Hey Jasper ~
The entire group on this ride is from Colorado and we all love to climb. For wine, I can say I sampled wine every day and a couple of beers too. Add decadent chocolate desert, raspberry gelato and escargot bathed in butter to that list.
The particular tour that we did was custom designed based on the cyclists on the trip. Most of the people on the trip ride year-round and some race.
That written, I would recommend a Tour de France cycling trip to anyone that looooooooves cycling and the Tour. To ride up Romme, Colombiere and Ventoux before the riders in all of the fan-crazed flow of traffic is indescribable (though I'll try to describe it later in the week). Cycling fans are absolutely fanatic about the sport and make tailgaiters at an NFL football game look like amateurs.
...and France...to ride in France is spectacular.
Not all of our riders rode every day. Some wanted a break from the cycling. So, though you might sign up for a tour that is challenging, should you decide you need a rest, it's an option. (At least it was in our case.)
Do it!
Gale, I may have to unsubscribe from your blog until you're done reporting this trip. It makes me soooo jealous.
I love that area of France.
Over 50,000' of climbing in a week?!?!? And you're still smiling? Nice! Did you have any "rest (read: wine) time"? Would you recommend this type of tour to an intermediate cyclist?
