Run for a Cause

Gordon Boisvert, Consulting Manager spent a little over a week in Cuba experiencing the people and climbing.  We stayed in Vinales Valley (UNESCO World Heritage site).  Stayed with locals in what is called a Casa Particular – basically lived with a couple different families.  The climbing was superb, lots of exciting multi pitch routes – climbed 6 of the 7 days we were there.  The food (all home cooked) was great – 3 nights of lobster.  The weather was hot, the Cervaza was cold – we tried some hand rolled cigars.  All in all a very fun trip.

Jen Cenedella and Blair Matthews, both from the Boulder office Business Solutions Team completed the Talons Challenge at Beaver Creek in Avon, CO this weekend.  Completing best steeps and bumps Beaver Creek has to offer. Over 24,000 vertical feet of Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond runs on Beaver Creek’s legendary World Cup Birds of Prey downhill course, Grouse Mountain, and in Larkspur Bowl. They both conquered all 13 runs and earned a spot on the Talons Wall-of-Fame!  Additionally, Blair added one extra Double Black Diamond run at the end of the day for good measure.

Whitney Montoya, Account Manager from the Boulder office, participated in the Little Rock, AR half-marathon yesterday. It was a great race to start off 2012.  Having IT band issues was a fear going into the race, but after hitting mile 9 and realizing I only had 4 more miles to go, I pushed through and finished a great race.  It was a first time visiting in Little Rock, and quite possibly a last, but it was a blast!  I'm already looking forward to Colorado half-marathon in May!

William Bassler, and his 10 year old son Kellen, finished Chelsea’s run on Saturday in San Diego. It was beautiful weather, a great cause, and everyone was very nice during the race. We ran into fellow Active employee Sharon Boyd as well! In other news; My big boys Gavin and Connor helped La Costa Canyon High School win the Division 2 Soccer Championship! – Connor did not play and refused the photo opp. LCC beat Hill Top High School 2-0. LCC girls won also. On to state!

Tyler Jump, Account Executive - Camps, and Janean Nation, Account Manager - Communities, had a very active weekend!  Saturday morning we joined the crowd at Finish Chelsea's Run in Balboa Park.  This is the second year for the event, and it was great to see how it's already grown.  Sunday saw 18 holes of golf at Reidy Creek in Escondido.  It was our first time on the links in almost a year, and we could tell!  Thankfully, it was a beautiful day so we didn't mind the extra time out on the course.  Highlight of the day was Janean's first birdie with a  10 yard chip in!

Eric Marenburg, Associate PM – Global Tech Ops, fell out of an airplane on Saturday.  Fortunately, there was another guy strapped to his back with a parachute. The highlight was watching the sunset over the ocean at mid-canopy ride at 6000 ft.  It was amazing!

Joanne Ingram, Account Executive for Business Solutions, ran the Intown 10K this Sunday – her first 10K.  I trained using the Active 10K Beginner Training Program.  Testimonial that it works!!  It was a perfect day, nice trek through the Atlanta in town neighborhoods and made the post-race brunch taste even better.

Janay Jespersen, HR Generalist in Draper Utah, spent Saturday snowshoeing with her husband and puppy near Park City, UT. We had a great time and even came across some deer and a white bunny running in the snow.

Micah Kropp (Product Marketing Manager, Associate – San Diego) played for the SD Old Aztecs in a rugby match vs. the Ventura Rugby Club on Saturday. Both teams were 5-0 heading into the game so first place in the SoCal Rugby Union was on the line. We prevailed 43-25 in a fast paced game with a lot of exciting plays. Kudos to fellow Active peeps Geoff Skow, Aaron and Cara Pelander for cheering loudly from the sideline. At the after-match social I was awarded “Man of the Match” and got to celebrate the victory in style with the Man of the Match coat and mug.
