This post really hit home (as you can imagine). I enjoyed reading it very much. I know your kids have a great dad and will turn out to be wonderful people. I want to comment on a lot of the neat things you wrote, but I can't seem to get out of my mind that you're about 2 minutes faster than me at that distance. I need to get to work before the Reunion Triathlon in 20 months.

Again, something I really look forward to. I've coached basketball twice and really enjoyed it. But as a fan first and a competitor second, it's hard to make that transition to coaching, especially when you're dealing with the fragility of little kids. But I think I did a pretty good job, considering how poorly I deal with losing.

As I've gotten older I have found myself wanting to compete more...every chance I get, whether in team sports or individual achievements. Ironically enough, my knees have started to fail me. I hope, for my sake as well as my family's, that my days of competition aren't over. Great job, Steve.

Steve, I wish I had your gift of communicating feelings. I can see myself with these experiences in a few years when my boys get older. Derek's only 2 and he makes me so proud with his accomplishments, whether it's just saying a new word correctly or hitting a whiffle ball over the house. The only way I would know how to describe it is that I love him more than anything in the world.
