Huh. That's an interesting theory you propose, Kevboss. I tried to look up 'seal ritual' on wikipedia, but only came up with an article on an Ingmar Bergman film instead. So is this resurrection like when Neo brought Trinity back to life in the third Matrix movie? Or is it more of a Highlander moment, where seals are actually immortal, but they need their brothers and sisters to restore their soul to the body?

Perhaps more research is needed...

That 'funeral' you saw was actually an ancient ritual in which a group of seals combines their power to actually resurrect another seal from the grips of death. Seals have been performing this ritual on the 16th day of every month. You have been lucky in witnessing such a miracle. Long live the seal (the singer).

Thanks gmon28. Unfortunately, the endurance sports world doesn't exactly allow athletes to pretty much stand in one spot and wave their arms (I'm thinking of first baseman, middle linebackers and hockey goalies...just kidding), so it does help to do "some" cardio routines. I like to mix things up as much as possible. While I respect those people who can go out long and never look back, I need a little spice in my workouts--hills, intervals, sprints to the nearest boulangerie...whatever. I find that livening things up a bit helps motivate me toward my next race. Good luck to you, as well. Let me know how things are going.

Jesse,
Thanks for writing, I've read all your entries and am thoroughly impressed by your dedication (especially since you admit to not being the greatest runner). It inspired to begin my own cardio routine (I DESPISE all that is cardio/running) to which I have been fairly faithful. Good luck in all your endeavors and happy racing.

Great job Jesse (and Emmy too)! I had fun running with you guys and from what I witnessed, you both have a sub 2-hour finish within you. Remember, don't do anything new or different before the race. Save those free samples for after you've completed your 13.1 Now get after it!

RE: Is My Bike Commuting Embarrassing You?

Jesse, I am very sorry that you had such a frustrating experience this morning. But, I believe a few things need to be said here. Please try to imagine these words being spoken/typed in a kind voice. That is how they are meant.

No driver is perfect. Not even you. Parents do a very, very difficult job every day. No days off. Most of us are functioning on years(equal to the age our children) of sleep deprivation. The reason we are late is mostly likely not because of a trip to starbucks, but rather due to some mishap at home.....such as Susie cutting a hole in Johhny's shirt while mom is grabbing her purse and keys.

I too was hard on parents before I had children. I regret it so much. Again, I'm sorry you had such an unfortunate experience today. Please try to be a little extra forgiving of drivers with children. In most cases, they really are doing the best they know how.

"there is no effort or parenting without error and shortcoming"
