True. Although it is motivating we should probably learn to do with out...especialy since some of these runs don't allow headphones for safety reasons...then what will motivate you?

i agree too!...i personally gave up the ipod a few years ago and much prefer the sounds of nature, but i'm one of those types who if i listen to a song just before heading out the door, it gets stuck in my brain and can't get it out of my head...bababatta bum ba ba ( my attempt at theme from rocky).

Thanks for the tip - I agree that when you're running solo it's better to keep the music off. Or, keep just one earphone in so you can be aware of your surroundings with the other. Even running on trails is better in a group if you want to keep the music on - you never know if someone is coming up behind you, or a bear is in the trees (happens sometimes here in summer/fall in the Vancouver suburbs!)
