The show was taped on location on April 12, 2008, at Lake Las Vegas Resort, a destination located approximately 17 miles from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Featuring Sprint and Intermediate-distance races, the inaugural event took more than 800 females, ages 11 to 68 years old, into the pristine waters of Lake Las Vegas, on a challenging bike ride through the town of Henderson, Nevada, and on a scenic run along the grounds of the Lake Las Vegas Resort property.
Watch as Aflac Iron Girl Lake Las Vegas Champion, Mirinda Carfrae, and fellow world-renowned professional athletes such as 2006 Ironman 70.3 World Champion, Samantha McGlone; short-course specialist, Becky Lavelle and Ironman World Champion, Karen Smyers, compete for a $15,000 prize purse.
Additionally, several inspirational athletes are highlighted to include:
- Becky Lamph, 40, from Las Vegas, NV. Becky exemplifies strength following remission from thyroid cancer and as the mother of an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia survivor.
- Patti Jackson, 44, from Alexandria, VA. Patti is a member of the United States Air Force, as well as a breast cancer survivor.
- Tracy Guaderrama, 37, from El Cajon, CA. Tracy inspires others with her bravery serving as Homicide Detective for the San Diego Police Department. The event marked the one-year anniversary of her kidney donation that saved her mom's life.
- Lisa Jamison, 46, from Tampa, FL. A veteran Iron Girl athlete, Lisa dedicates this race, among others, to her brother-in-law, who was recently diagnosed with melanoma.
