"TEAM SURFING USA" HELPS SUPPORT CAUSES BY CROSSING THE U.S.A. FROM MALIBU, CA TO MANHATTAN, NY ON THEIR BIKES AND STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDS

On June 18, 2009, the team will begin their journey by stand-up paddle surfing from Malibu, California to Oceanside, California which is approximately a 115-mile distance. Upon their arrival in Oceanside, Ca, they will begin the "Race Across America" (RAAM) on June 20, 2009. RAAM's legendary stature has earned the respect and admiration of people from all over the world in its 28 years of annual endurance competition. It has established itself as one of the true pinnacles of global sporting accomplishments, seen as the highest level of challenge for ultra-endurance.

This team consists of amateur cyclists who are humbled by the challenge, highly competitive, but are looking to achieve their own personal best. RAAM's previous best record for the race is 5 days, 8 hours, and 17 minutes which covered a distance of 2,959 miles. Upon their arrival at the finish line in Annapolis, Maryland, they will be continuing their journey by stand-up paddle surfing and cycling from Annapolis to the Statue of Liberty in New York, an approximate distance of over 300 miles.

Unlike other famous races like the Tour de France, RAAM is not a stage race. RAAM is contested in a single-stage, with no scheduled rest breaks. It is the world's longest time-trial. Team RAAM racers in 2009 will ride over 3,000 miles from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD in a non-stop 24/7 effort across 14 states and over 100,000 feet of climbing. To win the 4-person division, teams will need to ride just over 500 miles per day. (Just try driving that!)

Big wave surfer and world famous waterman, Laird Hamilton has once again teamed up with a founder of Bally Total Fitness and 8-time Ironman competitor, Don Wildman, in an effort to set a new RAAM and world record for cycling across America. Joining them is Rage against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford, and amateur cyclist and Ironman participant, Jason Winn. Known as "Team Surfing USA" the four-some has joined together in an effort to create greater awareness and funding for Autism, Lou Gehrig's Disease and other important causes they hold close to their hearts.

Referred to by Men's Journal as "the world's greatest surfer", Laird Hamilton is considered a pioneer in the world of water sports. Having been raised on Oahu's North Shore, Laird has spent his entire life exploring and enjoying the ocean through surfing and completing epic long distance journeys on his ocean-going paddleboard and crating the fast-forward speed sailing loop. When he was twenty-two years old, Laird entered a speed-sailing competition in Port Saint-Louis, France, defeated the heavily favored French champion, and broke the European speed record of 36 knots. Today, Laird surfs the outer-reefs in Hawaii with his friends and uses his years of knowledge of working with different board designs to catch the giant waves he's famous for mastering. Please visit http://www.lairdhamilton.com to learn more about this amazing athlete and humanitarian.

Don Wildman, 76 years old, a founder of Bally Total Fitness, who at 17 years of age, was shipped to the front lines as a combat medic in Korea, quickly rose to become a platoon leader and then a sergeant. After returning home from the war, Don became a mastermind in the business world, but also a world-class athlete in several sports. Wildman, an 8-time Ironman participant, is no stranger to RAAM, having raced in 1994.

Born in California, Tim Commerford began playing bass at a young age, and music and poetry quickly became his outlet. He became a founding member of the monumental band "Rage against the Machine," which quickly became a voice that represented an entire generation. In 1993, Tim was introduced to mountain biking by his future father-in-law. He has since become an obsessive mountain biker, even going so far as to thank all of his bikes in the liner notes for his albums.

Jason Winn is no stranger to extreme sports. Growing up in California, he was the quarterback throughout his school years, and he earned a full scholarship to Texas Tech University to play football. He completed his first Ironman Triathlon at the age of 23. But, Jason commented that, "The Ironman is easy compared to the Race Across America and our goal is to set a new world record!" Soon after the triathlon, he started Bonk Breaker, Inc. Energy Bars, and they are now in their 4^th^ year of the company and have won Competitor Magazine's Best of 2006-2008 (people's choice award for the Energy Bar Category). In April 2009, Men's Health Magazine/Outside Magazine published Bonk Breaker Energy Bars as "Best bar we've tasted". Bonk Breaker is now sold in 4 countries. For more information on BonkBreaker, visit http://www.bonkbreaker.com/.

In 2006, Hamilton and Dave Kalama soloed while Wildman and others relayed a 500-mile journey through the ocean channels between the Hawaiian Islands, via standup paddle boarding and cycling across each island to raise awareness and funds for Autism causes http://www.beautifulson.com/. They are now ready to take on their next big challenge with Commerford and Winn, by competing in the upcoming "Race across America."

Hamilton, who has also stand-up paddled on a surfboard across the English Channel, as well as cycled from London to Paris in just 2 days, is now leading this effort. "We've put together a world class team of extreme athletes and cyclists, with the goal of helping raise awareness and funds for various causes such as Autism, and Lou Gehrig's disease. Also, I am involved with "Pipeline for a Cure" for Cystic Fibrosis. I feel honored and blessed to be healthy and be able to make such a crossing. Hopefully our crossing will inspire people to be active and healthy for themselves and to give back in a way that's personal to them. I know from past crossings that one of my driving forces comes from the experiences I've had and seen with people affected by these various diseases, who have the kind of strength and courage that is admirable and inspirational."

Wildman, who has a grandson with Autism, adds "after dedicating over 50 years of my life to fitness, I hope this latest event will motivate young and old as well as those with special needs to challenge themselves and get active, like my friend Augie Nieto, who is a living example." Wildman and Nieto were pioneers in the fitness industry together. Augie received a diagnosis of ALS in March 2005. He is the former CEO of Life Fitness. Augie is also the chief inspiration officer for MDA's Augie's Quest and he and his wife, Lynn, serve as co-chairperson of MDA's ALS Division. Augie's Quest http://www.augiesquest.org/. MDA's ALS research initiative. It's an aggressive, cure-driven effort singularly focused on finding treatments and cures for ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease. MDA is the world leader in ALS research and services. Wildman says "It was a natural fit to honor him and his efforts by supporting Augie's Quest."

With millions of devoted fans, "Rage" bassist Tim Commerford comments, "Wildman and Hamilton have always been a real inspiration. These guys are as extreme as it gets, so I couldn't pass up a chance to get involved, especially for such good causes." Commerford will also be riding to support Hans Rey's "Wheels4life".

The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) will auction a prized slot to the Ford Ironman World Championship, organized and conducted by the World Triathlon Corporation, at a gala dinner in New York City on June 10. The winning bidder (or his/her designee) may compete in either 2009 or 2010. Proceeds from the auction will help fund specialized equipment, training and coaching for physically challenged athletes so they can participate in the sports that many able-bodied individuals take for granted.

Interested parties can bid on the coveted slot in one of two ways: In person, by buying a ticket for A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope (tickets are $500; discounts available for NY-area triathlon club members; go to http://www.heroesheartandhope.com/-- to learn more) or by downloading and completing a proxy bid form at http://www.challengedathletes.org/
http://www.challengedathletes.org/ and faxing it to 858.866.0958. Proxy bid forms will be accepted through Noon (PST) on Tuesday, June 9. The minimum opening bid for proxy bidders is $20,000 and during the live auction, bids will be made in increments of $1,000 until the bidder's maximum bid is reached. The winning bidder must have completed an Ironman 70.3 or other long distance triathlon by Oct. 1 prior to the Hawaii race date and is required to submit a completed athlete waiver to Ironman. For a complete list of auction rules, go to http://www.challengedathletes.org/.

"As we prepare for our third annual event, we recognize the importance of the event sponsors like Ironman," said Virginia Tinley, CAF's Executive Director. "The Ironman slot has always been a significant and extremely popular item in the live auction, and has raised many thousands of dollars to support the important mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation."

Held at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel, A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope will feature challenged athlete "stars," celebrities, and notable New Yorkers. Funds raised at the event will help challenged athletes overcome the economic roadblocks to participation in sports and live life to the fullest. This year's gala will honor Mark Holowesko, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Holowesko Partners Ltd. for his leadership, contributions and athletic success.

About Challenged Athletes Foundation
Since 1994, the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) has raised more than $21 million and satisfied more than 4,000 funding requests from challenged athletes around the world via its Access for Athletes program. CAF provide funding directly to physically challenged individuals for the acquisition of adaptive sports equipment like sports wheelchairs, mono-skis, tandem bicycles, handcycles and sports prosthetics. Additionally CAF provides funds to entry- and elite-level athletes for training and competition expenses. Through its other programs - Catch a Rising Star (mentoring and introduction to sports), Operation Rebound (for U.S. military personnel and first responders injured while serving) and Reach High (community outreach), the organization reaches an additional 65,000 individuals per year. In 2009, CAF distributed more than $1.36 million in funding to 765 individuals in 49 U.S. states and 25 countries.
Sanchez, Fuhr Finish First at XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series Finale

Press Release

An exciting, record-breaking day of racing closed the 2009 XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series on Saturday in Malibu. Almost 750 runners stepped up to the start line of what race director Brennan Lindner called "the perfect XTERRA course with a little bit of everything. Runners had to tackle steep climbs, sweet single track, and long descents. It was a killer race that really pushed everyone to their limits."

No stranger to the XTERRA SoCal Series after winning the last two races, triathlete legend Heather Fuhr, 41 from Encinitas, beat her own 2008 course record by one minute finishing in just 1 hour, 47 minutes, 34 seconds. Chasing her was Culver City resident Mary Lockton, 31, crossing the line almost 2½ minutes behind Fuhr to claim the runner-up position.

Los Angeles local and City of Angels Half-Marathon champion Romualdo Sanchez, 39, won the 22-kilometer event in 1:38:53, beating Newbury Park's Jonathan Tolker by three minutes. Sanchez, a SoCal running star, also has his sights on the LA Marathon coming up in just two weeks.

In addition to the main half-marathon distance Xduro event, a fun 6-kilomter race took part in the day's festivities. Jaakko Hiekkatanta of Lexington, KY and Kyle Legones of Huntington Beach won the men's and women's races in 27:14 and 30:01, respectively.

Not only did the course reward runners with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, they were met at the finish line with the welcome sight of a hot breakfast consisting of eggs, muffins and tons of cold Gatorade.

While it's sad to see the 2009 XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series come to an end, Regional champions will be crowned and invited to race for free in the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship coming up on Sunday, September 13 in Bend, Ore. Hannah Rae Finchamp, a 13-year old from Altadena, who has clinched one of these coveted titles said, "The XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series puts on the best races. I love the challenges XTERRA provides that make me dig a little deeper to find energy and strength I didn't think I had."

Upcoming 2010 XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series
XTERRA Point Mugu Xduro Trail Run 11K / 18K - 09/29/09 - Oxnard, CA
XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot Trail Run 5K /10K / 15K - 11/26/09 - Topanga, CA
XTERRA Crystal Cove Trail Run 5K / 15K - 12/13/09 - Newport Coast, CA
A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope Gala Set for June 10: Event to Raise Funds for Physically Challenged Athletes

San Diego, Calif - Some of the world's most accomplished and inspirational physically challenged athletes will take center stage at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City for the third annual A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope gala (Heroes, Heart and Hope) on June 10 to benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). The gala event, which this year will honor Mark Holowesko - the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Holowesko Partners Ltd. - raised more than $800,000 in 2008 to fund handcycles, running prosthetics and other specialized equipment to help physically challenged athletes overcome the economic barriers that far too often prevent them from participating in sports and athletic activities.

"CAF's message of heroes, heart and hope will be a breath of fresh air for New York area supporters during these tough economic times," said Scott Stackman, Senior Vice President of UBS Financial Services Inc. and Chairman of the Heroes, Heart and Hope gala organizing committee. "Our goal at this event is to continue to raise awareness in the New York Tri-State area of what is possible given the right resources, and raise funds to get more physically challenged athletes off the sidelines and into the game."

The Heroes, Heart and Hope gala will also recognize sports legends and celebrities like Ironman greats Paula Newby-Fraser, Dave Scott and Scott Tinley, but the real stars will be the more than 20 physically challenged athletes - from kids to Hawaii Ironman finishers, from trailblazers to troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan - who are supported by CAF and will attend the event. Their stories of breaking barriers and perseverance will be showcased during the evening's program. Highlighted athletes will include:

New York's own Sam Cila. An American hero, who joined the New York National Guard after September 11, was injured in Iraq on July 4, 2005 and subsequently lost his hand. Sam continues to heal through sports.

David Gelfand. Born with the same condition as CAF Spokesperson and CBS's Amazing Race reality star Sarah Reinertsen - his idol, this young Weston, Connecticut native, an above-knee amputee, offers hope to other physically challenged kids.

Deanna Babcock. A competitive athlete her whole life, she was devastated when she lost her leg after suffering a heart attack at the young age of 23. Now with a new running foot, she's back into sport, and back into life.

Ricky James. When a motocross accident went horribly wrong, he lost the use of his legs, but not his competitive spirit.

The spirited live auction at the Heroes, Heart and Hope gala boasts a coveted spot in the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, (donated by Ironman) which last year was won with a $45,000 bid. Individuals unable to attend the Heroes, Heart and Hope gala will be able place proxy bids on the Ironman slot ahead of the event. Go to http://www.challengedathletes.org/ for details and rules.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (May 5, 2009) - Elite athletes from the Americas and Caribbean nations will gather in the heartland of the United States for the 2009 ITU Pan American Triathlon Confederation Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., on May 16.

The elite draft-legal Olympic distance championship races are part of the weekend of activities at the Boathouse International Triathlon. Sprint distance junior and age group races are also on the schedule. A total prize purse of $30,000 will be awarded in the elite division.

The race also kicks off the five-race USA Triathlon Twenty-12 Elite Series, the first year in a build up to the 2012 London Olympic Games.

"This is a great opportunity for athletes from all of the PATCO countries to come together and compete and form new friendships," said USA Triathlon Sport Performance Director Scott Schnitzspahn. "We look forward to hosting this event where PATCO athletes can earn valuable points for the ITU World Cup and World Championship Series entries down the line."

The participant list for U.S. athletes includes several from the USAT National Teams program, including Sara McLarty, Julie Ertel, Jasmine Oeinck, Becky Lavelle, Jillian Petersen, Hunter Kemper, Matt Reed, Brian Fleischmann, Ethan Brown, Matt Chrabot, and Tim O'Donnell. The race begins off the docks of Chesapeake Boathouse with a one lap, 1.5k swim in the Oklahoma Rivers. Athletes will then bike 40k, four laps north and south up Lincoln Boulevard circling the Oklahoma State Capitol. The race ends with a 10k, four lap run along the River Trails west of the Boathouse.

Trips for Kids Reaches 50,000 Underserved Youth in 20 Years of Hosting Mountain Bike Rides

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - April 23, 2009 - Trips for Kids (TFK) today announced it has taken 50,000 underserved urban youth on mountain bike rides since its inception more than 20 years ago.

"I'm proud that our efforts have helped thousands of young people experience the world's natural beauty and the excitement of completing a physical challenge--and so many more still need our help," said Marilyn Price, founding director of Trips for Kids.

"There are more young people than ever who need to get outside, understand how to take care of our environment, spend a day with caring, supportive adults, and get tired from good, enjoyable exercise."

More than 60 chapters advance the TFK mission. Located in a variety of communities, the groups identify at-risk youth and work through local youth services agencies to help them. Chapters are formed by a variety of individuals and organizations including environmental centers, schools, public health agencies, after-school learning centers, bike advocacy clubs, and non-profits like the YMCA, Boy Scouts, and Girls & Boys Clubs.

In many cases the kids they serve have never visited the nearby parks and outdoor areas. TFK provides the bicycles, helmets and other equipment, along with a trained ride leader and adult volunteers.

The children who participate in the rides receive safety instructions and are paired with adult ride buddies. Throughout the ride they learn environmental awareness as well as nutrition and fitness tips. Many of the participants report that the TFK mountain bike rides teach them to set goals and achieve them.

It takes TFK chapter leaders, volunteers, bicycle industry sponsors and individual donors to make TFK rides successful. Visit the TFK website, www.tripsforkids.org, to learn more about the program and to find a local chapter.

About Trips for Kids

Trips for Kids is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization based in Marin County, California. With 60-plus chapters operating in the United States, Canada and Israel, Trips For Kids opens the world of cycling to at-risk youth through mountain bike rides and Earn-A-Bike programs. Trips for Kids started in 1988 as a grass roots effort by avid mountain biker, environmentalist and Mountain Bike Hall of Fame inductee Marilyn Price to provide inner-city youth a way to enjoy the outdoors and gain much-needed life skills.

Fueled by success in the San Francisco Bay Area, the national organization was launched in 1999 with the expanded mission to open as many chapters as possible in order to provide kids with lessons in personal responsibility, achievement and environmental awareness through the development of practical skills and the simple act of having fun through mountain biking.

World Triathlon Corporation Launches 2009 Charitable Auction on eBay

For a seventh consecutive year, World Triathlon Corporation will conduct its annual Ironman auction with eBay, designed to benefit a variety of charitable organizations worldwide. The Ironman Foundation has raised more than $2,500,000 through the initiative since its inception in 2003.

This year's auction will include four slots to the 2009 Ford Ironman World Championship taking place on October 10 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The auction will begin on Sunday, April 19 and will incorporate four phases with one slot available per week. The minimum bid for slots to the event will begin at $10,000.

In 2008, Ironman recognized a multitude of groups that lent their support in each of the event market in addition to those organizations located in the two World Championship host cities. For example, a donation of $50,000 was extended to Clearwater for Youth (CFY), an organization that celebrated 40 years of service last year. With a mission of building character through sports, CFY provides support to area youth programs and participants in need, allowing children from all levels of society to play and learn together.

Grants and donations were also made to the West Hawaii chapters of the following national organizations: The Ronald McDonald House, Boy Scouts of America, American Cancer Society and the Special Olympics, among others.

Additionally, more than $40,000 in cash and supplies will be provided to The Hospice of Kona, PATH (Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii) and Kamakana Children's Playground in Kailua-Kona. Details on the organizations are below:

The Hospice of Kona will receive gear and apparel for Camp Erin, a bereavement retreat for children who have lost a parent or sibling.

PATH, striving to promote active living in a healthy community, will be acquiring a cargo van for use with camps and clinics that promote a bicycle education program to local families.

Kamakana Children's Playground, located at Higashihara Park was created in 1997 and is in desperate need of repair. The children's area is now being refurbished and will include 2,200 sq. ft. playground.

In addition to the opportunity to compete at the 2009 Ford Ironman World Championship, winners will also receive private athlete registration in Kona and four VIP packages, including race-day passes and invitations to race-week functions.

Funding for the eBay auction does not have to be generated through one source, as fundraising efforts are acceptable. According to World Triathlon Corporation's President and CEO, Ben Fertic, all funds are tax-deductible and all proceeds go to The Ironman Foundation, which will in turn make donations to the organizations. Ironman covers all administrative costs to ensure all monies raised will directly benefit the selected charities.

To place a bid in this year's auction beginning on April 19, 2009, visit www.ironman.com. All athlete inquiries can be directed to kona@ironman.com.

2008 IM 70.3 World Champs on TV in April

For immediate release

Tune in Sunday, April 12, 2009, as NBC showcases the 2008 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3, presented by Ford, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. EDT.

Shot on location on November 8, 2008, in Clearwater, Florida, one of the world's top beach destinations, the broadcast leads viewers on a fast-paced journey consisting of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run. The swim takes place in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, while the bike and run portions cover the picturesque areas throughout Pinellas County as well as the beaches of Clearwater.

Watch as New Zealand's Terenzo Bozzone and U.S. athlete Joanna Zeiger claim World Championship titles. After taking first place at three 70.3 events in 2008, Bozzone battles some of the sport's best--including 2007 World Champion Andy Potts, Chris Legh, Oscar Galindez and Fraser Cartmell--to claim his first World Championship title with a time of 3:40:10.

Zeiger, also celebrating three 70.3 wins in 2008, dominates the half-marathon and beats a competitive field consisting of 2007 World Champion Mirinda Carfrae, Erika Csomor and Becky Lavelle to finish in 4:02:49. Both Bozzone and Zeiger set world records, eclipsing 2007 course times in more than two and four minutes, respectively.

In addition to a competitive professional field, nearly 1,200 age group athletes, ranging in age from 18 to 79 years old, crossed the finish line at the 2008 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3. Among them were inspirational athletes such as:

• Brian Boyle, 22, who was in a car accident that almost took his life. He died eight times on the operating table and was told he may never walk again. Boyle, a talented collegiate swimmer, recovered and went on to challenge himself by participating in the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. Boyle earned another World Championship finish at the 2008 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3. With a goal of returning to Kona in 2009, Boyle plans to continue participating in Ironman and 70.3 events across the country.

• Team Hoyt, a father-and-son team that has completed nearly 1,000 athletic events, including Hawaii's Ironman World Championship and the Boston Marathon, continued to inspire viewers as they cross the finish line in 8 hours, 14 minutes and 36 seconds.

• Ricky James, 20, who was involved in a motocross accident four years ago that left him paralyzed. After bike modifications, he has continued racing on the motocross scene. In 2008, James not only finished the Ford Ironman World Championship, but also added to his long list of accomplishments by completing the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in 5 hours, 30 minutes and 27 seconds.

Also in the spotlight are Kate Conklin and Robert MacLachlan. Conklin, 33, reaches the finish line despite her debilitating condition, Erythromelalgia. MacLachlan, 70, participates alongside his son in an effort to improve his quality of life.

For the second consecutive year, viewers will have the unique opportunity to view the 2009 Ironman Lottery winners. All 150 U.S. winners of coveted slots to the world's most challenging endurance event, the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, will be displayed at the end of the show. The sneak peek comes just days before the official announcement goes live on Ironman's website, www.ironman.com on Wednesday, April 15 at 12:00 p.m. EDT.

The NBC broadcast of the Ironman World Championship has received numerous accolades throughout the last two decades, including more than 50 Emmy nominations, 15 Emmy awards, three prestigious CINE Golden Eagle awards and five International Monitor Awards for Global Excellence.
New Ironman Finish Line Policy Bans Family and Friends

Press Release

World Triathlon Corporation Announces Finish Line Policy
New Finish line policy to take effect at Ironman 70.3 California

Published Wednesday, March 11, 2009

World Triathlon Corporation will implement a new finish line policy for all domestic Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events. Beginning with Ironman 70.3 California (April 4, 2009), friends and/or family members will no longer be permitted to cross the finish line or enter the finish chute with participating athletes.

"Safety is paramount at all Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events. Allowing non-participants to cross the finish line compromises event security, serves as a distraction to other finishers and disrupts our secure finish line operations. Family and friends are encouraged to reunite with their athlete in the photo/post-race area just beyond the finish line," said Steve Meckfessel, Ironman's Chief Operating Officer.

In response to ongoing athlete feedback, Ironman has chosen to adopt this policy to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers and fans. As with other sporting events, Ironman strives to provide a competitive and memorable event, one that allows all parties to enjoy the entire Ironman Experience.

This policy will allow each competitor adequate time to celebrate their accomplishment without interfering with other finishers. Athletes who choose not to respect the new policy will receive an automatic disqualification (DQ).

World Triathlon Corporation Launches Ironman Executive Challenge

March 3, 2009 (Tampa, FL) -- World Triathlon Corporation, owner of the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 brands, announces the launch of the Ironman Executive Challenge (XC).

The program targets top-level executives and provides its members with the opportunity to compete at the following sold-out events in 2009: Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene, Frankfurter Sparkasse Ironman Germany, Ford Ironman Lake Placid, Ford Ironman Louisville, Ford Ironman World Championship (by qualification only) and Ford Ironman Arizona.

The mission of the Ironman Executive Challenge (XC) is to provide the ultimate Ironman experience for the world's top business leaders. This exclusive, member's-only program offers privileges such as guaranteed entry into select Ironman events, VIP treatment for athletes and their families, first-class accommodations, personalized coaching, interaction with Ironman icons and much more. Members of Ironman XC will also have the opportunity to win multiple coveted slots to the renowned Ford Ironman World Championship, in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

"We are pleased to announce this new program, one that showcases the synergies of today's most passionate business leaders and the unique qualities of Ironman. We look forward to providing a group of select athletes with a one-of-a-kind experience, while allowing them with the opportunity to compete among their peers at the world's most challenging endurance event," said Ironman Executive Challenge Director, Troy Ford.

To kick-off the program's inaugural year, all participating members of Ironman XC will be eligible for the Kona Personal Record (PR) Challenge. One Ford Ironman World Championship slot will be awarded at each event to the athlete who has most significantly improved his or her PR time.

Additionally, Ironman will establish customized age divisions at each event to determine distribution of Ford Ironman World Championship slots. Every group will be allocated with one World Championship slot and it will be awarded to the winner of each age group. If a particular age group exceeds five XC Series participants, an additional slot will be added, totaling two for that group, and a second slot will be awarded to the second place finisher within that age group. Each event within the XC Series will award a minimum of two Ford Ironman World Championship slots (in addition to the Kona PR Challenge slot).

XC Series' athletes awarded a Ford Ironman World Championship slot through standard qualifying procedures are ineligible for the aforementioned programs. World Championship slots are non-transferable and may not be deferred to another year. Athletes who are awarded slots to Kona must participate in the XC Series' Ford Ironman World Championship package and compete for title of Ironman XC Series' Athlete of the Year.

Click here to submit an application for membership to the Ironman Executive Challenge (XC). This is shaping up to be one of the most exciting weekends in triathlon!

The team relay format sounds pretty exciting and spectator friendly. Taken to the age-group level, there could be some really cool races designed around this concept. Read the full release below:

Press Release

February 25, 2009 -- The International Triathlon Union (ITU) is pleased to announce the location for the 2009 ITU Triathlon Team World Championships will be in West Des Moines, Iowa, USA on June 28 in conjunction with the Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup. This is the first time a team world championship has been held on U.S. soil and the first time in ITU history that the teams will be mixed. In total, the weekend will boast $1 million USD in prize money.

"The team world championships are crucial in ITU's quest to have a team event on the Olympic programme," said ITU Secretary General Loreen Barnett. "Recently the IOC Executive Board approved the mixed relay for the Youth Olympic Games, signifying the IOC's support of the concept. It also represented an important step forward for the team relay's inclusion in future Olympic Games"

The ITU Triathlon Team World Championships will consist of a 4 x mixed relay. Each federation will enter a team consisting of two women and two men. Each member will complete a super sprint triathlon (250m swim, 7km bike and 1.8km run) in succession, with the first team across the line representing the top triathlon nation in the world. A $70,000 USD prize purse will be available for the top three teams (1st - $40,000, 2nd - $20,000, 3rd - $10,000).

"We would be delighted to be the first to stage the mixed relay format at a world championship level. The quick pace of the race makes it especially exciting to watch. It's a real crowd pleaser," said Andy McCann, Hy-Vee Triathlon co-chair.

The Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup will be staged on Saturday, June 27, and the ITU Triathlon Team World Championships on Sunday, June 28.

The million dollar weekend will continue to be showcased in 2009 with U.S. national television coverage on NBC.
ING Bay to Breakers: New Safety Measures and Alcohol Policies for Race
Press Release

SAN FRANCISCO -- The ING Bay to Breakers and San Francisco police and City officials have announced several new policies that will be enforced to improve the safety and enjoyment of the race for runners, spectators and neighbors during this year's 98th running of the ING Bay to Breakers on Sunday, May 17.

"We have listened closely to concerns from race participants, residents along the race course, and civic leaders. In response to safety, logistical and trash issues, we are instituting new policies in cooperation with the San Francisco Police Department and City officials," said Angela Fang, general manager of the race.

"The ING Bay to Breakers is about promoting community, physical fitness, and giving athletes and fitness enthusiasts the chance to compete in and enjoy one of the most exhilarating and scenic footraces in the world. We're still focused on the fun, vitality and unique culture of the race - we're just removing the alcohol and the hazards. We feel that these changes will enhance the race experience for all involved," Fang added.

The following changes have been made to the 98th ING Bay to Breakers, as well as future races:

Zero tolerance policy on alcohol. Anyone openly drinking alcohol or displaying public drunkenness will be subject to fines and prosecution.

All wheeled objects and floats are prohibited. Inappropriate equipment on the streets is dangerous and can prevent runners and walkers from completing the race in a timely manner.

Leave no footprint. Additional dumpsters will be placed along the course for trash.

"We are all working together to enforce these new zero tolerance policies," said Jim Lynch, assistant chief of the San Francisco Police Department. "We want to ensure that the 2009 ING Bay to Breakers is a safe and enjoyable event for everyone - race participants, families, residents and spectators included."

"The North Panhandle Neighborhood Association is supportive of the ING Bay to Breakers race instituting a zero tolerance policy for alcohol possession and public drinking. We want to see the race get back to its roots and focus on the sport of running, the celebration of San Francisco's diversity and the spirit of community. In recent years, the level of alcohol consumption has overpowered the event and made the race displeasing for the neighborhoods through which it runs," said Kevin Rafter, president of the association.

Fang called the ING Bay to Breakers race "a celebration of the unique spirit of San Francisco. Thousands of costumed participants, families and neighborhood residents from diverse communities come to cheer on professional and recreational runners and walkers," she said. "In keeping with both the integrity of the athletic competition and the fun, welcoming spirit of the race, we ask that participants and spectators respect the race route and the communities along the race course. This means leaving alcohol and wheeled floats at home, and putting trash and recyclables in their proper place."

In further support of the community, ING Bay to Breakers pays the City of San Francisco several hundred thousand dollars in fees, generates millions of dollars in travel and tourism and creates hundreds of event-related jobs for local community youth groups and schools. The race also makes significant contributions to a number of local charities.

The race draws approximately 65,000 participants and 100,000 spectators to San Francisco. The ING Bay to Breakers 12K was recently named by ESPN as one of the "101 things all sports fans must experience before they die," and already more than 6,000 registrants have signed up for the May 17 race. Fang assures that by adopting these new measures, "we are ensuring that runners, walkers and spectators enjoy a safe, fun event."

About ING Bay to Breakers 12K
Now in its 98th year, the ING Bay to Breakers 12K, a Running USA Founding Member, is one of the world's largest and oldest footraces, held annually in San Francisco, California. The name reflects the course which takes tens of thousands of participants from the northeast end of downtown San Francisco, near The Embarcadero (the "bay" side of the city), to the west end of the city and the "breakers" of Ocean Beach. The 7.46 mile (12 kilometer) race features world-class athletes in addition to costumed runners and "fun-loving" folks out for a great day of running and walking through San Francisco.
Press Release

SAN DIEGO - Celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2009,
the Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series has announced its event dates for
the year. The 2009 schedule, which will kick off with an event
in Richmond, VA in May, will also include four new events in Nashville,
Detroit, San Diego and Phoenix. Muddy Buddy sold out eight of its nine
events in 2008, and is looking forward to a record year in repeat cities
as well as successful debuts in the four new markets.

The series, which hosts between 900 and 1,400 teams
of two at each event, is known for its unique six- to seven-mile courses
that require participants to 'leapfrog' between biking and running as
they traverse trails and obstacles. The course ends with a 60-foot-long
mud pit, which contestants crawl through together before crossing the
finish line. Registration for all events in the 2009 Muddy Buddy Ride
and Run Series is currently open online at: MuddyBuddy.com

Kids between the ages of 4 and 12 can join in the fun
with the adults, as a part of the Paul Mitchell Mini Muddy Buddy. At each
event, kids can sign up to complete a short obstacle course and slither
through the same mud pit as the adults. Five dollars of each registration
fee for the Mini Muddy Buddy benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

"These events are a great way for the whole family
to get out and enjoy an exciting, unique event," said Bob Babbitt,
founder of the Muddy Buddy series. "Some participants even dress
up in costume - the courses are appropriate for any ability level, and
the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for anyone looking to have a great time
and get muddy!"

The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) Muddy Buddy Challenge, +presented by Land
Rover Certified Pre-Owned+, provides an easy way for able-bodied Muddy
Buddy participants to help people with physical challenges. Funds raised
through the CAF Muddy Buddy Challenge help purchase the adaptive athletic
equipment and support necessary for challenged athletes to create an active
lifestyle that includes fitness and competitive athletics. Land Rover,
one of the event's longtime sponsors, aided the cause for the 2008 series
by donating $9,000.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website or call 800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them but retain the "Best By/Sell By" code found on the back of the package. Consumers with questions or who would like a refund may contact Clif Bar & Company at 1-800-CLIFBAR (1-800-254-3227). Details also can be found at www.clifbar.com.

"With an abundance of caution and given the FDA's ongoing investigation of PCA, we're doing all we can to ensure consumer safety and trust," said Gary Erickson, owner and founder of Clif Bar & Company.
