Here's my coach, Dave Dunham:

So, Dave, do you map out these runs ahead of time?  If so, does it take very long?  How do you plan?  How do you avoid dangerous roads, dead ends, and unpassable trails?   How long do you drive to get to these places?

I'd like to freshen up my runs, but I'm wondering about the time commitment involved in planning and driving.

I love maps and spend a ton of time planning out where I want to go.  That is half of the fun for me.  There are so many options on where to run, it really depends on how much you want to put into it.  I would not try what I'm trying (to run in every town in Mass.)

There are some great places to run in Southern NH!  I'm guessing you've already been to Mine Falls, but if you haven't you'll get a chance when the track workouts starts.  That is a nice place to run.  There are also some rail trails near you and a network of trails in the Hollis area.

I can give you more info if you are interested.

Cheers,

dd

Yes. I'd love more info about local trails.  I tried to do a little internet research, but didn't get very far.

I did try to the rail trail near me.  But it wasn't very....um... welcoming.  The trail access is in a strange place.  Then ya gotta cross a river/creek on a plank.  Then I couldn't tell exactly where the trail went after that.  I gave up and went to the gym to run.  It's a comfort level thing, I guess.

I should probably try to access it from a different location.
