tapering for a sprint?

I understand the concept and how to taper for marathons, but is it necesary to taper for a sprint distance tri? If so, what is the best way? I have done several Olympic distance tri's this summer, more for the training aspect, but there is a sprint coming up and I want to do my best.

I've taken two days off. My next sprint is in six weeks. So where in a 8-10 week training program do I start at? Should I forgo the base training and work on the endurance and speed. Your thoughts Thanks

I am training with Powertap and find it very useful - although I am still learning how to maximise it. Question is - I want to buy a Zipp wheel for racing but am a bit freaked by the cost of the Powertap version. Do I need to race with Powertap or should I be smart enough from reading training logs to be able to race to PE and Heart rate? Really apprecaite any tips

Steve

Base Training

The first is that the aerobic improvement of an hour long base training session wll be somewhat mitigated if you add a 10-15 minute anaerobic or interval session on at the end. Why is this? It seems as though you have "Banked" an hour of aerobic work that can't be taken away. The other myth I have heard is that your training during your base training phase (Jan-March) needs to be exclusively base training with no anaerobic. Is this true?

Anyway, a friend gave me some tips on creating a managed program for training and pacing.

I also use the same patches that the US & Japanese Swim Teams used in China for energy, stamina and strength and I am finding some incredible results. I had significant results with my side passion for hiking.
