Getting Motivated!

Posted by JoeDecker Nov 6, 2007

People ask me all the time why I continue to run 100-Mile races and compete in Strongman competitions. I tell them, "to just challenge myself, to see what this human body is capable of doing." It's not for the glory or the ego or to say "look at me." I believe that the human body was meant to be challenged and tested and pushed. It was not meant to sit behind a desk all day punching a key board while grazing on fast food.

I know at times it can be difficult to motivate ourselves. And I know it is something that we all have inside but just need to find. I like to call it, "the fire inside." Think about this for a second. Is inactivity and unhealthy eating a way of life for you? Are you happy with your current fitness level? Would you like to make a healthy change? If the answer is yes, then do something about it.

Set a realistic goal. Make a serious promise with yourself to take back control of your life. It is your life and doesn't belong to Playstation, McDonalds or Lipitor. If you're still feeling sorry for yourself and need a little motivation, check out this video. You'll find no excuses here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4B-r8KJhlE Remember, "We're not here for a long time, just for a good time!"

As an UltraRunner, Strongman Competitor and Guinness World Record Holder, I don't believe in following fitness trends, I'd rather set them. I believe that we can be strong, that we can run long and absolutely can do ANYTHING that we set our minds too.
