Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series Unveils Four New Events for 2009

Press Release

SAN DIEGO - Celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2009,

the Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series has announced its event dates for

the year. The 2009 schedule, which will kick off with an event

in Richmond, VA in May, will also include four new events in Nashville,

Detroit, San Diego and Phoenix. Muddy Buddy sold out eight of its nine

events in 2008, and is looking forward to a record year in repeat cities

as well as successful debuts in the four new markets.

The series, which hosts between 900 and 1,400 teams

of two at each event, is known for its unique six- to seven-mile courses

that require participants to 'leapfrog' between biking and running as

they traverse trails and obstacles. The course ends with a 60-foot-long

mud pit, which contestants crawl through together before crossing the

finish line. Registration for all events in the 2009 Muddy Buddy Ride

and Run Series is currently open online at: MuddyBuddy.com

Kids between the ages of 4 and 12 can join in the fun

with the adults, as a part of the Paul Mitchell Mini Muddy Buddy. At each

event, kids can sign up to complete a short obstacle course and slither

through the same mud pit as the adults. Five dollars of each registration

fee for the Mini Muddy Buddy benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

"These events are a great way for the whole family

to get out and enjoy an exciting, unique event," said Bob Babbitt,

founder of the Muddy Buddy series. "Some participants even dress

up in costume - the courses are appropriate for any ability level, and

the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for anyone looking to have a great time

and get muddy!"

The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) Muddy Buddy Challenge, +presented by Land

Rover Certified Pre-Owned+, provides an easy way for able-bodied Muddy

Buddy participants to help people with physical challenges. Funds raised

through the CAF Muddy Buddy Challenge help purchase the adaptive athletic

equipment and support necessary for challenged athletes to create an active

lifestyle that includes fitness and competitive athletics. Land Rover,

one of the event's longtime sponsors, aided the cause for the 2008 series

by donating $9,000.

2009 Muddy Buddy Ride and Run

Series

Sunday, May 3 - Richmond, VA

Sunday, May 9 - Orlando, FL

Sunday, May 17 - Austin, TX

Sunday, May 31 - Nashville*, TN

Sunday, June 7 - San Jose, CA

Saturday, June 20 - Atlanta, GA

Sunday, July 12 - Detroit*, MI

Sunday, August 2 - Chicago, IL

Sunday, August 16 - Boulder, CO

Sunday, October 25 - Dallas, TX

Sunday, November 1 - Los Angeles, CA

Sunday, December 6 - San Diego*, CA

Sunday, December 13 - Phoenix*, AZ

*New event

Just recently I have started to think about becoming one myself.”

• Great Quotes

"You only ever grow as a human being if you're outside your comfort zone."

• August Miles

”This August I ran 159.1 miles! Phew. Would have been 160 but my 5K messed that up a little. Otherwise I ran all the miles my program called for. I'm pretty psyched because this is, by far, my highest mileage month ever.”

• distance or speed??

"Ok, what exactly should I be focusing on first...I am interested in preparing myself to run in 5k's & 10k's next year, but want to make sure I am good and ready.”

• Activity after a marathon

”Hi, everyone! I'm a first timer, and I find all the comments here in the community extremely helpful! Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone make comment on what to do immediately after you complete a marathon.”

• Triathlon Books

“I'm just starting out in the world of Triathlon and I'm wondering what book(s) are the best to get and read? I've heard perhaps the TriathletesTraining Bible by Joe Friel but I'm not to sure. I want to most up to date training information and triathlon information possible.”

I'm not an "Ultra" guy, but I do all my running on fields and through forests. I need some new shoes but don't really have much to choose from at stores here, so I'm thinking of going mail order and would really like it to work out on the first attempt, which is why I'm asking here.”

• Beer for my horses, whiskey for my men!

“It has been a while since we skirted this topic and with the many new faces I decided to start a good beer thread. Tonight I had a beer that I picked up in California. It's a brew I have never heard of but man is it good.”

• Everyone's next race?

“What are others planning on running next? My next one that I call official is in Vermont at the end of January(I mean July). I plan on running a fast 2 mile race on July 4th. but the big event is in Vermont.”

• Wish me luck at the U.S. women's Sprint Tri this Sunday

“I'm as ready as one can be for this triathlon on Sunday. I'm excited about it. My goal is to make it under 1 1/2 hours. I can do the swim in 12 minutes or less, bike in under 40 and run in 30. The transitions will get me as I have to go to the bathroom more often and think I'll have to go each transitions. LOL!”

• How can I swim faster?

“I've done about 5 sprint tri's and I'm really slow on the swim. I can do the distance. I don't know if I should focus on kicking more or there is something about my form, or I'm just not strong enough.”

• Too soon to run a 1/2 marathon?

“I am on week five of the couch to 5K from coolrunning.com. There is a half marathon on Oct 11 I want to run. That would mean I would finish my couch to 5K program the third week of July and jump right into the build up for the half-marathon.”

Mark Your Race Calendars

In her article "[Ten Tips for the New Year|http://www.active.com/triathlon/Articles/Ten_tips_for_the_New_Year.htm]," Active Expert Gale Bernhardt's first recommendation is: Set a Goal.

What better way to give yourself something to work for in 2008 than to sign up for a race? But be aware, some pre-planning could save you a little money. Many races that already have registration open will be raising their prices beginning January 1.

For triathletes, that includes races such as the Accenture Chicago Triathlon, Vineman Ironman 70.3, Big Kahuna Triathlon (70.3-distance) and the Hy-Vee Triathlon in Des Moines, Iowa--which also happens to be the final Olympic qualifier for the 2008 U.S. triathlon team.

Other races will be opening registration right after the New Year. This includes the Superfrog Triathlon (70.3-distance), the 5430 Sports triathlon race series and the World Famous Mud Run, part of the Camp Pendleton (California) Hard Corps Race Series. On January 3, registration for opens to USA Triathlon members, with non-member registration opening the next day.

Now is the perfect time to find out the registration details of your favorite race and add it to this list. Runners, cyclists, adventure racers, swimmers and anyone who wants others to be a part of an awesome event can add it to the comments section below.

What's going to be your motivation to train in 2008?
