Ironman Weekend

Posted by Darrell Clarke May 23, 2011

Wow!  What a weekend to be in The Woodlands.  Saturday the texas Ironman was held and it was a facinating exercise in pain management on the part of the participants.  After I was done with the swim meet I tottered over to watch real triathletes suffer for glory.  I was amazed at the dedication that these folks have just to be able to enter this grueling race.  It inspired me to go further on my Sunday morning beginner bicycle ride.

We kicked off at the Pinecroft Starbucks and paraded out along our normal route.  We only had three riders on the ride, but that makes for some faster than normal speeds.  It also make us a little more flexible in where we go.  Today we added in an additional 8 miles to check out some new routes.  They were nice and smooth with some rises that make you feel the pedals and force you to exert just a bit more than you normally would.  After we took a break and headed back to the cars, we decided to have a side trip to see the remnants of the Ironman setup.  I was very surprised to see that most everything was back to normal and the lane markers as well as the barricades were down and packed away, ready for the next location.  At least I have my memories of the action on Saturday's race.

Ciao,

Darrell
