The Soldier Field 10

Posted by Deano528 May 31, 2008

We played Indianapolis on Friday (23rd) and I must admit we ROCKED!!

Sometimes you just know it. Not only do things sound right but they feel right. Things are just right.

Indie was right... Kudos DHD's.

After the show it would be a cool 186 miles to our next performance, Chicago.

It was sorta weird getting ready for this run out here. I mean at home or at a hotel, where ever you will be laying you head down prior to the moments before you once again, test your endurance and human spirit, your able to kinda lay things out, make sure everything is there. Nothing worse than looking for that last boost of energy and you realize you left the Hammer Strength Gels in your expo bag. Living on a bus with eight other guys makes it a bit difficult to lay things out. I did the best I could.

4:30 am came quick... 3:30 am was even quicker... thanks Jeff. We had a 5:15 departure time and I had to have my coffee and take care of some business.

We made it there with plenty of time to set up the tent, get things ready for afterwards, and make our way to the starting platforms.

It was great seeing and running with the other members of Team McGraw again, some of them I've not seen since we ran New York in November. It's funny how by doing these fund raising events we're not only helping some incredible people, we're meeting some incredible people and making amazing friends... It's definitely a win win.

The run was very well organized. The people who met us and helped us get things together were very kind and helpful Thank you all.

The route was great, plenty of water stations and the scenery was awesome. There were a couple times I wished there was a bit more room, it was a little tight on the trails back to the field but all in all, fantastic.

It was pretty incredible running through the tunnel and on to Soldier Field. To think of some of the events that have taken place on that ground since the early 1920's just blows my mind. What a monument to athlete's of all genres.

We rocked Chicago that evening, slept like a rock on the way home, and I was at the house in time to cook breakfast for Cindy and the boys. How sweet life is!

And I complain about running room...

Shut up and RUN,

Deano

Just Stuff...

Indianapolis Indiana...

This morning I rolled out of my bunk and peaked outside where I was greeted by gray skies and rain. The kind of weather that makes you want to get back in bed and snuggle with your special someone... or ... a good book which ever fits your situation. Today it was a book. I'm still reading James Bradley's Fly Boys a true story of some airmen shot down in the Pacific during WWII. I say still because my neighbor gave me this book way before Christmas and Im only about half way through it. It's so atrocious that I can only handle little bits at a time but still a remarkable story. So I read for and hour or so then made my way to the hotel room to clean up and get on with the day.

I was totally clueless as I often am, about our location but as soon as we pulled in front of the venue I recalled playing this place years ago when we were on tour with Little Texas and Black Hawk. The memory jogger was the large pond in front of this venue, The Verizon Wireless Music Center, which I'm sure 12 years ago was called something else. We fished that pond all day!! Until our thumbs were raw from holding open the mouths of the fish we caught to remove the hooks. It was great! Pulling in I wished I had a fishing pole.

Today was a day off for me. We caught a quick three yesterday in Detroit, Michigan and Jeff and I will be running tomorrow in Chicago in the 2008 Fleet Feet Sports Soldier Field 10 Mile.

That's going to be Great!!

What A crazy life I lead

Runnin', Rockin', and Rollin'

I am truly blessed.

Orlando, Florida

Posted by Deano528 May 11, 2008

From my hotel window the palm trees sway before the Orlando skyline. So it's kind of like running against a gigantic hair dryer... good thing I'm not running today. Nope, I'm meeting up with an old friend to have lunch, catch up and bring to the show. It's a good thing to rest the machine and catch up with friends.

The tour has been a blast so far. Two great performances, hopefully another one to follow tonight then we'll head for the house for some much needed hugs and kisses.

Last night was West Palm Beach Fla. a great crowd. and we'll kick off next Thursday in Birmingham.

As far as running goes things are moving right along, feeling good, feeling strong.

I have to figure some other ways to raise more funds for the foundation. I want this year to be the best year ever in that regard.

I feel so blessed and there really are times that I have to step back and soak it all in because sometimes things happen so fast that the fine, precious details become blurry and missed. I don't want to miss the details, I want to experience it all.

Ty I look forward to seeing you and your girlfriend this after noon and I hope you know if you ever need anything you can call on me.

One Day Closer...

Posted by Deano528 May 8, 2008

I love breakfast... coffee... eggs... toast... the first meal of another beautiful day.

Another chance to be better than yesterday.

Yesterday was great too, i got a lot accomplished.

Once i realized i wasn't going to be home in time for Mother's Day i had to take care of business.

Luckily, Mick, my tech, had a rental car and i was able to get to civilization and pick up a couple of cards and a little something for Cindy.

  • It's always the times that you need to be across from a mall that your miles from one.

And then the mailing it and the... but Hey! I got it done.

We had our first full production last night.

    Lights, camera, action, let's ROCK!!

Overall i think things went great. I love playing outside, it must be the kid in me.

I can't wait to actually play in front of some people.

The running has been going well.

I'm going with Denny today. He and I ran New York in 2003 and I don't think we've ran together for about two years. He says

he thinks his running days are over, which after seeing 94 year old men running the New York City Marathon it's hard to believe. So today will be a run/walk and that will be fine with me.

Running Nashville

Posted by Deano528 May 6, 2008

The forecast called for rain, so i wasn't too surprised when awakened before my 4:00 am alarm by the rain hitting my bed room window. i thought to myself, how hard would it be to carry an extra pair of shoes, and how would be the easiest way.

I continued with my morning routine, get the gear on, make the coffee with a little personal time in between... it was all falling into place. I was a bit nervous though i mean not butterflies but moths maybe... medium moths.

Cause i hadn't really really trained for this one. After New York, which was AMAZING!! Everyone did an outstanding job, THANK YOU!! i had a blast, but after New York I recouped and then just gradually eased back into it never really training. I blame it on the weather... it was cold and rainy... man, i sound like a wuss. But i just couldn't get back into it. So my confidence level just wasn't where i'd liked it to be. But I was sure I was going to finish run, walk, or crawl.

So i grabbed my Disney World poncho and coffee and into the rain i went. And rain it did. All the way there, the entire 45 plus minutes i sat in traffic and all the way up to about 15 minutes before we started, then it stopped. By that time i had already met up with the rest of the team and we were on our way to the corrals.

The run was great the music wasn't all that but i'm sure the rain had a lot to do with it.

My toe did good. The only thing that kind of slowed me was near the end i tried to push it and pick up the pace and my calfs began to cramp up. That happened to me in New York... i gotta fix that. But all in all the whole experience was fantastic.

Cindy and the boys met me at the end, the boys, both Julian and Gabriel had flag football games so we scurried off to the football fields. Then after that Julian had a Jump Force demonstration in the downtown square so we rushed to that. It was a beautiful day.

Then that night after everyone was bathed, brushed, and in bed i slept... like a rock.

Never doubt what you are capable of once you set your mind to it.

Shut up and run
