When we went to Australia a few years ago we charted an over night sailing trip on the Great Barrier Reef. Before leaving TX we took diving lessons, etc. We moored beside a reef overnight. At night it was beautiful, fabulous. We had done two dives that day. The next morning, after breakfast the captain had planned to move to a different reef. As he and the first mate were undoing the anchor lines, the boat got swept up onto the reef. It got stuck. They couldn't get it loose. They were so goofy. I took a few pictures, oil was spilling into the water. It was a fiasco. A sister ship came by and tried to pull us off, but no luck. We had to get into a rubber zodiac with all of our luggage and go to the other ship. We had to to get back to Cairns that afternoon, so they put us on another ship. We never dove that day. When we got to town we called the newspaper and told them what happened. They interviewed us and we were on the front page the next day. The ship's owner was ticked off. We always refer to the ship as the Minnow and the mate as Gilligan. That's Thom's last name, isn't it?
Once a non-runner, I am now an ultrarunner and triathlete. Running has taken me to Antarctica, and past what I once thought were my limits. My races and training cover the good, bad, and ugly, but it's always an adventure- one that you can follow here.
How wonderful!
