Holy Smokes . . . .

Married, children, dog and the craziest schedule ever.  Yep, this is gonna take some discipline.  No question that the focusing on the diet has to be a priority.  A busy schedule is not somehing that many of us can change.  We have responsibilities that we need to uphold.  Diet, however, is the easiest thing to work into it.  If you miss a work out here and there (which hopefully I won't), at least you won't hurt yourself if you ate correctly that day. My biggest struggle is finding the right foods to supplement.  We all know the difference between low cal and high cal foods.  But which ones really satisfy and curb your appetite. That is my biggest struggle right now.  I will work through it.  Thanks for all the support out there.

Progress - running is going well, lifting is going well, eating is not going well.  I know, consistent theme.  We will get there.

One step at a time Brian.  The pieces of this new running career will eventually merge and you will begin to wonder how you got by without running.  One tip that has worked well with myself and the runners I've coached through the years is to plan ahead for meals just like you do with your running.  Make a list of the foods for snacking, prepare foods ahead of time and pack them for the day.  That way it takes the guess work out and you are never grabbing for the wrong things last minute.  Try to find a weekend day for meal planning and prep.  It gets easier as you go.

Let me know if you have any questions on your running training.

Jenny,

eating is my kiss of death.  I truly can plan, but I really don't know the foods that will fill me up, satisfy my crazy hunger and not make me hungry and hour later.  I will eat dirt if I have to.  do you have any suggestions?
