I love it! Since we are in the same area, we should get together sometime. I would love to start swimming! Good luck at Wildflower!!

Hey DeckerGirl! thanks for the support--my mind was spinning thinking about all those stairs you had to run! We should definitely get together! misery loves company, right? Although, I think we are discovering it is more fun than misery in the end. :)
