A change of scenery is always exciting. It's very motivating and makes you want to explore. I grew up in Rancho Bernardo so I'm pretty familiar with the PQ area. Check out this site for some of the trails/canyons around you http://www.trails.com/city-trails.aspx?keyword=Rancho+Penasquitos&state=CA

And now you're not far from Poway, where it's beautiful to run as well. Enjoy!

I had a lousy day. I failed to hold my goal pace beyond 2 miles and dropped out after 4 miles, realizing I was overtrained. I took it easy for the next several days and just tested the waters of heavy exertion again with a challenging tempo run, which went well. I'm disappointed to have missed my chance to PR, but it would have been far worse to let myself fall into a death spiral of overtraining that ruined my peak race (Boston) as well. I think I'll be OK.

Matt

Matt,

I also have the 405 and ran into a similar problem. It seemed that about 60 minutes into most workouts, the "freeze ritual" would commence. Frustrated, and totally ticked, I would finish my workout without much of the information I had come to expect from my beloved 405. While at the Disney Expo this year, I spoke with one of the Garmin guys tending a booth and he gave me the solution--lock the bezel (depress the start and reset buttons simultaneously) once your workout is underway. Presto, I don't go through the "freeze ritual" any longer. Yes, it's still a bit inconvenient if you like to cycle through your training-data displays like an eighth-grader and a Facebook account, but it works. I just set the cycle time for the training menus to medium speed and just wait for the data to display. Hope this helps.
