The latest eteamz Snapshotz winner: My 14 year old son "borrowed" my camera to take pictures at a recent game. He took several really good pictures. This is one example.

Lamar Thomas' statements during the Miami/FIU fight on Saturday got him fired from his commentating job. The video was all over YouTube and you have to believe it's popularity lead to his firing.

A high school in Oscoda, Michigan has been informed by its school district that because of its inability to win a gameor even a single pointthat the teams remaining games will be cancelled.

The move had been opposed by players and parents but coach Kyle Tobin decided to make the move when he realized that his players were being physically dominated to such an extent to make injury a very real possibility. ESPN has the story.

But is it okay to ever quit? Does this send the wrong message to the players about competing? Or is it okay since football is such a physical sport. Tell us what you think!

[http://active.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/stoops.jpg]Nobody likes to lose. Especially when they think it was due to some 'questionable' officiating. But those connected to the Oklahoma Sooner football program have taken it a step further in the past week after their 'controversial' loss to the Oregon Ducks last Saturday. Just a few of the things that come out over the last couple of days:

*Oklahoma University President David Boren has called for the game to be officially expunged for the record.

*Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops has railed against the replay official being suspended for only one game--claiming that his entire season has been altered.

*Bob Stoops has also threatened to pull Oklahoma out of any Pac-10 contracted games until the officials are dealt with.

*Most distressing--the officials involved have receieved numerous death threats from Oklahoma fans.

Is this an overreaction by a football-crazed university and their fans? Or is this a grave injustice being dealt with in the only that it can be? And what does it say to young athletes about sportsmanlike conduct on and off the field? Tell us what you think...

I don't know if they can score touchdowns but members of the Centralia High School football team are certainly champions off the field. As players were unloading tires off of a truck they heard the screams of Ed Marsh who was pinned underneath a pickup truck and being attended emergency workers. So the players LIFTED the truck to free Marsh. ESPN has the [whole story|http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/news/story?id=2421339&campaign=rss&source=E

The NCAA may be in very big trouble. A class-action lawsuit has been brought against the mammoth athletic institution claiming that scholarships offered by universities were more than $2500 short of the actual cost of attendance---all because of mandates dictated by the NCAA.

It could mean millions of dollars in damages and brings up an interesting question regarding the role of money and amateur athletics. Should student athletes be provided the total cost of attendance to a university that often makes millions of dollars off of their efforts? Or should they be asked to shoulder any overages just as non-athletic students are asked to do with academic-based scholarships? Or does the fact that student athletes often have no time for a part-time job make their situation different?

Its the day after the super bowl---an important milestone in the fabric of American culture. Not just because nearly 1.4 million Americans will call in sick today but because around water coolers and playgrounds all over the country people are discussing the intricacies of the big game. And what are they talking about most? The gritty play of the Steelers? The weird Burger King commercials? No, they are talking about the officials.

In a phenomenon as rare as Kobe Bryant passing the ball the Seahawks won such critical categories as turnovers, total yards, and time of possession and still ended up losing the hallowed game. Many unbiased observers are saying the reason lies squarely on some of the worst officiating in Super Bowl history. And while many Seahawk players downplayed the effect of the officials, most Seahawk fans--including their coachstated simply that they were robbed.

Here at eteamz wed like to know if youve ever had a problem with an official during a game. What happened? What did you do about it? And short or replacing officials with robots what technological advances could we use to improve team sports and make sure the contest is decided by the participantsand not those who preside over it.

Click here to sound off on the issue of officials and team sports. And click here to check out what other members of the eteamz community are saying about the big game on our eteamz message boards.

College Football Goes Crazy!

Today is college footballs National Signing Day-or as it is otherwise known--the day that universities run around in a mad frenzy to sign that back-up middle linebacker from a small high school in Texas that nobody has ever heard of.

One of the most famous recruiting legends is that of an assistant coach in the SEC who offered everything but the kitchen sink to a high school senior from Mississippi. Unable to broker a deal, and with an impending deadline approaching, the coach offered the only thing he had left to give---an arranged marriage with his nineteen year old daughter. The young running back politely declined.

Here at eteamz we wanted to hear if you had any crazy recruiting stories of any kind youd like to share with us. Doesnt have to be NCAAit can be high school lacrosse or 4th grade club soccer or a hotly contested pre-school hopscotch tournament.

Click here to give us your best recruiting story and be sure to check out the football message boards as well.

Super Bowl is Super Madness

Well its that time of year again. Today is Super Bowl Media Day in Detroit---that annual celebration of superfluous hype surrounding one of the most celebrated television events in the world.

As football players from both the Seattle Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers answer hard-hitting questions like Do you like football? and Whats your favorite color? many are finding that the week prior to the big game can be one major distraction that has very little to do with the game itself.

But you dont have to be an overpaid NFL athlete to have off-the-field distractions. Here at eteamz wed like to know what kind of extra-curricular obstacles you've encountered in your team sports experience. And what did you do to overcome those distractions?

Click here to tell us your Super Sports Madness Story!

As more time goes by, students get craftier at their sideline chants. Have things gone to far in the 21st century? Is it time to draw the line?

For the most part, display of school spirit is non-violent. Plain and simple, it is a group of students getting emotional about their alma mater or favorite sports team. But, when things start getting negative and having emotional affects against athletes, coaches or students, should a line be drawn? And, if so, how do you go about it? If chants and rituals are allowed, how does one "police" the situation? They may start off nice, but in many cases things seem to scale in these situations.

School spirit is good and needed. How to vent it in a manner that's enjoyable for everyone?

There is a great discussion going on about this right now on the eteamz Football forum.
