I've done one 16 miler and not much else. And the heat is just dragging me down. So I gave up on the MCM and am focused instead on the Harrisburg PA marathon which is 3 weeks later, in early November.

Good luck with the ankle.

Ive had to lay low since Aug 11 due to tendonitis in my ankle -- pain was pretty bad, especially after running and was afraid Id end up with a stress fracture. Im training for 10/18 Columbus marathon and had been doing about 25 - 30 per week including a couple 15s before I threw in the towel. Im seeing a phys therapist to see what I can manage for training and still run the full marathon -- there is a 1/2 mary option and Im already paid up. I can run again next Weds and will ramp back up to an 18 miler by 9/19 then a 20 or 22 week later. Like you Im counting on the base Ive built up last couple of yrs.

Good luck with the MCM hills -- I did it in 08 and totally mis-paced the hills early on and paid dearly from mile 18 onward.

I've used Bodyglide pretty much exclusively for a couple of years. It works for me both thighs and nipples, and I also sometimes use it on my ankles when I have a new pair of shoes - seem to rub there. I tried SportShield from TwoToms and that worked well too but it's a liquid and so when it fell sideways in my gym bag it leaked all over the inside. Since it didn't seem to work any better than BodyGlide, I just went back to that.

One downside to any of these products is that they will stain your shirt - I have several white technical shirts that now have brown stains where I put this stuff over my nipples. So be careful if you are wearing a shirt that's important to you! I ruined my Inaugural Rehoboth Marathon shirt that way.

Is one better for, say, nipples, and another for inner thighs? Is there one that's all purpose?

Thanks Kris. When I was your age, I could not have run a marathon - too much discipline for me! So AFAIC, you are doing very well indeed. Planning the Maryland Double?

I have a Casio Exilim 8.1. It's very small and thin and fits nicely in my race-ready shorts pockets. I was very worried when it started raining so I only got a few pictures and those were near the start. After Walmart it started raining and I kept it in my pocket. And even at that I was worried because I was drenched. But it survived fine. I got that particular model also because it was fairly cheap so if it croaks from sweat or rain or just being dropped, I won't be too upset. But it seems to take good pictures. I think it has an image stabilizer or something.

Negative splits are hard and in Frederick, I think next to impossible. The hills are just take too much. But you should definitely train to start out more slowly. I always feel like I'm holding back for the first half. I've gotten to the point where I feel strong for 18-20 and also from about 24 to the end, but I really struggle from about 20-24. So I need to work on that part of my run, which is hard because of what I have to do to even get that far! Ah such problems we have

What's next for you? I think I'm going to run Harrisburg in the fall.

You took two potty breaks, walked, and took pictures and still clocked a 4:43! I was pooped just running. How did you take pictures? You must have Canon Powershot or good phone camera or something.

I am realizing that I must train to run negative splits. Sorry if I slowed you down. Congrats on the PR. I was glad to volunteer but wished I had ran. I was signed up for the Shamrock Marathon in two weeks so I did not sign up for the B&A. Can't make it the Shamrock now but oh well. I ran the trail yesterday and it reminded me that it is very lonely for long stretches at a time. I imagine it had to be tough at the second half of the race. Kudo's to you.

I think the only marathon I will hit this year will be the Rehobeth. Baltimore is too close to Rehobeth and I did terrible at Disney due to my reluctance to run outdoors in the winter. Am going to do the Disney half and run the Striders Championship series. Also, the Baltimore 10 miler in June looks fun as well as the Dewey 10 in Sept.

Take care,

Chris
