Running Gear

A range of guys dressed to snowshoe race.....

My Notes:

You don't need fancy gear and high tech fibers to be comfortable

Dress in layers as the weather requires

Don't overdress, this is a common mistake

On a cold day you should be cool at the start, if you are warm before you start then you are over-dressed.

Wear clothes that are loose and comfortable. In nice weather shorts and a t-shirt should do in cooler temps you could add a long-sleeved shirt or a light wind-breaker.

Dave,

We just got 2 feet of snow in Vancouver, and although I'm sure it won't last here very long (it often warms up and the rains washes the snow away) I was wondering if you had any advice for running in slippery conditions?  I'm used to skating, but obviously that is very different.

All the best over the holidays!!

Cheers,

Scotty

We also got 2 feet of snow here in New England.  You'd want to ease your pace up a bit as the footing can be quite tricky.  The other thing you want to be very careful of is poor drivers.  With snowbanks they would have less chance of seeing you.  Always run against traffic so you can see what is coming at you.  An alternative would be to have some snowshoes so that you could workout off-road, or you could use a treadmill if one is available.
