I ran my first 5K last Sunday.
It was the Sleepy Hollow 5k here in Massapequa, Long Island. I began running again this past August.
I am currently running 4 miles 5 times a week. I run on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. 4 of my 5 weekly runs are on a treadmill. Saturday is my outside run day.
I set out for the 5K on a beautiful fall day here on "the Island". The race was half cross country and half pavement. I did not know what to expect.
The course was beautiful. The tress here on Long Island are just about at peak color
I usually run 5K on the treadmill in about 27 minutes. I wanted to have a reasonable goal. Being this was my first 5K I just hoped to finish under 30:00.
Well I accomplished my goal. My time was 26:22. I placed 120th out of 400 runners. I placed 7th in my age group. i was very happy. I have my first racing bib to start my collection.
The whole atmosphere of the race was great. The sponsors were awesome and the "after run refreshments" were delicious.
I have definitely been bitten by the running bug.
My next race is the LI Duck Waddle on Saturday 11/01 at Citibank Park in Central Islip.
