res·o·lute -adjective: firmly resolved or determined; set in purpose or opinion.
When I was home over the holidays I spent a great deal of time thinking about how the last year went, my life in its current sense and how I plan to spend the next year--all worthy components of end-of-the-year rumination. I feel really good about getting after the goals I've put forth for myself, both because I have set S.M.A.R.T goals and because I know I'm not tackling them alone.
Today I visited one of the Chicago area's Fleet Feet locations. I bought my last pair of running shoes from them and would highly recommend for anyone to go there--they are the running specialists! I purchased a new pair (of which were WAY overdue) and went out for a little run. It was a beautiful day in Chicago; a record high of 60 degrees was set beating the 101-year-old record of 54 degrees!
It's always a little disappointing when I start heading down the path that I'm not able to keep the same pace I was able to as a student-athlete and that it will take a while to get back there. But instead of letting this discourage me like I have in the past, I've been reminding myself that I'm still out there, being active, on the move. I'm moving. And as long as I'm doing that I know I'll continue to improve and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
Also, one last thing that I think is worth sharing: my roommate made pizza rolls this evening as we sat down to watch the American Gladiator premier. I checked the bag to see how many were in one serving. SIX! Only six little bite-sized rolls. When we used to make this in our apartment sophomore year we would all easily eat three times that without thinking twice. Not the healthiest dinner (Beck, you know how much I love them), but I did limit myself to one serving and added a side of steamed stir fry veggies. Every little bit counts!
