Join theLazarex "Team for Life" and help raise funds for an organization thatis dedicated to building a bridge to hope, dignity and life for endstage cancer patients and their families.
Every year, the Big Sur Marathon attracts about 4,500participants. Created in 1986, it has been chosen by Runner's Worldmagazine as one of the three best marathons in the world, as well asthe nation's best "destination" marathon. Runners not only drawinspiration from 26.2 miles of spectacular views of one of the mostbeautiful coastlines in the world, but also from the disciplinerequired to conquer the hills of Highway One on the way to the finishline. The marathon features food and drink at the start and finish andlive music along the course. There are also shuttle buses fortransportation back from the finish line. And a unique ceramicmedallion is available to every participant who finishes within theofficial time limit.
Lazarex Cancer Foundation is here to provide financial assistanceto defray the costs associated with patient participation in FDAclinical trials. It also helps patients best determine and utilizetheir clinical trial options and provides community education andoutreach services. Lazarex helps patients of all ages and walks of lifefacing all forms of cancer. It can provide resources to fill the gapbetween when cancer patients learn that there is no more hope and thatno more options are available, and when they are truly done with theirjourney in life. Every year some 15,000 Americans are diagnosed withcancer. But modern clinical trials are assuring that many forms ofcancer are no longer a death sentence. And Lazarex has itself had muchsuccess in giving scores of patients a much higher quality of life. TheBig Sur Marathon is only one of numerous events in which Lazarex teamshave participated throughout the United States to help the patients it serves.
Lazarex Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded in 2006 by DanaDornsife, who is also President of the organization. She became acancer advocate when her brother-in-law Mike was diagnosed withpancreatic cancer in 2003 as she searched for options that would buyMike and his family some additional time.Her dedicationenabled Mike to live long enough so that his youngest daughter wouldhave real memories of him, which she could keep throughout her life.
Entry fees can range from $135 to $165, depending upon how early onesigns up, but runners who join Lazarex’s "Team for Life" will havetheir bib paid for.
