Girls may dig the long ballbut Little League baseball doesnt seem to have the same fascination. In an attempt to encourage less home runs and more triples and doubles, organizers for the Little League World Series are pushing back the fences by 20 feet for the Little League World Series in August. Check out the whole story here on Fox Sports.

Though home runs have remained constantthe distance of the fences have not. They were pushed back 5 feet in 1996 and now are being pushed back an additional 20 feet.

Does this imply that little leaguers are stronger than they were just 10 years ago? Or is this just an attempt to make games more exciting? Are players hitting more home runs because of better access to training and hitting education? Or is this a disturbing trend about how little leaguers are physically developing sooner than expected?

I don't think it's either one. I think the bats are changing so much that it's not even a challenge anymore.

I have to agree with "anonymous" the technology for bats play a big part.  The weight-to-lenght ratios are getting ridiulous. Minus 10 and up are very common now.  The national organizations such PONY, Babe Ruth/Ripken and Little League may need to ban these types of bats and require weight restrictions somewhat like the NCAA and NFHSAA did.  Put the hitting back into the hitter, not the bat.  The Rage.

Bats have come a long way in the last 10 years. With the age change this year look for more HR's as you will have more 13 year olds playing. They need to more the mound back next.
