Beautiful Day

I went for a run yesterday with a co-worker around Deer Lake in Burnaby; it was a beautiful place to run and right across the road from the office. The ducks were out, the turtles were sunning themselves on a log, and everything was so green. I should have taken a picture to put in my blog! I find that it is so much more enjoyable running in a beautiful natural setting vs. running on the neighborhood street or on a treadmill - thank goodness winter is over!

I'm back...

I have been out of touch again. This time due to traveling schedule. I was making rounds visiting with Family in Edmonton for last 3 weeks. I just got back the other day. My running schedule suffered while  I was  traveling; my routines went out the window and so did my baby boy's routine. Back in town, I'm trying to get Matteus to his regular nap times and night sleep time. We will get there...



Meantime, I'm back to my running schedule. I went out for a run this morning. It was so nice to be back in warm weather. I can appreciate it so much more after my visit in Edmonton. As I was leaving on Sunday, it was cold and snowing heavily. They had to deice the plain before the take off. Kudos to the ladies who run in this type of weather. I admit, I am a wimp when it comes to cold!!!

The final count down...

WOW! I can not believe how fast the time has gone by! I will be doing my race in just 2 weeks. I am getting excited and nervous. I am excited for the race to begin but nervous because I really want to do well. This has been so great. I have really taken a liking to running and the thought of doing more runs in the future is an exciting prospect. I have lost weight and gotten more toned. The best part is feeling great!! I love the way I feel after a good run and I can feel my legs getting antsy when I miss a work out...a good sign to me. {v}


I am really going to be pushing myself until friday before the race. Then I will rest up saturday and be ready to go on mothers day! It is a great Mothers day gift to myself. Being a mom you often( more like always) put yourself at the end of the line. By the time I get around to doing something for myself I no longer have the time or the energy. This experience has made me take the needed time to do something for myself to make me feel better. In the end it makes me a better mom because I feel refreshed and vented of the stress that gets piled on daily. It has taught me that life will still have out of control weeks where we won't know which way is up but trying to get that time in for fitness on a regular basis is so important! Not only for my health but often for my sanity. LOL!



Keep up the great work we are almost there!!

Preparation for the 5K

Hey girls, what are you all doing to prep for the big race day, now that we are less than 2 weeks away?


I haven't been running much the past 2 weeks so I'm coming up with a strict schedule for the next 13 days to make sure I'm getting my runs in. I'm also going to time myself to see how much time I'll need on race day. I have a couple of friends joining me on the Mother's Day 5K so we're also planning to run the course before the big day, so we know what to expect.


What's everyone else doing?

Pregnant Training

Well ladies - I see that all of you are doing FABULOUS and I am so proud of all of you! Pregnancy has been treating me well have been walking a lot - not running as much as I had previously thought that I would.  I am getting really excited for my event -- my daughter will be with me with stroller in tow.  I have had lots of support from friends and family in my area and have started a group of waling buddies with pregnant people I know. 


I have been working and traveling a ton over the last few weeks, so I apologize for not checking in sooner.  It seems as though that by the time I am done with meetings, all I can do is think about eating and then going straight to bed.  I must say that by the end of a long work day (which is everyday), I am definitely tired and ready to close the computer and crawl into bed.  Now that my travel has mellowed out for the next two weeks or so, I will definitely be writing more

getting out of a rut

The past week or so I have been in a rut. I have been tired with sick kids and now spring break, which is almost at an end. I seem to only have the energy to run a mile. I start out tired and then I know I still have to go to work and don't want to use my entire reserve.!!  However I am planning to do a 5k run this weekend to see where I am. Hopefully this will give me a kick in the butt to get back on track. I don't want to show up for the mothers day 5k  unprepared or unable to run the entire thing. Next week my schedule go back to the normal routine so this should help as well.



   I have to say that progress has been slow but steady. I am excited to become a better runner! I have already committed to doing the wharf to wharf which is a 10k  in Santa Cruz in July and I hope to be able to do a marathon next year. These are things I never thought that I would be doing. I am grateful for the opportunity I have had here at It has help me to get a physical goal and has helped me work at it  with support from professionals and people just like me, and daily check ins.!!  When I started I had never ran and now I know I can run at least 2.5 miles and hope to be doing three soon! It has also helped my Family. My husband, who is diabetic, now walks whenever I have to run, My son has made his own work out calendar like the one I follow and my daughter is going to run the kids race before mine. The other two girls like to excercise next to me and copy my stretching moves. I can't wait to encourage them as they grow to be active. This has been and entire lifestyle change for all of us. Thanks Active team and members for helping me along this journey! I can't wait for race day!!!!

I hit a milestone on Saturday - 15 minutes running without a break! We then took a 1 min walking break, and did it all again x 2, so a total of 48 min with only 3 min walking. I sometimes cannot believe I can run 15 min - when I started in January, I was running about 1 1/2 min at a time and I was winded! I am not a fast runner (like Lori, my pace was more like a jog too!) but the point is to NOT walk during those 15 min I'm supposed to be running, so I'm proud I've achieved that goal.

I've now signed up for a 5K in June in Vancouver - it's the Scotiabank 5K and a team of us from work is doing it together. I've got my fundraising website all set up - it's in case anyone's interested We're raising money for a great cause, Kidsport, that provides funding to kids who can't afford to participate in organized sports.

Survived the move...

I've been out of commission for a while as we moved last week, from a townhouse to a house and I spent most of last week unpacking, painting and cleaning! It was hard to fit in anything else, besides taking care of the kids, and I fell into bed exhausted each night. I managed to fit in a run the night before the move, but other than that last week's exercise was lifting boxes and rolling paint!


Now that it's over, I'm getting back on track - it's a challenge sometimes to get back into a regular fitness program when something like a move (or any other change to the norm) takes you off your regular schedule. But I'm determined to get back to it - gotta be ready for the 5K in less than a month!!

Running update

Everyone is being so supportive. Thank you ladies. As to my training the first couple of times it was rather slow going. I started with 20 min runs first. But now I am back on truck, running 30 to 40 min. I also started running the hills. My race includes a couple of those so I figured I better get on it. I do have hard time keeping up with the schedule of 4 times a week and I often end up running 3 times a week .I let go of the idea that I have to do the training exactly as it was designed and instead be happy with what I accomplish that week. I tell myself that i need to run at least once during the week days a nd once on the weekend. Usually after my first run of the week I end up feeling so good afterwards that I feel inspired to make it happen sooner rather than later and end up putting more runs into the week this way. I guess, this is my little self pep talk.   Additionally, having this break in training helped my knees to recover; I haven't had any knee pain since I started training again!



I did my run this morning already and it felt really good!
