10,000 Bike Miles in a Single Year

Posted by Gale Bernhardt on Nov 24, 2008 9:12:56 AM

I must tell you about Ron Kennedy, a local rider that rides with my Sunday group ride on occasion. Yesterday, when I last saw him, he was within 24 miles of achieving 10,000 miles in a year. Holy cow!

I'll include a photo later, but I just couldn't help but recognize his achievement today.

His software keeps track of a rolling average and total miles. Once he saw the 9,000 mile mark he wondered if he could reach the magic 10K.

He made it by commuting to work, riding on some of the lunch rides and weekend rides.

I'm sure you made the goal yesterday - huge congratulations to you, Ron!

(Ron does subscribe to the blog, so if you have questions about his achievement you can post them in the comment section and I'm pretty sure he'll answer.)

Hi Gale,

Thanks!  I figured I'd take I couple minutes before I headed off to work to check out some of my favorite blogs.  I didn't expect to see my name on one!

As my father-in-law once told me about my cycling to work everyday regardless of conditions that's "senseless dedication to a cause."  I think he'd say the same thing about 10K miles!

Here's the profile of my miles over the year: http://picasaweb.google.com/rrkbighorn/10KBikeMiles#

Thanks,

Ron

Well done!  10K is a ton of miles.    I like that "Senseless Dedication to a cause".    I'll have to put this on my list of things to do if I ever do loose my senses    Right behind doing Leadville...

Ron ~

Cool graph, thanks for sharing! It is interesting to me the patterns of volume that emerged. Early in the plan you had a series of one on, one off weeks. Later in the plan, I saw more weeks of building volume.

Nerdy coaches love to see this kind of stuff.

Don't know about you, but I suspect we'll see Steve at the Pbville start line again one day...

Ron, congrats!  You achieved ~2X of my 2008 miles!
