Posted by MegNH on Jun 2, 2008 6:35:10 PM

Here's Week 24: 16.5 miles

Mon: Off

Tues: 4 miles (Treadmill)

Wed: 6.5 miles (Track W/O, plus some)

Thurs: Off (this darn knee!)

Fri: Off

Sat: 5 miles

Sun: 1 mile (Strange, very strange. I got on the treadmill and couldn't make it happen...I walk/jogged 1 mile (I even tried going super slow) and then gave up and went home. I was too tired. Very strange that I couldn't push through it. This was a first.)

Goal for Week 25: I'm not sure. Coach, whatya think?

Mon: Off...still really tired.

Tues: ????

Wed: ????

Thurs: Race Day (It's an evening race.)

You dont want to take the next two days off completely, but you should definately cut waaaaay back from your normal routine.   I would go out and run a half mile really easy... than do 5-8 twenty second strides... and then warm down with a half mile really easy again.

You want to give your body some rest to truly realize all the gains you have been making... but you dont want to take it completely off as your body will loose that "snap" feel if you go into a completely lethargic mode.

Best of luck on Thursday night.   The race you have chosen is one of the best 5K's in the northeast.

I agree that you don't want to take Tues, Wed totally off.  Nice easy jogging, just enough to get loose.  Get plenty of sleep tonight and tomorrow!

Best of luck!

Ok. Sounds good.

I did two miles tonight.  It was all I had time for before it got dark.  But I did do a couple strides, just to see if my legs remember what my 5k pace felt like.  They remembered.    I think I'll jog easy 3 miles tomorrow.

Now I'm heading off to bed for a solid 9 hrs of sleep.  (Accompanied by a prayer to the parenting gods, that I won't get woken by a crying kid at 2am.)

(Manti - It was a pleasure to meet you tonight.  Good luck on your Tri!)
