What's your ACTIVE?

208 Posts tagged with the weekend-warriors tag

ANDY REILLY, Account Exec Multi-Sport reports on Spartan race 2012 in Southern California.  Arch Fuston at the command commuted several active employees up to the Super Spartan race on Sunday.

We conquered 8 miles and 15+ obstacles as we climbed the mountains at Vail Lake. Best part is that all active faithful finished strong.  After the race the crew replenished their loss of calories at IN n OUT burger  with some well deserved Double doubles, boom! Seen in photo: Arch Fuston, Mark Warble, Brian Graham, Frank Brown, Jen White, Dennis Triplett, Aaron Waldman, Andy Reilly. Photo 2: Arch’s Leg!

TONY CERVANTES also completed the So-Cal Spartan Race this Sunday at Vail Lake in Temecula, CA.  I really didn't have any idea what I was getting myself into.  For some reason, I had it in my mind that this was going to be a trail run with a couple obstacles.  Some of the hills on the trail were near vertical and I could have used a little more muscle, or at least mass, for some of the obstacles.  There was a bucket on a rope with a pulley that you had to hoist into the air.  The bucket weighed about the same as my scrawny frame and managed to hoist me into the air on its way back down much to the amusement of the racers around me.  After my race, I managed to make it back to the finish line for a bit with my cowbell to cheer on the ActiveX group as the negotiated their last few obstacles.

AARON WALDMAN, Software Developer in San Diego - Took part in my first Super Spartan event with 7 other Active Spartans ( Arch Fuston, Andy Reily, Jenn White, Mark Warbel, Dennis Triplett, Frank Brown, Brian Graham).  The course was at Lake Vail in Temecula.  The trail runs took us up and over the hills many times and along the way there were obstacles to conquer.  The course was around 9 miles and was quite challenging.  I still think the hardest obstacle was nature's own steep hill climbs, but the mud, fire, ropes, barb wire, walls, javelin toss, cargo nets, rock pull, monkey bars, sand buckets, and more made for an exciting adventure.  This is SPARTA!

DANI OLIVER, Online Account Mgr. had a great time running the Strasburg 5K this weekend! Did not place. Did not PR. BUT thanks to RacePlace Magazine and Rose Reilly with the free entries for us. It inspired me to sign up and really kick off my weekend right! Huge thank you!!!

STUART OLDHAM, Account Executive Sports and Endurance London office went Snowboarding in Val D'Isere in the French Alps with friends. Great snow and conditions made for lots of fun. I got pretty competitive with my Girlfriend and raced her down the world cup run 'Le Face' every day, gradually getting faster & faster until on the last day I headed down the steepest section a bit too fast, doing most of it on my bum - allowing her to sneak past! Here's a photo of me above Tignes Le Lac.

JOE SCHUM, Sales Manager - Business Solutions, ran the Tartan Trot 10K in Dunwoody, GA on Saturday, 1/28.  Broke 50 minutes on a very hilly course and spent the rest of the weekend in an iron lung recovering.  No pictures available of me or the iron lung.

PATTI ROSENTHAL, Industry Manager, Cycling went snowcat skiing in Fernie British Columbia at Island Lakes Cat Skiing with a few friends from Durango.  It was a four-day tour where the snowcat takes you out each day where you get about 8-10 fresh powder runs each day.  We were blessed by the snow gods & had over a foot of powder the first day & had snow every day thereafter.  The trip included lodging & incredible gourmet meals.  Unbelievable trip - would highly recommend Island Lakes Catskiing!

MEGHAN SWIRSKI, Client Support Supervisor.  Keeping true to my New Year resolution, I ran my first race of 2012, the 'fitness for vitality' 5k, on Sunday.  Although it was a wet run, the view along the Seward Park trail was amazing!  Looking forward to next month's run already.  Later on Sunday I shot a gun for the first time at a local shooting range, what fun!  I'll definitely be back.

MATTHEW MCMASTER, Technical Account Manager. My grandparents had to have 3 large oak trees removed from around their house because they were leaning over their house.  I spent the weekend hauling wood to my house and then splitting the logs with an axe and a maul.  It was such a wonderful weekend in Texas.  The temp was in the high 60's and the sun was shining.  Some of the logs were 3 feet across and would produce 15 fireplace sized logs.  Needless to say my back, legs, arms, chest, and even my neck is sore.  But what a great way to get sore!

NOAH SKOCILICH spent the Chinese New Year Holiday exploring the Chinese countryside in rural Henan Province. Henan borders Shaanxi (where the Xi'an office is) to the East, and is the most densely populated,  and essentially poorest province in China. Imagine roughly twice the population of California in a area the size of Oregon or Washington. There is a lot that is charming still about the land and the people, but there is also a very visible and frightening degradation of the natural environment that to me speaks to the urgency of Active Network's general mission of health and well-being.

BEN WEINBAUM, AE Youth & Education. Started off with a 56 mile coast ride (Carmel Valley to Camp Pendleton) with Evan Bricker, Alan Deicas and friends.  Sunday was my first La Jolla cove swim since October. Water is still a little chilly but felt great. Finally capped off the weekend with hike with my mom at Cowles Mountain. Clear skies allowed for great panoramic views all the way out to the Coronado’s and San Clemente Island. What an amazing weekend in San Diego!

ERICA DAVIS, Business Analyst reports her, Matt Roland and Greg Roland were able to put their ActiveX training to work and hit the slopes in Big Bear, CA this weekend.

MICHELLE NATION & MEGAN DUVALL, San Diego office went boarding at Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah.  The weather and conditions were fantastic and we had a lot of laughs.  Hoping for snow in the Sierras!

WILLIAM BASSLER and son Kellen did the 5K at Lake Hodges Saturday in San Diego. It was Kellen's first 5K! He's 10 years old. It was a beautiful day and we caught up with other Active folks there as well! My son was pretty frustrated he didn't get a medal (I don't know where he gets that from) I told him it was his first 5K, and he did great just finishing it! I did my first 5K at age 35. Now, thanks to the ActiveX running group, I got the number "6" in the front of my average pace for the first time! I told my son I didn't get a medal either, but I had fun and was very proud to have my son run with me!

WILLIAM.jpg

PAUL MCLURE, Account Manager did his first 5k for 2012 on the beautiful Saturday morning at San Diego State Univ campus, Stephen Strasburg with Tony Gwynn 5k was a nice quick run through the campus supporting Aztec baseball. I was able to meet with both Stephen and Tony before the event which was pretty cool. I even got a pic with my fellow Aztec Recreation Major - Tony Gywnn.

Concordia Chen, Business Analyst completed her first half marathon this weekend at the Tinkerbell Half Marathon at Disneyland! It was super fun running through the park and having the Disney characters cheer on the runners. My daughter also got in on the fun and ran the kids' race through California Adventure at her longest distance to date -- 200 meters!

VALERIE PRESTIDGE, Technical Account Manager reports on Sunday, Austin Braaten, Burt Repine, Jon Christopher embraced a beautiful San Diego day for a 50 mile bike ride.  The 4-pack cranked pedals up Del Dios and decided to reward their hard work on the way back to the coast, stopping at Stone Brewery in Escondido, Lost Abbey Brewery in San Marcos, riding through La Costa & taking the coast home from Carlsbad to make a final refuel stop at Pizza Port Solana Beach.  Not sure there is a better way to soak up the day!

Austin Braaten, Valerie Prestige, Jen White, Ashley Peters, Ryan Scanlon, Lindsey Mancuso, Brendan Egan, Clinton Van Allen, William Bassler, and Kellen Bassler (Kellen's first 5K!) got Active this weekend for the 1st of 3 trail runs in the San Diego Trail Run Series at the Lake Hodges 5K Trail Run!  Team represented & brought home medals ~ Austin & Valerie placing 2nd in their age groups,  Ashley placing 3rd in hers, and William placing 5th in his!

Running and Running this weekend

Posted by IMVoice Jan 23, 2012

LARS RONNING, Senior Regional Director (EMEA) / Head of EMEA.  I am meeting with potential partners in South Africa this week and managed to squeeze in a half Ironman race during the weekend: Ironman 70.3 South Africa. After only 5 years’ existence, it has become the world’s largest 70.3 race with more than 3,100 competitors! I have never before seen so many bikes in one place. I now know that cycling to work in London during the winter DOES work, since my 2.38 bike split (93K/58 miles, and 1,100m/3,300 feet of climbing) was the 5th fastest on the day, out of 220 competitors in my 45-49 age group. #58 out of the thousands, and only 15-20 mins slower than the fastest pros… Overall, with a finish time of 5.31 I came in as #19 in my age group – despite having forgotten my wetsuit so I had to drive back to my B&B and get it (and only just made the start), swimming to a wrong buoy so I had to swim back and lost 10 mins, and some bike issues plus a slow run on the hilly course. Nevertheless, a great start on the season and I am very pleased. A great day out, and I was proud to again show of the Active colors!

LARS YOUR BIKE CASE LOOKS MANY COLLEGE DORM ROOMS WITHOUT THE WHEELS! Mike

COURTNEY MUNSON, Client Application Specialist reporting in from Memphis!  On January 15th, a friend and I ran the Inaugural Louisiana Marathon.  It was beautiful day for a run with temps around 50 degrees and clear blue skies.  The course was fantastic (and flat!) running through LSU, around neighborhoods with gorgeous houses, along tree lined streets, and finishing downtown near the river.  It was marathon number 3 for me, and while it wasn't my best performance, it wasn't my worst either.  We had so much fun and I look forward to getting back to Baton Rouge to give this one another shot!

COURTNEY.jpg

BLAIR MATTHEWS from the Boulder office snowboarded at Vail Saturday and Sunday.  This was day 12 of the Mountain and by far the best snow weekend of the Season.  With 9 inches of fresh snow Sunday morning, it did prove to be an Epic day!  Additionally, we covered over 28,000 vertical feet for the weekend.

BLAIR.jpg

BRIAN ENGE, Schwaggle KING said it was great to be part of the ActiveX movement yesterday at the Carlsbad marathon.  There were lots of Active team members spreading the love of activity and encouraging each other.  It was a fast day and I was happy to go 1:23 in the half (5th in AG).   Another day to be very proud of the ActiveX movement!

ENGE.jpg

ROBERT MITCHELL, Senior Developer/Designer.  Nothing beats running through puddles as a kid!  Rob Mitchell (Web Designer - San Diego) and his wife ran the Legoland Kids 1 mile run with their sons, Luke and Zane.  It rained for the first time in months but that didn't keep hundreds of kids from running through Legoland and splashing their way to a finisher’s medal.

ROBERT1.jpgROBERT2.jpg

AUSTIN BRAATEN, MICHELLE NATIOBN (PR’d), ADRIANE FERGUSON, RYAN SCANLON (1st Half) all ran the Carlsbad Half Marathon on Sunday morning with awesome weather, great scenery, and many other Active participants and supportive spectators.

AUSTIN.jpg

Stacey Johnson, Senior Account Manager.  I finally beat my 21-year-old self’s half marathon time at the Carlsbad Half yesterday… I’ve been chasing that girl for too long!  I finished in 1:41 and got a PR by just about 5 seconds.  Now for a new goal to chase: a sub-1:40.

STACEY.JPG

CHRISTINE CROSBY, Sr. Account Executive for Faith, ran her first half marathon at the Carlsbad Half Marathon on Sunday.  It was a beautiful day and a beautiful course.  Everyone was so supportive!  Cheers to everyone that ran Carlsbad this weekend!

CHRISTINE1.jpgCHRISTINE2.jpg

AARON WALDMAN Software Developer in San Diego – On Saturday escaped the rain by heading out to Ocotillo Wells and got a good leg workout ATVing.  The dessert views where amazing. Then Sunday woke up early to root on my sister at the Carlsbad Half Marathon and ended up joining in for the last 9.5 miles. It was a fun experience maybe I’ll consider doing one.

AARON.JPG

CAROL HARRISON, (Information Security team – San Diego) completed her first half-marathon participating in the Carlsbad Marathon/Half-Marathon finishing under her goal time. Thanks to all the spectators with encouraging and hysterical signs.

CAROL.JPG

MIKE REILLY with his daughter ERIN who ran the Carlsbad 1/2 marathon in under 2 hours.  Her boyfriend Andrew ran his FIRST marathon in 3:08 for 3rd in his 30-34 age group and qualifed for the Boston marathon.

The Endurance Team (Mike Reilly, Tim McMahon, Mike Coleman, Steve Mazza, Abbey Schingler, Alicia Towery) and Michelle Sandquist (Austin Marathon - client) had an amazing time on Saturday witnessing greatness in the making at the Olympic Marathon Trials.  It was inspiring to see the creation of the 2012 USA team and all the runners cross the finish line.  The last picture is Shalane Flanagan coming in for first place in 2:25:38.  Then we are all working the Running USA conference here in Houston!

RUSSELL MILHAM covered 1075 miles with my bike today. Admittedly, it did 1050 of them in the belly of a 737.  Once again, I'm car free in SD. This time for the price of a standard checked bag.  After I got the thing reassembled, I even had transportation from the airport.

RUSSELL1.jpgRUSSELL2.jpg

Last Sunday, Colin Li(IT),Dylan Hai(IT), Eric Ma(MRI), Jason Qu(IT) and Wisely (former Activer) hiked 13km in the Qin mountain. The path to the peak was very precipitous, it took us around 4 hours to reach the top. We found the relic of a legend about emperor of Tang Dynasty, now only some stones and a broken cottage.  The downhill path was on the north side of the mountain and the snow is much thicker. Although it made our movement slower and tougher we still feel happy and even lucky. Because we haven’t seen snow in the downtown this winter.

COLIN1.jpgCOLIN2.jpgCOLIN3.jpg

Robert Mitchell, Senior Developer/Designer reports that Toby Guillette, Marc Villanueva and Rob Mitchell from the San Diego office did the Racers and Chasers mountain bike race this weekend at Balboa Park.  Toby knocked out 45+ miles in just under 4 hours in the marathon race.  Marc raced in the sport division and came in 9th in his age group.  Rob pulled out a second place finish in the single speed sport division.  Overall it was a great day of racing and we can't wait for the next race in a couple weeks.

JOSHUA1.jpg

JOSHUA2.JPG

Winnetta Byford, Technical Account Manager, Associate walked a ½ mile nature trail on Saturday with my granddaughter to see animatronic dinosaurs. It may not sound like much but that is the most continuous walking I have done since having a right knee replacement 4 months ago and a scope on the left knee just 5 weeks ago. It was a huge accomplishment for me!

MICHELE CREPEAU live from Tampa, FL, Michele Crepeau hosted an Active Group Run at the Girls on the Run International Summit.  Before sunrise we had over 30 runners join in for an hour long workout along the Bay.

MARC LEGLISE, Sr Software Engineer in San Diego, jumped out of a plane from 13,000 feet in the air. This was my 3rd tandem jump, getting ready to take the solo-jump classes for full certification.

SHERYL ROLAND (EVP, HR) and JOHN MARTINEZ (Director, Total Rewards) completed the Inaugural Petco 5K9 (walkrunwag.com) powered by Active.  Sheryl was joined by her husband Ross and pups Bug, Patch and Lucy.  John was joined by his wife Kristi and pups Jake and Rudy.   Automatic PRs for all five dogs – no big deal!!!  Over 700 dogs completed the event in Del Mar, CA complete with dog expo.  Special thanks to Arch Fuston for producing ActiveX bandannas for the event - available soon at the ActiveX gear store.

ED MULLEN Senior Account Executive in our golf and resorts division had a hole in one on Sunday at Polo Trace Golf Club in Florida.Ed reports – Second hole: Par 3 with an 8 iron from 133 yards.

He hit the ball a bit right the wind blew it back to the left.

When the ball landed on the green, it hit a downhill slope behind the pin and rolled back into the cup.

I would rather be lucky than good on the golf course – it was his 3rd hole in one!

RICK GREY traveled to Aspen, CO this past weekend for an annual snowboard trip with some long times friends.  Although we got no fresh snow during the trip, we had amazing time.  Our best day was Saturday when we rode Aspen Highlands.  In the true Active X spirit, we took the lifts as far up the mountain as possible than hiked a challenging 12, 392 feet to the summit of Highland Bowl for some of the most challenging, big-mountain terrain in North America. While the ride down was nothing short of spectacular, the foot hike to the the summit was equally as epic. Definitely not recommended for those afraid of heights.  While at the mountain I was able to experience some of the RTP technology, such as RFID lift tickets and the REALSKI iPhone app. I highly recommend anyone hitting the mountains this season download and try out the REALSKI app.  It was great to track our day with the app, and find lift names, runs and areas such as terrain parks.

KRISTIN CARROLL reports this is a delayed entry, but I wanted to congratulate Megan Stillerman on the end of her 3 year term leading Girls on the Run San Diego! And, thanks to Jessica Brusted and Valerie Prestige for their service to GOTR year! Here I am pre-race with my girls and my Girls on the Run buddy, Maria and her friend Jocelyn. It was her 1st 5k and Maria was a speed demon. There were over 300 girls there... It was awesome. Amazing work Megan!

Happy New Year Workouts

Posted by IMVoice Jan 9, 2012

JANEAN NATION, Account Manager - Communities, started the year of with the Resolution Run 5k on Sunday in Mission Bay.  It was a nice easy course, until you got almost back to the finish line and couldn't see it for the fog!  Sandy Feet Events did a great job with the volunteers, as many of them were given thunder sticks and cheered all participants across the finish line.  Can't wait for more to make it to my goal of a race every month!

MATTHEW HENRY (Bothell, WA) ran his third Goofy Race and A Half Challenge in Disney World over the weekend.  It was all the fun you'd expect out of a Disney event, with costumes, ears and characters all over the course.  The best costume for the half marathon had to be Tarzan and the full marathon had to be the Sebastian costume complete with fake arms.  The best part about running 39.3 miles, though, has to be the retox procedure: One Ghirardelli ice cream sundae!

MATTHEW1.JPGMATTHEW2.JPG

Laurie Pani, Marketing Manager and John Coyne took advantage of a recent Schwaggle deal and ran the Resolution 15K Run yesterday on Mission Bay.  John (1:10) beat Laurie (1:14) by 4 minutes both at the race and again at The Tractor Room post-race, breakfast-eating.  Great to see so many other Active people out running and cheering (thanks Evan!) along the course.

LAURIE.jpg

MIKE REILLY this weekend rode with the San Diego Team in Training group all doing Ironman New Zealand in March.  They are 25 strong and we did a great 70 mile ride with 6800 ft of climbing on a perfect weather riding day.  Our CEO DAVE ALBERGA was on a ride with John Duke from Ironman Saturday and he says they had a Lance Armstrong sighting riding his bike here in San Diego.

IMNZ2.jpg

Tami Hestand, CS Supervisor.  Hope that your holidays were amazing.  I spent New Years in the Great Smoky Mountains.  Hiking and Rock Walking!   The Hiking Trail was in the Smoky Mountains, Laurell Falls Hiking Trail, about a 1 1/2 hour trail.  And the Rock Walking was also in the Smoky Mountains, Little Pigeon River.  This was an experience and first time attempt.  The object to start out somewhere on the river walking on the rocks, and staying out of that freezing and rushing river current.  By the way, there was lot's of snow on the river bank! So that was the extra encouragement I needed to stay dry!  It took almost 2 hours, but I did it and stayed dry, which is more than I can say for my "more experienced" friend!  Ha...Good Times!!!

TAMELA1.JPGTAMELA2.JPG

Cailin Lynam, Account Coordinator ran the Resolution Run 15k San Diego this weekend in 64:22, 7th female overall & 2nd in age group. Great to see a bunch of Active people doing the race as well!

HEATHER LEVINE (Project Coordinator,Sacramento):  Sunday I did the Fleet Feet Free Holiday Classic 5K. It was a free race with donation of an unwrapped toy to the Salvation Army.  It was very cold (Hey, I’m from California, I get cold easily), but the race was a blast and everyone was in such a good mood.  The Salvation Army provided us with donuts and hot cocoa afterwards.  Here’s a picture of me and my friends before the race when we kept complaining about how we couldn’t feel our hands (I am on the left).

HEATHER.jpg

RUSSELL MILHAM did Saturday'sdawn along the Sammamish river near Seattle; halfway through a 25 mile ride. At 27 degrees, the air was so dense with oxygen it was like having a turbocharger. It felt like, if I could have stopped the rest of the world's clocks so I didn't have to be anywhere, I could have gone on forever without getting winded or tired.

Last weekend, JIMMIE JIANG (BA) and COLIN LI (IT) of XI’an office climbed to the 3rd high summit of Qin mountain. We planned to see the red lunar eclipse Sunday night on the top, but the shuttle bus was late so we have to put up the tent in the woods on the ridge left about 2 hours to reach the peak.  It was a bit cold after sunset and very challenging for us to get out the warm sleeping bag, yes, we missed the fantastic eclipse of cause. But we still think it was an great camping.

Two reports from MICHELLE NATION (Product Manager, San Diego) and JANEAN NATION (Account Manager, San Diego) did the Vegas Rock n Roll Half Marathon last weekend with our sister Kristie, our mom, and some dear friends + approximately 44,000 other runners.  It was Janean’s first half marathon in over three years and everyone’s first time running the Strip at Night.    What an experience!   This weekend I had the opportunity to do my second tandem skydive in Perris, CA.  Thanks to special permission from the school, one of my best friends was allowed to join me on the jump.  (She’s  a top competitive skydiver with instructor certification and thousands of jumps.)  Having her dock onto us while we were flying at 9,000 ft above the ground made the exhilarating and humbling experience even MORE fun.  WOW.  Life is SOOOO good!

Memphis, Marathons & More

Posted by IMVoice Dec 5, 2011

COURTNEY MUNSON, Professional Services Memphis reports this is the first ever Memphis edition of WW!   WELCOME TO WW COURTNEY AND MEMPHIS!

SCOTT WALKER (Sales) and COURTNEY completed the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon on Saturday in Downtown Memphis.   The beautiful blue skies and nearly perfect temperatures helped Scott, who trained with his wife, Anne, to a finish well under his goal time.  Besides running down world famous Beale Street, participants have the privilege of running through the St. Jude campus where they were cheered on by patients, doctors, nurses, staff and families.  It’s hard not to get emotional as runners are reminded that this race truly is about the kids who are facing a battle for their lives, and not just a couple hours.  The over four million dollars raised from the event will help to ensure that many more kids are able to win that battle.

COURTNEY1.jpg

COURTNEY2.jpg

BRANDON KRAUSKA (DEVELOPER), CHRIS RISEN (IMPLEMENTATION MANGER), MARK LINDSLEY (BUSINESS ANALYST), and CAIRO LINDSLEY (Mark’s son) braved the elements at the Dallas White Rock Marathon.  The weather was a bit severe for us Texans.  Temps were in the high 30s/low 40s, windy, and non-stop rain.  Brandon completed his FIRST marathon.  Mark completed his 6th marathon.  Chris PR’ed his 5th marathon!  Cairo completed his 2nd half marathon at the age of 15.  Super proud of the Active Faith – Irving office!

WILLIAM BASSLER did the HITS Triathlon in Palm Springs at Lake Cahuilla Saturday. It was a beach start - with close to 300 people doing the Sprint. The water was cold, but the weather was nice.

William finished 30th overall, and got an award for his age group. “My Active gear is covered up because I was pretty cold by then… My feet were still numb during the run, but I had fun!”

JOEL WERDELL and my wife and I received a call last Saturday afternoon from friends of ours who were not going to be able to use their bibs for the Seattle Half Marathon on Sunday 11/27.  Yes, only 1 day notice.   I was super excited for my wife because she had just ran her first half marathon 3 weeks earlier (trail run) and I knew she could shave off some serious time.  Myself on the other hand, out of shape and armed with only a few ultimate Frisbee games and some basketball the week before, I thought “what the heck”  I was just pumped to be able to  run my first half-marathon with my wife, Amanda.  So with some last minute trips to REI for much needed running snacks, a new Garmin GPS watch and some smart-wool compression socks we were set.  My sister graciously offered to watch our 2 kids (Bennett 2, and Lochlan 7 months) so we were up at 5am on Sunday to drop the kids off and head into a still very dark Seattle.  As we gathered with several thousand people on that cold and cloudy morning we were all smiles.  It didn't matter that we had not trained as much as we would have liked to, or that it was starting to rain, we were doing this together.  We were able to run about the first 5 miles at a nice pace, but unfortunately my wife's stomach started to bother her.  She insisted that I go ahead and try to break 2 hours.  I was definitely feeling it and I don’t recommend running on barefoot shoes without a longer ramp up period, but had a good final couple miles and came in with a time of 1:55.  I wanted to run with Amanda through the finish line so I walked/ran back up the course hoping to find her.  She was looking good, fighting a nasty stomach ache but running with all she had.  We ran the last 2 1/2 miles together to the finish and her time was 2:19.  I am always encouraged by the strength of my wife as she later told me that she lost her breakfast between mile 6-7 and still managed to keep pushing forward.  The finish line was a wonderful sight and it was great to cross the line with her.

ERIC MA (Product Marketing Lead, China) - I'm a marathoner! Just finished my first full marathon race at 2011 Shanghai International Marathon last Sunday, at the last marathon of the year of 2011 in China within 430 below my goal. I was so excited, there's no painful period during the run, the last 10K was very hard, but nothing could beat a winning heart, I made it!  So enjoyed the applauses and cameras at the finishing line. Thank you all my friends for the wishes, Those are my motivation for the last few miles. 2011 is really a big year to me, from 5K to 10K, from 10K to half marathon, then finally to the full marathon, nothing could stop me moving forward!  Actually I spent almost the whole week in Shanghai, 3 days spent at the Shanghai Marathon Expo, partnered PaoBuKong with a health running club to show on a booth in the Expo, met some users, know a lot famous Chinese marathoners, it’s like a running carnival. Particularly I had conversations with couple of Chinese triathletes, and it all started from Active.com, they’re jealous of me working at Active Network, and encourage me to make process to achieve an Ironman dream! [I know that would be sure one day!] And another thing is they keep mentioning about the local business in China for Active, I love those suggestions to PaoBuKong and some fresh ideas, and can’t wait to share all my feelings and findings to my team now.

Still sore, but very happy. Wait, am I the first one to show Active.com, Active Network, ActiveX logos to a marathon race finishing line in China?

Gobble Gobble and Ironman

Posted by IMVoice Nov 28, 2011

MICHELLE NATION did it again, she is an IRONMAN.  Michelle completed Ironman Cozumel in Mexico yesterday.  She had an incredible time with a 2.4 mile Swim in 1:12, Cycle of 112 miles in 6:17 and 26.2 mile run in 5:13, her total time was 12:52.  Great job Michelle “YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!”  Mike

CLIFF JURGENS, Account Executive: Communities, pheasant hunting in drought ridden Southwest Kansas, with his 1 year-old dog Wiley and his first birds. Here is a hunting photo for you from Kansas ( Kansas is a client of ours for Hunting and Fishing licenses).

RYAN WOOD, online editor in the San Diego office, ran the Dana Point Turkey Trot on Thursday morning. The rain stayed away from the Orange County coast and I was able to complete the 10K course in 54:17. It was fun to celebrate Thanksgiving with 12,000 other runners in a beautiful town!

DAMIAN STAMM, Product Manager, Associate ran the Turkey Trot Philly on Thanksgiving Day, an advertised 5 mile race, along with my sister, brother-in-law, and his sister.  I entered with standard expectations and I beat my target time by a whopping three seconds....which isn't too bad since I hadn't been running too much since triathlon season ended and the course was .12 longer than 5 miles.  We ended up having an unseasonably nice weekend in the Philly area with the highs in the mid-60's, allowing also for a short but nice 25 mile bike ride over the weekend at the Schulkyll River bike trail.

DAVE ALBERGA with daughter KATE did some holiday ice skating this weekend.  Yes there are ice rinks in San Diego but obviously indoors.

DAVE.jpg

RICK GREY and wife Carly, plus dog Bentley and "Baby Gray" on-the-way, capped off a great Thanksgiving weekend with a Sunday hike up Mt. Woodson. Bentley needed a lift there on the last quarter mile, but he got his second wind and killed it out there!

RICK1.jpgRICK2.jpg

TYLER JUMP (Account Manager - Camps) and JANEAN NATION (Account Manager - communities) spent the week of Thanksgiving in Sacramento and participated in the 10k Turkey Trot to feed the hungry on the campus of CSU Sac.  The rain lasted just long enough to douse everyone during the run and then clear up with just .1 miles to go.  Then, back in San Diego, we were lucky enough to witness the devastating loss to the Broncos.  However, the weather was absolutely picture perfect San Diego 75 degrees and the seats were to die for!

TYLER1.jpg

ROBYN WIEN, Sales and Marketing Operations Analyst.  Attached is a photo from the annual Bedford Turkey Trot in Bedford NY. Robyn Wien and her brother Ryan Wien (Technical Specialist) both killed it this year in beating their times. It felt good to run off all that turkey and Thanksgiving dessert!

ROBYN.JPG

HEATHER LEVINE, Project Coordinator.  On Thanksgiving I did the Run to Feed the Hungry 5k.  It benefits the Sacramento Food Bank.  It is one of the biggest Thanksgiving Day runs in the country (this year we had 28,000 participants).  It was great fun, despite the rain.  Here is a picture of me and my fiancé before the run.

HEATHER.JPG

JOE SCHUM, Sales Manager - Enterprise Sales - Events answers the question "Why do I race?" Sunday at the Palmer Ranch PAL Half Marathon near Venice, FL.  Its about working off the nonstop holiday eating and the golden bling at the finish line.  Thanks for clearing that up for us Joe!

JOE.jpg

STEPHEN BRANSTETTER, General Manager of Youth and Education, took to the streets for the Seattle Turkey Trot with his wife JENN to raise money for a local food bank. The highlight of the day was news that the event had raised $35k, up from only $20k the year before. Stephen finished in an unofficial time of 18:55 (no timing chips).

STEPHEN.jpg

The two sons of ROBERT MITCHELL (Web Designer) ran the annual Turkey Trot in Oceanside California.  Both boys couldn’t wait to show off their “bling” after Luke ran the mile and Zane did the quarter mile run.  Next is the Legoland mile and then Luke’s first Ironkids next spring.ROBERT1.jpgROBERT2.jpg

KAREN HARDY, Marketing Manager, CHRISTINE CROSBY, Account Executive, and BRYAN CROSBY, Software Engineer, celebrated Thanksgiving Day by participating in Father Joe's Thanksgiving 5K in Balboa Park.  We had to dodge strollers, dogs, dog leashes, and kids to get to the finish line.  We did it and had a blast!  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

KAREN.JPG

William Bassler and his son Kellen (age 10) continued their Turkey Trot Tradition for the 5th year in a row in Oceanside. It’s a beautiful course along the Ocean. About 5,000 people did the 5K, and 1200 people did the 5 mile. William did the 5 mile in 35:29 and Kellen almost did his mile under 9 minutes, but he ran without stopping this year, and we were both happy to get out there Thursday morning!

WILLIAM1.jpgWILLIAM2.jpg

Great thanksgiving weekend for the Technical Account Management group in San Diego.  Started turkey day out right at the Father Joe’s 5K Turkey Trot.  Alicia Towery, Ryan Drew, Jennifer Carroll and Mike Dobransky from Active, not only ran the race, but also won the award for coolest team socks!  Very thankful to be part of a great company that encourages healthy living!

MIKE.jpg

PAUL MCLURE, Account Manager Educate:  We went on our annual family camping trip after Thanksgiving.  This year’s destination Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Once we arrived this year my mother –in- law set up with t-shirts that read Now Is Great for the family portrait.  We also saw a bighorn sheep from far and got just a little too close to the rattle snake in the picture – good thing no one was hurt and it turned out to be another great holiday weekend.

PAUL1.jpgPAUL2.jpg

JEN ROMINE, Account Manager – Endurance, ran the Almaden Valley Turkey Trot 10k up in the San Jose area on Thanksgiving.  Not too many bells and whistles at this race (no t-shirt, chip timing, or even water at the finish) but with a $10 entry fee you can’t beat the price and it was a great course running on trails near the creek.  I finished in 54:11 for a new PR and after the event I was able to introduce myself to the Race Director, a new Active.com client.

AARON WALDMAN, Software Engineer San Diego,  Got the whole family active for the Oceanside Turkey Trot 5k.  It was perfect weather and awesome to my Dad, Sister, Brother-in-law and their 3 kids complete the 5k.  Even got my own PR  27:45 that’s 6 minutes faster than my last year’s turkey trot, which I am sure is directly related to working and being inspired by all the people at Active!

AARON1.JPGAARON2.JPG

MICAH KROPP  (Product Marketing Manager, Associate) participated in the Father Joe’s Thanksgiving Day 5K with my out-of-town family, my wife Julie, and our bulldog, Sarge. It was a fun event for a great cause – feeding the homeless in San Diego. The surprising highlight of the event was that Sarge actually made it the whole way. Plus he even motivated an out of shape bulldog to jump out of his wagon and run to the finish line alongside Sarge. Sounds like an ActiveX ambassador to me!

TIM WOOD, Sr. Manager, Software Quality Assurance, San Diego office.  I competed in the San Diego Duathlon on Fiesta Island this Sunday, it was my third duathlon this year and third of my lifetime. The weather turned out to be great and aside from some slipping and sliding on the bike course, I got through it well, besting my minutes per mile times on both running legs as well as the bike leg. I'm officially hooked!

TIM1.jpgTIM2.jpg

EMILY JOLLER AND MARGARET PATRICK competed in the IronGirl 10K last Sunday in Del Mar, CA.  As always it was a great event and fun to be surrounded by so many driven females.  Although it was a cool morning it didn't slow Emily down.  She was the 3rd fastest 10K finisher!!!

MICHELE CREPEAU reports great fall marathon weekends back to back with Marine Corps Marathon and then the NYC Marathon.  For MCM, Valerie Prestidge, Mike Coleman, Tim McMahon and Michele Crepeau all braved the weekend snow storm on Saturday which thankfully cleared out for Marathon Sunday for MCM.  Valerie, Tim and Michele ran the MCM 10K which started at the National Mall and ends at Arlington Cemetery at the marathon finish line.  NYC Marathon weekend kicked off with NYC office/ client happy hour and then the Runner’s World Party followed by a beautiful fall marathon weekend cheering on our charity teams.  Mike Coleman and Michele Crepeau jumped in to volunteer at mile 17 passing out pretzels and bananas to the runners.  We cheered as part of the MMRF charity team.

RUSS MILHAM, Bothell, WA office reports his wife and Couch-to-5Ker, Mara Mulcahy, ran her first 5K this weekend with three of her friends as “Team Magnum PIneaple” in the Seattle Pineapple Classic.

Mara is second from left in the “clean” before picture and far right in the muddy after shot.

JAY OZIMINSKI, Facilities Representative II reports that 12 Nashville employees participated in the Tennessee Ragnar Relay on November 4-5, starting in downtown Chattanooga and ending in downtown Nashville. Team Active Outdoors finished the hilly 196.1 mile course in 32:00:56…sleep deprived, smelly, but very happy with their performance. Runners included Patti Hunt (Project Mgr), Gintare Naujokaite (DB Admin), Curt Jeppson (Information Security Engineer), Ron Toussant (Business Systems Analyst), Jim Harnage (Telecomm Engineer II), Jonathan Denson (Software Engineer), and Jay Oziminski (Facilities Rep II). Volunteers included Sandy Nornes (Software QA Engineer, Assoc. Mgr), Shelby Abernathy (Software QA Engineer), Sherry Oziminski (Senior Mgr, Software QA), Paul Norman (Software Engineer) and Nick Ritchie (Business Systems Analyst).

On October 29, ROB EREKSON ran the Hoover Dam Half Marathon at the beautiful Lake Mead National Recreation area and Hoover Dam. The race ran along the lake via the Historic Railroad Tunnels that once took supplies from Las Vegas and Boulder Highway to the construction project when the Hoover Dam was being built in the 30s. The trail gives stunning views of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Bypass Bridge, and you get to run through 5 HUGE tunnels. A tough course with about 1500 feet of ascent, including some nasty switchbacks. Despite the tough course, Rob PR'd his half marathon by 30 seconds for a 1:56:11 official finish time.

ROBERT1.JPGROBERT2.jpeg

On November 5, Rob and Elizabeth Norrbom  ran the S.A.F.E. House Run for Shelter 5K in historic downtown Henderson, NV. Proceeds from the 5K were donated to S.A.F.E. House, a shelter for domestically abused women. Elizabeth run/walked her way to her first 5K  finish ever and Rob was able to PR at 23:09, finishing 8th overall. Elizabeth's next 5K will be this coming weekend, November 20th at the Valley of Fire. Lastly, this past Saturday, November 12, Rob participated in the Moonlight  Madness 30K, a night-time trail run of single-track and access roads through Cottonwood Valley just outside of the southwest side of Las Vegas. With 2400 feet of ascent and a few difficult trails (including a hill affectionately dubbed "Satan's Escalator"), the course was challenging, but Rob was able to finish with a time of 4:11:18.

ELIZABETH.JPG

STEVE JANKE, Network Engineer ran my first RAGNAR Relay here in Tennessee two weeks ago. The race started in Chattanooga and ended in downtown Nashville. The team I had participated on, Van Hailin’ , came in 68th overall of 210 with a finish time of 28 hours and some change. We had original estimated about around a 30 hour finish time. Overall it was an awesome experience and I can’t wait for next year. I’ve never seen that many people carry some much enthusiastic energy for that long of a time period. It was to say the least, very motivating.

JOE SCHUM, Sales Manager, Enterprise Events, ran the Hill Country 15K Trail Race at Serenbe on Saturday.  The race was conducted on the miles of horse trails in the Serenbe community.  Post race featured music, beer and burritos.  They can keep the burrito.

ALAN DEICAS, International, spent a week traveling through Guatemala with a friend where he was able to hike volcanoes, tube down rivers, climb Mayan ruins, explore underground caves with only a candle, and experience the largest game of chicken for 30+ hours on Guatemalan roads in a van crammed with 13 other people. Magic Mountain has nothing on the thrills of riding in a car through Guatemala.

ALAN1.JPGALAN2.JPG

ALAN3.JPG

STEPHEN BRENSTETTER, GM of Youth & Education, got bruised, muddy and exhausted at an awesome event called the Pineapple Classic. You run a 5k while holding a pineapple and traversing through about 15 obstacles including monkey bars, small tubes to climb through, lots of mud, walls to climb over etc. I got third out of 900 dudes with a 21:48 time but lost all bragging rights with other friends doing the event due to a timing chip malfunction. Watch out for the first drink station – half-way through the guzzle you’ll realize the “sports drink” of choice is a fine Pale Ale.

Austin Braaten, Bryan Pavin, Jen Meanley, Valerie Prestidge & Active friend Tyler Sargent braved Seattle (Thanks Austin) type weather and hiked merrily along the hills of Elfin Forest, fueled by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTSA_sWGM44 . From the top the group snapped off a few photos and took in the great views of Lake Hodges and Stone Brewing Co. where the group later capped off a great afternoon.

BRYAN1.jpgBRYAN2.jpg

Stacey Johnson, Sr. Account Manager and a group of friends & family took the train from Solana Beach up to Santa Barbara this weekend to run (or just have fun/be the cheering squad at) the Santa Barbara Half Marathon.  We had perfect race weather – rained up until the start of the race, and then started sprinkling just after we finished.  What a beautiful course – cute little trails and bridges, rolling hills (and a cliff), and the last 2 miles on the coast with big white puffy clouds.  The wind and the cliff (they weren’t joking when they named that street Cliff Drive) made for some extra fun.  I finished in 1:48 – no PR or anything, but I’m not complaining with that course.  Some serious good eats and great shopping made the weekend in Santa Barbara even better.

STACY1.JPGSTACY2.JPG

MATTHEW HENRY (Bothell, WA) finished up his Sunday with the rare opportunity to play on the main ice at Comcast Arena.  The Sentinels played Mid-Ice Crisis … again.  And for whatever reason, the newest team in the league is attempting to build a reputation for being chippy and a little dirty.  The Sentinels, on the other hand, are building their reputation as the worst team at line changes.  The important thing is that when all was said and done, the giant scoreboard over our heads said Sentinels 5, Micrisis 1.  It was a fun game and great to play with all those seats around us.  Even if 98% of them were empty!

MATTHEW.JPG

JANEAN NATION (Associate Sales Manager, San Diego) and MICHELLE NATION (Product Manager, San Diego) ran the Irongirl 10k at Del Mar.  We loved seeing lots of mother-daughter teams and some familiar faces from Active at the expo and out on the course.  We'll definitely keep this tradition going next year!

MICHELLE.JPG

CHRISTINE CROSBY , Account Executive, and CONCORDIA CHEN, Business Analyst rode in the 2nd annual Bike the Coast.  We participated in the 50 mile bike ride traveling from the Oceanside Pier down the 101 to Sorrento Valley and back up.  It was a cold morning but soon warmed up.  It was a fun and fabulous ride!

CHRISTINE.jpg

Tom Keefe, Senior Manager Client Relations says Duck hunting in Minnesota was good this weekend!

TOM.jpg

DON CRAMER, Product Manager (ActiveGolf.com/Click4TeeTimes.com), participated in the Bike MS: Vegas Challenge this weekend.  As a newbie to road cycling it was a great couple of days of riding.  On Saturday the route began downtown at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and took us down the “Fabulous” Las Vegas strip.  The Sunday ride it was an out an back from downtown Las Vegas to Henderson and back.  For the two days I rode 70 miles and raised $250.00 for MS.  Looking forward to next year’s ride and going further!

JIM GARFIELD (M&M) It has been honor sharing my Weekend Warrior events and representing the Active Network in all my adventures.  I am sure I will see all you Active Weekend Warrior’s at events in the furture….  It is with a sense of extreme gratitude and heartfelt appreciation that I enter the ranks of “Active Alumni” in my last Weekend Warrior report.

I joined Herbalife CEO Michael Johnson, Business.com founder Jake Wienbaum and even retired SF Giant Barry Bonds  in this weekend’s Malibu Gran Fondo benefiting the Livestrong Foundation.  Over 7,000 feet of climbing in 55 miles was a real cooker and raised some serious dough for a great cause.  The event ended at a spectacular vineyard in the Malibu Mountains with camels, zebra’s and other exotic animals roaming around.  We'll miss em Jim! Mike

SHEKHAR WANKHEDE and co-workers BIDYA , PATRICIA, and HEMANT  from MD Clarksburg ran 5k on 29th Oct 2011. It was not good weather at all with unexpected snow. When we started at 8.30 AM it was already more than 5 inches snow on road. Hemant finished 3rd in his category and yes…  We all finished  5K too  Kudos J. Families were there to cheer the team.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QzxX60q_1M

NEIL BLOCK, AE San Diego ran the Napa Valley Half Marathon Trail Run.  Rushing streams, chirping birds, and the smell of fresh air is your background during the Napa Valley Half Marathon Trail Run! The challenging course was a lush single track trail within Boethe-Napa Valley State Park. The course was awesome, a bit challenging with climbing the hills, jumping the streams, and leaping over trees and rocks!

NEIL.jpg

HEATHER LEVINE, Project Coordinator on Sunday did the Merrell Down and Dirty Mud Run 5K (in Sacramento at Folsom Lake).  It was so much fun, but so challenging.  It was my first mud run, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  Some of the more challenging obstacles were the Ladder Wall, and the “Slippery Mountain.”  Also the first half was all uphill!  I actually thought crawling through the mud was a lot of fun.  Here are some before and after pictures of our group.  I am the second one from the right.

HEATHER.jpg

MIKE MACDONALD, Assoc Software Engineer SD participated in the Fearless Triathlon in Mission Bay.  My time of 1:27:03 was good enough for 10th in my age group.  Despite the cold weather and water, the tri was a blast and was perfect for spectators (thanks to the double format, e.g. 5 transitions/11 splits).

JOHN COYNE, Senior Online Marketing Specialist did the Fearless Triathlon in Mission Bay on Sunday. It was an interesting course being 2 mini-sprint triathlons back to back, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. The only bad part was I couldn’t feel my hands or feet for the first part of the race since it didn’t warm up till about half an hour into the race.

MICHAEL PRODOR – Cash and Revenue Reconciliation Projects Manager - participated in the Fall 2011 San Diego Mud Run on Sunday. It was 5K run with hills, obstacles, 4-foot walls with mud, tunnel crawls, slippery hill climbs, and about 40 mud pits. I had a great time and am still finding muddy reminders of the event on his person. Here he is with his new fitness convert and buddy Travis.

MICHAEL.jpg

BRIAN ENGE, VP Revenue Growth San Diego office, spent a beautiful Sunday morning competing in the Fearless Tri in Mission Bay.  “For me the event symbolized why our mission at Active is so powerful.  I was there trying to win my age group (which thankfully I did and was second overall), the guy next to me in transition found himself through sport this year and has lost 65lbs, on the next rack over a dad was pushing his very young but disabled kid through the course.  Add into the mix several other Active teammates racing and cheering and it was a great example of the power of sport and activity.”

BRIAN.jpg

CAILIN LYNAM, Account Coordinator finished the Los Angeles Rock & Roll ½ Marathon in 1:35 – a personal best! 29th woman overall and 2nd in age group. Thanks ActiveX running group for getting me back in shape!

MIKE REILLY did a little ride Saturday to one of the highest points in San Diego County Mt. Palomar Observatory at 5500 ft.  The 60 mile ride was over 6300 feet of climbing on a most beautiful 75 degree day!   Next time maybe some of the young hotshots in the SD office will tag along with the old man!  Thought I was all that until I rode up on a guy running up the entire 17 mile grade!  Slowed to talk with him and he was an ex Navy Seal just doing a little training.  So no matter how much of a Stud you think you are there is always someone to put you in your place.

PALOMAR3.jpgPalomar2.jpg

MATTHEW HENRY (Bothell, WA) ran his second marathon in three weeks, completing the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. on Sunday.  The weather for the race was a little less than ideal, starting off in the mid-30's but the course was quite spectacular, starting off just outside the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery before running through some really amazing (and hilly) neighborhoods before hitting running by Jefferson/Lincoln/Washington monuments, the Capitol building and the Smithsonian.  It was a little sentimental running 15 feet from his old office building at the old US Patent and Trademark Office.  He highly recommends this course for anyone who love lots of crowd support, being shamed by lots of Marines running past you with full packs, and lots of great sights. Special thanks to Valerie Prestidge for enabling his course check-in laziness by helping him find his bib number!

photo6.JPGphoto9.JPG

MeganDuvall and her friend Liz Marrone ran the LA Rock n Roll half marathon Sunday. The race was great and our costumes were quite a hit.

TAWN NGUYEN & MARY ELLISON participated in the Challenge Athlete Foundation 5K on Sunday morning in La Jolla, CA.  They had a great time and can’t wait until their next one!

MARY adds her comments. Thrive 5-k Walk – I started in the first wave but wasn’t there for long. It was a beautiful walk and very inspirational—anyone with children should bring them to see what the very young challenged athletes can do—absolutely amazing! I was one of the last to finish at 1 hr 20 minutes—but I still received a participation medal!

TAWN.JPG

BRIAN ENGE, San Diego and his family spent the morning cheering on athletes at the CAF race.  It was a day to be proud of the positive influence of sports and for being part of the Active team.

BRIAN.JPG

DENISE KENDRICK.  Many Active Network employees attended and participated in the CAF events on Sunday.  A small group from the accounting dept participated in the CAF Kaiser Thrive 5K Walk/Run.  Some of us walked, some ran but regardless of the method, we ALL finished!!  It was an amazing event for a great foundation.  I was proud to be a part of it.

DENISE.jpg

ALAN DEICAS, Operations Manager for International, San Diego, completed the 55 mile (1m Swim, 44m Bike, 10m run) Triathlon benefiting CAF, the Challenged Athletes Foundation. I am not sure what was more inspirational, the challenged athletes, seeing friends push new levels, being surrounded by over 30 co-workers or seeing the look on my nephew's face as they watched the entire thing. Either way, what an amazing day. If you are inspired, here is how you can help http://www.active.com/donate/AXCC_CAF/alanCAF

Team DJ Jaz – Dana Feldberg, Jason Broughton, and Lynn Jazmin relayed our way through a wonderful and inspirational day at the CAF San Diego Triathlon Challenge.  Jason killed the refreshing 1 mile swim.  Lynn took on 44 miles of hills and thrills, cycling along the La Jolla coast.  Dana enjoyed the 10 mile run with fellow Active Networker Lindsay Stocks and running buddy Liz Harrell.  It was a great day and we all appreciated being part of such an inspiring event with all the other Active peeps and athletes.  Big shout out to Active’s Aaron Waldman & Chris Gielow for capturing the day’s events on “film” and to Jessica Wexler for sharing her mad body-marking and sidewalk-chalking skillz!  It truly is the best day in triathlon!!

DANA.jpg

Active was well represented this weekend at the Challenged Athletes Foundation triathlon event in La Jolla Cove.  Millions of dollars were raised for this worthy cause.  Jim Garfield (M&M) joined by Mark Warble, Sarah Moosbrugger, Elaine Bergeron, Alan Deicas, Jessica Wexler, Michelle Nation, Jeremy Spitzberg, Mike Reade, Ben Weinbaum, Jen White, Jon Christopher, Alice Pirogovsky, Lynn Jazmin, and Dana Feldberg. It was truly an inspiring event for an inspiring cause.

JENNIFER.jpg

TOBY GUILLETTE, Social Media Expert, and TODD PREECE, Director of IT, ran the King of the Hill El Capitan Mountain Trail 1/2 Marathon this weekend in Southern California. The event featured 3000+ feet of climbing along some really nasty mountain trail and event organizers sprinkled "challenge stations" (aka do 10 burpies, 50 mountain climbers, etc) along the way. Both Toby and Todd finished together and completely collapsed at the end as neither of them left anything in the tank. It was so hard Toby has no recollection of anything in the last 2 miles and Todd is so sore he's considering a new pastime in competitive needlepoint.

KARENE WEICKERT and her husband have spent the past two weeks cruising the Californian coastline. They set sail from Los Angeles, enjoyed spectacular Santa Cruz island in the Northern Channel islands, then braved the 'Cape Horn of the Pacific' around Point Conception amid 14 foot swell plus 6 foot wind waves, then fell in love with Avila Beach, explored Monterey and finally sailed under the Golden Gate bridge to dock in Sausalito. An incredibly beautiful coastline, great weather plus whales, dolphins, and sea otters = heaven!

PATTI ROSENTHAL Industry cycling manager, reports that the 3rd Annual Halloween Costume Ride at Phil's World on Sunday.  30+ friends from Durango all in costume just having fun riding the single track at Phil's World in Cortez, CO.   There were some tralantula sightings (live ones) & we even had one gal dressed up as the "tralantula lady".  At the end had plenty of beer & munchies.  Then we had a timetrial (around 2-3 minutes long) which over 20 halloween riders partaked - catch was everyone had to ride a little stingray bike & in costume.  Super Fun!

Jane Marshall, Senior Technology Consultant spent last weekend camping five nights in the desert. Highlights were biking in Fruita, CO, hiking in Goblin Valley State Park, UT (pictured) and hiking Little Wild Horse Canyon (slot canyon) in Utah. Fun getaway with family and friends!

KELLY GIBSON joined the Active team @ the CAF event this weekend, running/walking her first 5K ever. It was so inspiring to see the differently-abled athletes out there and everyone who came together to support them.

HEATHER LEVINE (Project Coordinator, Sacramento):  Last weekend (Oct 16) I ran in the Humboldt Half Marathon on the Avenue of the Giants in Northern CA.  It was a beautiful race with great weather.  I ran my fastest half-marathon so I was happy.  Here are a few pictures – I’m the one in blue.  It was a small race (600 runners in the half) but very fun!

DINA RULLI and ROMY SMALLER completed the Challenged Athletes Foundation 5K at La Jolla Shores on Sunday. Such an awesome and inspiring day!

TIM MCMAHON, Strategic Account Manager.  This past weekend my family participated a local Falcon 5K, an Active event I stole from Sign Me Up.  This was the first race for my 8 year old son Charlie who had never run more than a mile, so I did not know what to expect.  He knocked it out of the park by running a 24:23 and finishing 4th in the 10 and under age group.  He must get is running genes from my wife who finished 22nd overall in 22:31 and was the 4th women.

STEPHANY CAVATONI (GM, Consumer Insight) and her family had an epic weekend - it started Friday where we cheered on her daughter, Stella, as she joined the Davis High School Cheerleaders for family night.  On Sunday, after many weeks of preparation, the 14th Annual Willett Elementary Fun Run was held - over 160 runners came out to raise money for the PTA, have some pre-Halloween fun and enjoy an active Sunday afternoon.  Stephany is proud to report that her kids took home a best costume prize as well.

MARC LEGLISE (Sr Software Engineer) did a leisurely 20 mile bike ride with friends, from Coronado to Imperial Beach and back. Beautiful scenery, great weather, and a real confidence booster ahead of Bike the Coast.

Here is the report from RUI ZHANG (China Class Team).  John Zhang (Software Engineer, Class), Shanner Kang (QA, Class), Andy Qin (QA Class), Jeffery Wu (Software Engineer, ActiveNet) and his wife, Billy Zhang (QA Automation, RA), and Rui Zhang (QA, Class) had a 80KM+ riding at Saturday to ChanBa river in the eastern outskirts of Xi’an. It is a very sunny day. We arrived at the World Horticultural Expo held in Xi’an now and saw the ChangAn tower across the river, then rode along the river. The sky is so blue, the air is fresh, the flowers bloom beautifully, and many people are taking wedding pictures.  We totally reveled in the beauty along way.

FRANCESCA COLENSO, Account Executive, EMEA reports a group of 5 from the London office, took part in the ‘Spartan Race’

http://www.spartanrace.com/london-obstacle-racing-spartan-sprint.html

Simply, Spartan Race is the world’s leading obstacle race series. It’s an event of pure primitive craziness that you’ll never forget! Spartan Race has:

Races all over the globe!

Different distances for different levels and styles or racing.

A unique culture and community of athletes striving together to overcome any and everything

We had a really diverse selection of people taking part in this event:

Adam Hedley Smith – the account manager for Spartan who have events in UK, CAD, and US.

Keith Williams - Senior Manager, Sales – EMEA – Sports

Richard Edwards - Senior Account Executive EMEA – Endurance

Fran Colenso – Account Executive EMEA – Events

Benoit Rosenkranz – Intern – Endurance

FRAN1.jpgFRAN2.jpg

KEITH WILLIAMS, Senior Manager, Sales.  Weekend was a tale of two halves, being clean and dirty, The first half was riding an end of season industry network road ride in association with Hotchillee, on the ride with me from Active was Adam Hedley-Smith (Account Manager), here is the route http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/53972778/. It was a great sunny 40miler that ended with a meal, pudding and a chat with Steven Roche, 1987 Tour De France Winner. The Dirty Half was participating in Spartan Race through Mud, Ice, Fire, Water, Barbed Wire (in another report in this edition) with Fran Colenso (our ActiveX champion), Adam Hedley-Smith, Richard Edwards, Benoit Rosenkranz.

MICHELE CREPEAU had crazy sailing day with friends on Saturday…28 knots and the mast broke on our sailboat right out front of the Statue of Liberty.  We took shield below and called in rescue to take us to New Jersey.  Beautiful, windy fall day out east leading up to the accident and learned a lot more about sailing skills!!!  Pics of the before, after, rescue and rescue of the mast and sails.

PATTI ROSENTHAL, Cycling Industry Manager, Durango, CO.  The best time to mtn bike in Durango, CO is in the Fall.  Temperatures are down a bit & the fall colors are going off right now.   Went to the Dry Fork/Lightner Creek trailhead & road up about 2 hrs up to High Point where the colors were peaking.  The "yellowbrick trails" were covered with yellow aspen leaves & as the wind blew the gold leaves were flying all around us.  The view was incredible up high & the ride back down was a hoot!  Happy Trails, Patti.

On Sunday, ERIC MA (Marketing Analyst) ran his first half marathon with CASH XU (Controller) at 2011 Beijing International Marathon, one of the top 4 marathon events in China, this year there’re 30,000+ participants coming from different cities and countries to the capital city of China to join this running festival, local people started talking about the race early last week, the race atmosphere could be clearly felt when just walking in the street, since the events banners hang everywhere in the streets or the ads printed on the buses. The race started from Tian’anmen Square, and finished at the Beijing Olympic Park. There’s also an Expo in the central area of the Olympic Park, with all the top running gears being exhibited and sold, and also industry information being shared.

This was his first 13.1 race, finished at 1:52:07, everything was in well control, no pain, or no dying feeling after the run. The weather was awesome except the wind. One of the most exciting part in the run was, a guy from Maryland followed his pace neck by neck, and shouted “Go Active! JiaYou Active.com!” at him after about 2 miles when he couldn’t catch up. His partner, Cash, who finished his first half marathon race within 3hrs, with his goal achieved, that's a great result since he didn’t train for weeks. Next year, they would get a team there for a charity challenge run. The way back from Beijing was really disgusting, they two ruefully stood on the train for almost 12 hours right after the run, and finally back to Xi’an early morning on Monday. But it definitely was a memorable day.

On Saturday Daniel Simmons, Brian Cullen, David Hurst, Deanna Muhlhan, David Hurst,

Lynelle Crawford and Onjuneek Crawford survived the Del Mar Mud Run.  It was a first for all of us and we all had a great time.  Can’t wait to do it again next year!

REBECCA ZENT, Strategic Account Manager reports.  Attached are group photos of our VTO day last Friday, October 14th. The Boulder, CO – RegOnline Account Management team used this VTO day as a team building experience to help Camp Wondervu with fall maintenance. The pictures showcase the various odd jobs our team completed. The team removed brush near the lake, relocated  canoes from the beach to storage, spackled new walls in the chapel, and added ice guards to the roofs of the cabins to prevent sheets of ice from falling on campers. The team shingling, Sarah Liberatore, Josh Pearlman, Whitney Montoya, and Rebecca Zent used this opportunity to compete and see who was the fastest at stapling the second round of shingles. The time to beat was 19 seconds. The winners were Josh and Sarah who tied at 19 seconds. Rebecca came to a close second at 19.1 seconds and Whitney’s time was 21 seconds.   It was a great experience and we hope we can return in the spring to work on some spring cleaning projects and stay over to enjoy the mountain scenery.  Thank you Active Management for allowing employees to get paid to volunteer and help a local organization! It was a blast and the perfect day!

AUSTIN BRAATEN, Camps AE in Bothell, ran the Nike woman's half marathon with several friends through downtown San Francisco this weekend. It was the largest woman's running race in the world with 22,000 participants that were greeted with firemen in tuxes handing out Tiffany's necklaces at the finish.

JOE SCHUM, Sales Manager – Events and a few friends playing doctor traversed the North Georgia mountains for the 200 mile 2011 Southern Odyssey Relay.  It was a great time, challenging and in the end garnered a 2nd Place Mixed Masters in 30:14:00!  Not a single patient or cocktail was lost during the entire event.JOE.jpg

LIANNE MALY, Active.com Associate Writer (San Diego office) participated in the Del Mar Mud Run in an unlimited team (Team Extreme). The mud clad group took third place in the team category and had an awesome time slipping and sliding in the mud! Here’s the names if you want/need them: First photo: The Group: Scott Fetters, Eric Ramirez, Ashish Gupta, Christopher Grande, Dave Soroka, Dave Pomeroy, Kristina Kenyon, Lianne Maly, 2nd Photo: Kristina Kenyon, Lianne Maly.

MICHELLE NATION (Product Manager, San Diego) – I had an incredible experience on Sunday morning as a volunteer “Swim Buddy” at the SheRox triathlon.   Swim buddies get to help first-time open water swimmers by swimming alongside them and encouraging them, keeping them calm and on course.  It was motivating, inspiring and humbling to be at their sides seeing them tackle their challenges and then an honor to be the first to congratulate them on making it through the swim and wish them well on the bike course.  As an added bonus, it was a blast to see the smiling faces of some ActiveX friends while I was there … especially wonderful to give an old friend  a hug as she got out of the water with a new personal best time … it wasn’t that long ago that she was a beginner swimmer herself.  Priceless experience … can’t wait till the next race where I can be a swim buddy again!

MATTHEW HENRY (Bothell, WA) played in his second game of the winter hockey season, losing to Mid Ice Crisis 3-2 on Sunday evening.  Or maybe we won, 2-1 depending on how you look at it.  The new Sentinels goalie is becoming somewhat notorious for his late arrivals and in this game, he made it on the ice roughly 7 minutes and 2 goals in.  So, if you think about how the game went with us having a goalie on the ice vs. the entire game … we did pretty well!

The Active IT team of Art Pacheco, Todd Preece, Greg Ingino, Aaron Rigney  and Jim Sola participated in the Del Mar Mud Run on Saturday.  It was a nice, cool overcast morning and the course turned out to be quite challenging.  Everyone had a great time and we’re all looking forward to doing it again next year.

MARC KOZAI competed in the 2011 Fall Classic.  A surfing competition put on by and judged by your peers. A contest where it is not uncommon to find a beginner surfer in the finals.  While the photo was taken by his wife, she was using his camera gear and he is offering his photography services in exchange for a small donation to support CAF and the Charity Challenge.  There is not a single surfer out there who would not love a photo of themselves.  So if you or someone you know is a surfer, let them know about this opportunity or buy it as a gift (can be used at a later date, but donation needs to be made prior to December).  Remember the holidays are right around the corner and this could be THE PERFECT GIFT!!! LINDA MANOSH, Active Outdoors Human Resources Generalist (in the middle with friends), walked the Mohawk Hudson River Half Marathon on Sunday in Albany.  A really great sunny day with good friends!

ROB POWELL & NANCY LUKACEV (Media +Marketing) took part in the Annual Historic Riverfront 5K Run/Walk in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday and hosted a pre/post-race breakfast for a number of clients from General Mills.  It was a perfect 80 degree fall day and fun was had by all.  A number of the clients that participated have already indicated that they hope it was Active’s 1st Annual Event!

ROBERT.JPG

TOM MCGORTY, Client Application Specialist. Thanks to Active & ActiveX, I was able to purchase my first bike (Trek 7500) EVER! I went on my first ride (5 miles) this past Sunday and a wonderful Fall day in Kalamazoo. I even purchased a trainer so I can use the bike indoors during the Winter. Now if I can’t just figure out all the gears!

TODD PREECE a trip to Egypt last week on a dive expedition with friends in the Red Sea.  A "DiveX" video of Todd and his wife scootering a reef where 4 ships met their fate and then topping off the event with a pod of 14 dolphins is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9yls-SbYqY

AUSTIN BRAATEN, AE for Camps in Bothelloffice, ran the Victoria Marathon on Sunday. The conditions were optimal and course relatively flat, helping her achieve a marathon PR of 3:14 and enjoy a Canadian Thanksgiving!

Here is the report from RUI ZHANG (China ClassTeam)Allen Qin (Software Engineer, ActiveNet), Rocky Ren (Software Engineer, ActiveNet) and Rui Zhang (QA Class) had a 70KM+ riding at Saturday to South WuTai Mountain and Sh iBianYu reservoir. There is an old town at the foot of the mountain but it is almost deserted, then we rode to the reservoir within a short distance. Though the road started to turn in bends and switchback, we didn’t give up and believe there must be beautiful scenery in the front. Finally after through two caves, we saw the reservoir with vast expanse of water. This is a worthwhile trip!

RUI1.jpgRUI2.jpg

LARS RONNING: My son Emil and I ran the 13.3K (8.3 miles) “Eremitagelø bet” in Denmark (with almost 20,000 participants) which according to the organizer is the world’s oldest run encouraging the general public to get fit. I have run it since I was a teenager, and a few years ago I introduced it to my kids and wife. This year it was only Emil and myself running, with Magnus and Helene cheering. My finish time was 57.25, which I was very pleased with. I finished in the top 11% in my age group (179 out of 1709). Emil followed a few minutes later – so he can still not quite keep up with his dad, but he’s getting closer!

BRENT PARRISH reports the traditional camp steam, in the Bothell office, had our first  Annual Columbus Day Fishing Derby.  Account executive Brent Parrish is holding the winning fish. He partnered with Greg Clark who is not in the photo.

BRENT.jpg

Robert Mitchell, web developer in the San Diego office took Arch’s advice and did some exploring on Columbus Day.  I decided to do a big mountain bike climb and tackle Nate Harrison dirt grad upto Palomar Mountain.  With 3500 ft of climbing in 7 miles it was brutal but a blast with a great view at the top.   The first photo islooking down from about half way up, I couldn’t get a shot of myself up top so my bike had to fill in.

ROBERT1.jpgROBERT2.jpg

Boulder runners Kyle Rose, Anthony Chiulli, Whitney Montoya, Janine Russell (her first half) and Justin Moser braved the cold in Denver and ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon together.  Not only did the team represent the “Events Division” of Active by pretty much dominating the field, we also raised money for the Air Foundation, a charity that helps less fortunate community members enhance their lives with running.  Minor mishaps happened along the way, but we were glad to participate with 20,000 of our best friends in this yearly event.

JUSTIN1.JPG

MATTHEW HENRY (Bothell, WA) ran the Chicago Marathon again this year, this time with absolutely no training.  So with no training, no clouds and plenty of heat, the race went pretty well all things considered.  He did miss the proper start of the race, so he wound up in the very back of the pack (it does take over half an hour to clear 30,000+ runners past the start line). Somewhere around mile 5 he ran (or rather was chased down by) some other new Active folk from the faith market in Las Vegas.  Arch, we need to get them some ActiveX gear stat!  Later on around mile 7, he ran into his friend Jessika from Seattle who was having a rough day.  It just doesn't pay to get sick right before a marathon.  But she headed out there to give it her best effort as only she would do.  A few miles later, he met up with his sister Jessica, who fresh off her honeymoon and seriously jet lagged still ran with him for a few miles.  She was even nice enough to go grocery shopping for him and very nearly was robbed by a thirsty runner. As she puts it, she was having a conversation with someone when a runner came up to her and tried to grab MY water bottle.  He was not successful. She managed to fight the runner off and found me a bit later with food before sending him off on his merry way.  At some point during the race, a runner from Team in Training turned to look for her two sisters and saw me right behind her with my Active gear on and got excited for a moment because she knew who Active was.  Yay for brand recognition!  That's really all the eventfulness that happened on the race and Matt finished in just over 5:30.  Which was pretty great considering the massive amounts of training he didn't put in.

STACI RIEDER, acct manager at Reg Online, hiking Lake Isabel on Columbus Day. It is 10,000 feet in elevation, so there was a foot of snow, while Boulder was sunny and 50 degrees.

Concordia Chen, Business Analyst, Christine Crosby, Account Executive for Communities, and Jennifer White, Sales Rep for Endurance enjoyed our Day of Discovery/Columbus Day with a nice bike ride up the San Diego coast starting at Solana Beach to Oceanside and back.  The weather was perfect and we all had a fantastic day!

On Monday, Oct. 10th - Ashley Peters, Bryan Pavin, Jennifer Meanley, Ryan Scanlon, Valerie Prestidge & friends embarked upon their own Columbus Day voyage to conquer El Cajon Mountain.  Anarduous 11.5 mile hike peaking at 3,675 feet above sea level with a constant gaining and losing of altitude.  We came across some wildlife, took advantageof the many photo opps & soaked in the breath taking panoramic views. A challenging adventure shared with amazing people.

ActiveAdvanatge Web Developer Bryan Pavin had a full and "Active" Columbus day weekend.  From Arch Fuston's Saturday brick step down in La JollaShores (It was killer!!!), To a late Sunday afternoon 12 mile mountain bike ride at the Elfin Forest in Escondido and finally capping off the great weekend with a challenging but full of laughs 11.5 mile hike at El Cajon Mountain (3,675feet above sea level) with Ashley Peters, Jennifer Meanley, Ryan Scanlon,Valerie Prestidge & friends. I have to say other than the Napa Valley Ragnar Relay this one of the best weekends I have had as an employee at the Active Network.

VALARIE1.jpgVALARIE2.jpg

Katie Harvey, Sales Manager at the London Office joined her friend Anna Hughes (and Natalia Maus) on Sunday for the Brighton to Rye leg of her epic 4,500 mile ride roundthe entire coast of Britain, which she completed on Tuesday after 2 and a half arduous months. The coast was absolutely stunning and we got really lucky with the weather, especially the tailwind that kept us going up the hills! You can read the blog of her adventures here; http://www.eatsleepcycle-anna.blogspot.com/

ROBERT EREKSON ran the Chicago Marathon this weekend with a friend from Indiana. It was the first marathon either of us have ever run, and I must say we made agreat choice...the Chicago Marathon is incredible. My running partner had a couple injuries come up during the run, so our time wasn't fast but we finished! Hoping to knock over an hour off my time at the Las Vegas Marathon in 2 months. We had shirts made in honor of my brother that passed away last month.

Heather Levine (Project Coordinator –Sacramento):  I did the Urban Cow Half-Marathon on Sunday with my friend Mandy (her first half!) and my fiancé, Ian.  It was a great run, and I shaved 20 minutes off my time for a PR of 3:10!  I was in a state of disbelief when we rounded the corner at mile 13 and I saw the clock.  Thisi s a very fun race with a small town feel.  Lots of great volunteers.  The weather was great, and the course took us all around Land Park (nice Sacramento neighborhood), the American River, Downtown (we ran bythe mall, but only did some window shopping), and Old Sacramento.  Here is a picture of us at the finish line – the medal was a real cowbell.

INGRID CLARKE-PITT, Systems Administrator I.  Yesterday she participated in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC 5K  Run for the Cure. This is a cause that I have supported since my mom died 10 years ago of cancer.  This year Canadians raised over $30 million. The funds raised support the Foundation’s vision of creating a future without  breast cancer.  My 16 year old son participated with me this year.

AARON WALDMAN, Software Developer/Membership from the San Diego office completed the Mission Bay Triathlon and was able to get anew PR 1:20:08. This was a fun course and it was great to see the Active family out there, along with my brother in law Rob Pizzurro getting back at it!

BRIAN ENGE, VP Revenue Growth joined several Active teammates for the Mission Bay Triathlon in San Diego.  “Getting on ActiveX on the podium always makes me feel like I’m making Arch proud”  DON’T LET HIM GIVE YOU A HARD TIME ARCH HE USUALLY BUYS HIS WAY ONTO THE PODIUM! Mike

ERIC OLSON, GM SMB Events, raced Ironman Pocono Mountains 70.3 this weekend. Flooding rains forced the race directors to cancel the swim and made an already very technical bike course even scarier, but the sun peaked out for a while on Sunday and it was a good event in my home state. I was happy with my effort and got to spend some quality time with mom (pictured here) and enjoy some of the fall colors.

ERIC.jpg

From the Boulder office, Jeannie Freis,Whitney Montoya, and friend Kelly Feagans ran the Skirt Chaser 5k at Broncos Stadium/Invesco Field.  The women started first in a sea of skirts, and the men followed with a delayed 3 minute start (hence the name "skirtchaser").  Stickers for singles were distributed with race bibs, and shirtless men ran with their phone numbers written on their backs, and one woman made a QR code with her contact info taped to her back...all in all,a very entertaining event.

JEANNIE.JPG

MEGAN SWIRSKI, Client Support Supervisor this weekend participated in the 2011 Hell Run in Carnation, WA.  Notorious for the signature HR capes and all out obstacle course, the 3.25 mile run takes youthrough mud pit after mud pit, through frigid river waters and fire pits, and under and over barbed wire; basically to hell and back. It was a balmy 54 degrees, perfect for the run.  A great way to spend Saturdayafternoon!

MEGAN.jpg

MICHELLE NIKOLAYEVSKY, Product Specialist inthe Boulder office, ran the Denver Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday. We ran the 5k course first, and then walked it a second time with a bunch of friends and family. The Denver race is one of the largest Race For the Cure’s in the country, and was such an inspirational and motivating event. Glad we participated!  This picture was taken post race, (I’m in the Active shirt) with my future sister in law. We somehow managed to score some cool pink sunglasses for the cause!

MICHELLE.jpg

KAREN HARDY & CHRISTINA HANSON, played and had fun doing the Mission Bay Triathlon (which by the way is where Triathlon started in the 70’s) with all their fellow Active team members.

KAREN.jpg

MEGAN LAVINE, Corporate Communications Manager, wasn’t a huge fan of running but dreamt of one day running (notwalking) a 5K. In comes the Active.com Couch-to-5K app. Megan is happy to report that she has completed Week 3, Day 2 and is feeling great!

MEGANLAVINE.jpg

MICHAEL PRODER – IS Project Manager -completed his 2nd Mission Bay Triathlon (4th tri in the last 12 months) on a beautiful Sunday in San Diego. The weather was perfect and as always, the Active support and friendship was almost as abundant as the sunshine!

MICHAEL.jpg

PAUL MCLURE,Account Manager did his second Mission Bay Triathlon on Sunday.  Besides swallowing more Bay water than I liked, it was another great race with lots of Active support along the way.  Walking across the Ingraham bridge on the way to the event at 5:45am I took in the great view before the sun was up and the lights were on in the transition area.

PAUL.JPG

BRYAN CROSBY, Software Engineer for Active.com competed in his second triathlon at the Mission Bay Triathlon. Along with other Active triathletes, I had an awesome experience.  After just learning how to swim this summer, I felt more confident in my swim going into the race and felt I improved on both the swim and the bike.  Cheers to everyone that competed and finished the Mission Bay Tri!

BRYAN.jpg

MATTHEW HENRY (Bothell, WA) opened the winter season of Sentinels hockey yesterday afternoon with a substantially revamped roster.  All the changes aside, the game ended with a 2-1 Sentinels victory over the Monarchs.  He was moved to defense for the first time inhis short career but managed to do pretty well despite not having any idea how to skate backwards.  The team outshot the Monarchs 39-11 and overallplayed really well for the first game of the season.  It's evident that the team still has a lot to learn like "6 men on the ice at a time, notnine."  But the season is young, and a lot to look forward to.

JOEL WERDELL got a new bike (thank you Employee Bike Purchase program!) and road it into the office for the first time today.  It was awesome Pic of the mechanic and sales manager.

WHAT MAKES OUR COMPANY AND TEAM MEMBERS GREAT IS THE DIVERSITY OF EACH INDIVIDUAL.  KEEP UP THE PARTICIPATION IN YOUR PASSIONS, ITS A CLEAR PATH TO HAPPINESS. Mike

MICHELE CREPEAU participated in the 10 Anniversary Tunnel to Towers Run in New York City with friends “AMAZING turnout, over 30,000 people all walking and running to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11 and our military heroes”.  “The city was blessed by beautiful blue skies and wonderful spirit.  Have to confess having the firefighters march into the crowded post race block party filled with participants and their families, carrying banners with pictures of all 343 firefighters with the new Tower standing tall in the background was pretty emotional as they played God Bless America.”

This race draws firefighters from around the world each year and this year all funds raised went to support building homes for 3 triple amputees who lost limbs in Iraq/ Afghanistan.  “One of themen ran yesterday so was truly the hero of the day.”  The race is expanding nationally and added 31 events this year with a goal of having 343 races in the future (www.tunneltotowersrun.org)

This brutal11-mile round trip feels like its uphill both ways with 3,000' of elevation gain, loose rock and washed out sections of the trail. Here's a pic from thetop, above the clouds:

BRET LINDEMAN tackled the MCRD Boot Camp Challenge with friends and fellow athletics enthusiasts.  It was agrueling 3 mile obstacle run ruled by Marine Corps Drill Instructors yelling ateveryone throughout the journey – yeah their job demands that they not be asnice as ActiveX’s own Arch and Katya.  Thanks to the motivation awarded inworking out with all of my fellow ActiveX’ers, I was able to run the entire wayto finish in 24 minutes and 58 seconds.

JOEL WERDELL reports Team ActiveX took to thelanes at the third annual Peak 7 Bocce Ball tournament.  Zach Panther(Software Engineer), Shannon Panther (Wife of a Software Engineer and marathonand triathlon specialist), Andrew Frantz (lead developer) did slight better than expected and pulled off a few wins in pool play before being eliminated inan overtime deciding match that kept them out of the playoffs.  Superkudos to Arch and Natassia for helping make the sponsorship a success.

JAY OZIMINSKI (Facilities Rep II - Nashville)participated in the 58 mile Soldier Ride-Nashville on Saturday, benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project. The ride was a huge challenge for me thru the rolling hills south of Nashville, but very rewarding to see returning servicemen and women who have protected us in the military.

LISA BALDWIN, Burnaby office, reports thatBurnaby participated in our 2nd Charity Challenge event of the year, the Rotary Club Half Marathon and 5km run.  Fiona “Wheels” Dirom, Lisa Baldwin, Shazia Iameo, and Tamara Lee took on the 5km while Bettina Boyle,Melissa Douglas and Paul “the lone male” Hiller braved the half marathon course.  An extremely windy day resulting in widespread power outages madethings that much more difficult but the team braved the elements and had fantastic finishes all around.  As satisfying as it is to cross the finish line with a PR, it was more personally satisfying to see people who thought they could never run, let alone finish and finish STRONG cross that finishline.  In addition, with our 2 events we raised over $4700 for Kid Sport BC, an organization committed to paying sports program registration fees for under privileged kids in our local community.

MARCLEGLISE (Sr Software Engineer) took a flying lesson on the JetLev R200 water jet pack in Coronado, CA. It was insanely fun and unlike any other water sport.  Where else can you fly a personal jetpack?! The future is here and it is awesome!

Jim Garfield (M&M) raced his first LosAngeles Triathlon this weekend.  An interesting point to point race, from Venice beach to downtown LA.  Besides one of the biggest hills in a race course I ever had to run up, the race went through one of those “only in LA”elements….fake snow.  It was weird running and seeing what looked like snow on the side of the road…turned out it was “real” fake snow being used in a film.  Not just any movie but the new “Batman” movie being filmed downtown. I was even able to get a picture of the double secret BAT MOBILE Now that’s an LA Triahtlon!

MATTHEW HENRY (Bothell, WA) was in BeaverCreek, Colorado this weekend for his sister's wedding and manage to get in around of golf at Beaver Creek Golf Resort.  He isn't the best golfer by any means, but it was a great day and a great place to golf.  The altitude was certainly helpful in making him look a little bit better.  Score was definitely not kept because … yeah.  But he did get to play with his brother who can be seen eyeing a birdie putt in one of these pictures. Overall, it was a great weekend and everyone said I do.
