One week down. Still alive!

I finished my first week of running. I now have 10 miles under my belt. Well, it's a start. The hardest thing for me hasn't been the stiff legs, or burning lungs. It has been the danger on the road. This is some video of the scariest parts of my route. The video really doesn't capture the reality of it. But it comes close enough.

The Killer Tree: Notice the tree with the gouge on it? I wonder how many cars have scraped that tree? Every time I run past it I pray, "Dear God, don't let that car pin me to this tree."

No shoulder, snowy hill left, car right: I started out taking some video of the scenary. it quickly turned into video of cars driving way too close for comfort. But it is interesting how drivers give you a little more space when they know they're being filmed.

I've thought about changing my route. But all the roads are like that here in New England. I'm originally from the midwest ....where there are long, straight roads with wide shoulders and few hills. Ahhhhh...I miss it.

I do like the snow, though. Of course it is much prettier when the sun is shining.

I agree that off-road running can be a great way to get away from the traffic, just be aware that snowmobiles can often be as bad (if not worse) than auto traffic.

Keep up the training!
