Ankle Still Improving - Time for some LSD.

Posted by Steve Carton on Jul 23, 2009 8:25:54 AM

It's been 5 weeks since my last LSD or

speed work - letting my ankle get better. And it does seem much improved. I've

now got some reasonable tempo runs and some easy runs in last week and Monday

this week and I feel pretty good. I'm going to try an LSD this afternoon

(targeting 18, but I'll base that on how I feel). 18 is a big increase on the

miles I've been running, so I'm really counting on the large base I've developed

over the past couple of years to get me back to that level quickly. But we'll

see. I'll definitely run slowly. And stay off the hills for now. Just see how it

goes.

Afterall, it's only 13 weeks to the MCM...

How goes the training? Ive had to lay low since Aug 11 due to tendonitis in my ankle  -- pain was pretty bad, especially after running and was afraid Id end up with a stress fracture. Im training for 10/18 Columbus marathon and had been doing about 25 - 30 per week including a couple 15s before I threw in the towel. Im seeing a phys therapist to see what I can manage for training and still run the full marathon -- there is a 1/2 mary option and Im already paid up. I can run again next Weds and will ramp back up to an 18 miler by 9/19 then a 20 or 22 week later. Like you Im counting on the base Ive built up last couple of yrs.

Good luck with the MCM hills -- I did it in 08 and totally mis-paced the hills early on and paid dearly from mile 18 onward.

Hey Pete - tough break (well, hope not).  FWIW, I think we pay dearly from Mile 18 onward no matter what we do earlier

My ankle seems fine now - but I'm waaaay behind on training. I've done one 16 miler and not much else. And the heat is just dragging me down. So I gave up on the MCM and am focused instead on the Harrisburg PA marathon which is 3 weeks later, in early November.

Good luck with the ankle.
