Horrible Weather

Posted by lilly_beth Mar 25, 2008

I had to cancel my run this evening because of the weather. It's very disappointing. The snow just won't stop coming.

I ran this evening for approx 8k with a time of 52:56 minutes and it felt good.  It was cool but not cold.  I was tired when I started, but felt great when I finished.

Wow, what a fantastic run!  I wish that could happen all the time.

I have to say running  really shapes the legs and butt better than any other exercise I have ever tried. I play a lot of hockey and did a lot of step aerobics (over 10 years) and no results. But by jogging over the last 6 months, my legs smaller and for the first time since I have been about 14 years old my cellulite has reduced significantly.

I'm sure that with weight training I would have achieved better results. However,  I find being in a gym painfully boring and consequently too high a price to pay for better legs.

Dieting in Perspective

Posted by lilly_beth Mar 1, 2008

At this time I'm very preoccupied with achieving a healthy lifestyle. However, it's important to remember that life is much more than that.

Luke 12:23 (New International Version)

Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes

Jesus is certainly my food for life.

John 6:55 (New International Version)

For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.

The lord is so good to me. He sees me through all my struggles. His grace gives my hope in all things. My love for him grows every day and in every way.

1 Peter 1:3

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

Biblical Musings on Food

Posted by lilly_beth Mar 1, 2008

You should give thanks for your food before receiving it.

Acts 27:35

After he said this, he took some bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat

Avoid fat.

Leviticus 7:23

Say to the Israelites: 'Do not eat any of the fat of cattle, sheep or goats.'

Fruits and Veggies are good.

Genesis 1:29

Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

  • Brush your teeth after eating. This will reduce your cravings, especially in the evening.

  • Chew your food 30 times a bite.

  • Never eat standing up or on the run. Always sit down.

Freezing

Posted by lilly_beth Mar 1, 2008

I had a difficult run today. It was soooooo cold ! and the wind was terrible. I was slipping on the ice and the snow really slowed me down. I was going for 10k but I only managed slow 6k. Other runners didn't seem to have a problem as they all passed me with little effort.

I had read an article that said all you need is long underwear and an extra sweatshirt. Well, I wore 2 pairs of sweatpants, 3 sweatshirts, a turtle neck, ski gloves and a ski hat and still froze. The temperature was around -14C with the windchill.

The weather is an obstacle right now. I really need to practice for my upcoming race in May but I'm not sure how. I hate treadmills, so that is not an option for me. What can I do to beat the bad weather?

There is snow in the forecast for the upcoming week
