Disappointed, but hopeful

Posted by SLauer00 on Dec 7, 2007 4:24:38 PM

Today I ate what was convenient with no thought of calories, fat grams, or anything other than fast. I feel like I let myself down, but its hard to change my eating habits. I knew, as I was ordering, that I should be eating healthier, but I wasn't able to stop myself. It really is pretty ridiculous, because as I was eating, I was thinking "I really shouldn't be eating this!" The sad thing is...I continued to eat every last french fry. Stupid!

I am getting more and more excited about having a structured eating and exercising plan. I know that is what I need. I was excited to get my first video message from Jenny. I really do believe that she will help me lose weight and get my butt in shape. I just need a little guidance. She is getting me started on a 5k walking program, which will increase my activity gradually without being overwhelming. I can't wait! Once I get started, I will be sure to let you know how I feel.

Check out my personal FitDay Journal to stay updated on my eating and exercising...for better or worse!

Hi Sara...

Fitday is really going to help you along with your weight loss for several reasons.  The first goal with eating healthier is to literally take an inventory of your food you eat every day.  It will help you better understand the size of portions and the amounts of fats in foods too.  It is important the first few weeks to measure and calculate the best you can everything you put in your mouth.  It is a little tedious yes, but eventually your favorite foods are in Fitday and you can just hit the button!

The old adage Rome wasn't built in a day applies here.  You aren't going to make all the changes you want in the first, day, first week or even the first few months.  You WILL however make small changes that will add up to huge lifestyle shifts in how you approach food, what you eventually have a taste for and eat.  This will take time.

Your mission this week is to mark in Fitday.com everything you eat every day without trying to change it all at once.  Begin to review the percentage of fat for the day, how many carbs and protein.  It is best to lean towards 25% fat, 50-55% carbs (good ones) and 20-25% lean proteins.  The nice thing about Fitday is it breaks it out for you so you can see at the end of the day.

It will also teach you portion sizing and allow you to begin to make better eating choices.  That all sounds easy and wonderful as I type but I understand how hard it is.   Eating healthy is like saving money.  Every little change you make adds up in more energy, lost weight and healthier food choices.  But it all takes time to change.

Again, this week is all about getting to know YOU and your eating habits.  Each week you will have ONE mini goal or lifestyle change to focus on.  It might be eating broccoli twice or not eating french fries.  Creating new habits takes time.  It typically takes a good 3 weeks of continuously focusing on that change to make it stick.  That is why I want you to focus on ONE change.  And a small one at that.

Be patient with yourself (and me:).  You are NOT on a wt. loss program, you are on a life changing program.  And that takes time to change, adapt and make it stick.

In terms of your exercise regimen, we will post it so everyone can see it and eventually you can follow it too!  Sara is walking 3 days this week for 30 minutes at a brisk pace and doing the Curves Circuit Workout on alternate days twice this week.  We are teaching Sara's body and mind to move most days of the week.  Eventually, as she progresses in her training program she will not know how she ever got by without exercising:)

Happy Trails,
