Thank You, Mr. Armstrong

Posted by Ronan Pensec on Jul 7, 2009 10:48:11 AM

For only a few milliseconds Lance Armstrong will not wear the yellow jersey tomorrow!

There are no words to describe what Lance did today and what he is doing for the sport of cycling and for France.

We haven’t had such an exciting Tour de France to watch in years. I would be surprised to hear someone saying that he knows what is going to happen this year and who is going to wear the yellow jersey in Paris.

I haven’t seen so much crowd on the Tour in a decade and the TV audience is also very high compared to the previous years.

No doubt that this is for Lance and we must thank Mr. Armstrong because he is giving so much back to the Tour by just being himself.

The guy is more accessible than before and you can feel that he is super relaxed. This is one of the greatest champions of all time for those who had a doubt.

Thank you, Mr. Armstrong, for what you do for cycling! We need you!

Yours in Sport,

Ronan

Hell ya - Lance is doing great.  Team Astana is doing great despite the media-manufactured "tension."

Today was so exciting! Not only is Lance Armstrong bringing much needed awareness back to the tour, but also a greater awareness for cancer! I'm a 5,961 day survivor of 2nd degree cancer! THANK YOU LANCE ARMSTRONG! You are MY hero!

Ditto on Mr. Pensec's comments! I have been following the Grand Tours (TDF, Giro, Vuelta) for almost 40 yrs.  Lance's return has saved the TDF from doping scandals and lackluster performance that has plagued it for the past few years. Lance and Eddy Merckx will go down in history as the greatest cyclists to ever compete.

My husband and I will be in Paris to watch Lance win the over-all in Yellow.  Go Lance and thank you for bringing back TV for the month of July!  We'll be watching every night until we arrive at the Champs Elysee in Paris with you.  WOW, Astana looks awesome with Lance right back at the top where he belongs!

I also have to agree with Ronan, I am a 1 year Prostate Cancer Survivor (age 42) and watched Lance win the Tour in the past, but with not as much passion. I am using everything means I can to follow the Tour including twitter. Its becuase of Lance Armstrong and my battle with cancer that I have grown to love this sport and even went and bought a new Trek so I could ride. I appreciate all he has done for the sport of cycling and cancer awareness and wish him and his teammates the very best! Go Lance! LIVESTRONG!

As per Cody's comment, I don't think the tension on Astana is manufactured. Armstrong is in the process of taking over Contadors team. That's bound to cause some friction, not only between Contador and Armstrong, but it inevitably causes the other riders to choose sides. It's like the TMobile situation a few years back with Ullrich and Vinokourov.

On stage three not only did Armstrong get in the break with Popovich, he rode tempo on the front virtually more than any other rider in the group. If this is part of a bigger strategy (Armstrong wears them down, Contador delivers the knockout blow in the mountains) it's a good one, although I cannot imagine Armstrong being a part of any plan that does not involve him winning.

Having said all that, IF he wins in Paris it will be an incredible coup. I'll go out on what looks like a limb right now and predict he won't, but I predict there is a lot more drama yet to come from the Astana bus.

Leave it to Lance and his team to give us such nail biting excitement so early in the Tour! It was awesome to see them work together so smoothly, and that's what it takes to win anything in the Tour. I will be a 10 year breast cancer survivor next week and after I was diagnosed I read Lance's first book 'It's Not About the Bike", and that is what inspired me to push myself to try new things like running, then doing a 3-Day walk and then a sprint triathlon, the first of many to come. Then formed a team of women cancer survivor who want to try triathlons! I always thought I can do this, I beat cancer  so what's going to stop me now! There was one quote that has always stayed with me and says roughly " that when faced with the challenge of cancer you have to decide whether to give in or to fight like hell". I am so proud of what Lance is doing for cancer patients everywhere all over the USA and the world.

Lance's ride Monday with the break and yesterday in the TTT was fantastic. This has been one of the Best Tours to date . Everyday has been exciting. Lance's involvement  in the tour has helped raise the bar and I think the press is making much more of the drama on Astana then is. Remember this is a team sport. I can't wait until next week when I board a plane to ride Etape and then continue on and watch the pros ride the Alps, Ventoux and then into Paris
