Let me start off by saying that I am still recovering from the cold and I had to literally talk myself into exercising every day that I did. So with that said I accomplished all of my goals for this past week! It was tough but I made it through.
I got in 2 strength workouts, 2 runs (4 miles each run), and today a long run of 6 miles which I actually completed outside! I struggled a lot through my long run and had to take a few seconds here and there to walk a bit. I forgot how different it is to run outside versus running on a treadmill. I tackled some hills along my run and was able to break into a sprint towards the end. I am having some soreness in my right calf muscle and some stiffness after this run.
I also discovered a great new running place. Our local state park has a run/bike trail with very scenic views over the river. It will serve as a great place to get in my long runs as I get closer to the Chicago Marathon.
So overall, even though I struggled through some of my workouts I accomplished everything I wanted to and that feels AWESOME!
I also received some really great running related news this week. I made it to a seeded corral in the Shamrock Shuffle. It looks like there is going to be 36,000 people in this race. Whew! In order to get into a seeded corral you had to have finished a race (5k, 10k, Half Marathon, or Marathon) within a certain time and show proof of your time to the Shamrock Shuffle staff. So, I printed out my best 5k time (25:33) and faxed it in and I am now in Corral C and in the 1st Wave Start! I missed qualifying for Corral B by 33 seconds! The corrals go from Elite, A, B, C and then there is a section for Running Club Member and then open runners. I really feel like I am becoming a serious runner now! Ok Elites.....I am coming for you! :-)
