I see your point. I too am not a fan of HR monitors, but for a completely different reason. I don't like having something strapped around my middle while running. Uncomfortable.
I just used it today (150-165flat road, 175 hills) because I was curious how my heart rate compares to how I'm feeling. My runs have been pretty hard lately. Probably because I'm pushing too hard (anxious to see more progress, I guess). I just need to slow down and relax more.
It's been quite a winter. I'm glad I'm running this winter, though. It would be so much harder (mentally) to deal with a harsh winter if I was staying indoors 24/7.
Are you looking forward to the warmer weather? ...or sad to say good-bye to snow shoeing?
Definitely ready for winter to be over, but always sad when snowshoe season ends....
Everyones HR will be different and being sick will definitely change your rate (and the rate you should exercise at). I'm not a big proponent of HR monitors....I think you should really go with how you feel. HR monitors are just another step away from listening to your body. Having said that, if you choose to go by your HR here is an excellent calculator.
