For a 7:30 a.m. race start, you will likely be getting up at 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. At that time, enjoy a little something to eat --what ever will feel comfortable and settle well. Suggestions include: granola bar, bagel, English muffin, banana, oatmeal, cereal. (You should have practiced pre-exercise fueling during your training, so you know what works for your body.)
If you know your stomach will be too nervous or still asleep, then eat your breakfast the night before, in the form of a bedtime snack. This food helps maintain a normal blood sugar level, so you feel alert, energetic and will have a good time.
Have fun, and learn from the experience, so next time you will be more confident on how to fuel.

PS. I have a new book "Nancy Clark's Food Guide for New Runners: Getting It Right From the Start" (http://www.nancyclarkrd.com). You might find it helpful.
I'd do a pretty much normal week, just drop the intensity a bit. Sleep is VERY important for any race. You probably won't sleep well the night before (I've race over 1,000 times and I never get a good rest the night before), so put some bed time in the bank! I try to get an extra hour the three or four days prior to the "night before the race". With that early a race I'd make sure to eat well the day before and just have enough so that you are not hungry at the start (or worse at the 2m mark!). Race morning I always have a couple fo gel's and my normal coffee. Also make sure you stay hydrated during the days leading up.
Best of luck!
Like Ronnie said, the race is the LIFE Sneaker Challenge at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9. Plan to be there around 6:30 a.m.---plenty of time for you to check in and pick up your bib (your race number). You should be eating and warming up your muscles.
Let's plan to meet around 7 a.m. for pictures and a team pow wow before the race ![]()

Our 5K is called the LIFE Sneaker Challenge - the link is on the WWTGA Home Page - www.sneakerchallenge.com It gives a map of the run - I sure hope it's flat!! It says the race begins at 7:30 am but I've never run a race so I don't know if we have to be there by then, we start, whatever. I'm sure we'll get further directions. I'm hoping too that Dave and Nancy can give us some pre-race pointers. Rest? Run? What to eat?
