Hiking in Daintree Rainforest

Posted by SD Tri-girl on Dec 4, 2007 8:36:00 PM

After diving we were ready for a change of scenery and Port Douglas provided that.  It lies next to an amazing rainforest area called Daintree Rainforest in a section in the north called Cape Tribulation.  This was wild country at it's finest.  Lush wetlands, vines that grow forever, different rainforest animals and lots of exploring to do. We drove up there, crossed over on a car ferry and went for a day hike through the forests.  We saw lots of cassowary warning signs, but not a single bird.

Here are my friends hiking through through the forest. At one point we came to a fresh water river and took a refreshing dip.

The rainforest was great and all but I was so worried about the fricken dog-sized mosquitos that I couldn't really relax.  Jen, what's up with you in this photo?  Are you worried about mozzies too?

p.s.  This was one of my favorite trips EVER!  The Koala smelled like mangos. After I wrote my first comment I realized Jen wasn't worried about the mozzies at all.  She was just getting ready to block me in the photo.  Sorry but too late..  Haa Haa.

I currently write this from the western part of Puerto Rico. When I get back, I have 2 weeks before I leave for Australia - I'll be taking the new Sony GPS unit with me to track where I go and the fun places I'll be hiking and diving. Can't wait!
