16 Year Old Runner Has Places to Be

A neat story....

Los Angeles, CA – 05/20/2013—16 year old Alana Hadley started running one day and hasn’t stopped since. Hadley runs on average 110 miles a week and has been running since age 6. Alana just happens to be the top 16 year old long-distance runner in the country.

Hadley’s father is the running coach. Mark supervises training and makes sure Alana doesn’t overdo it. People in the running world are very curious about Hadley, not just because of the results but because of the unconventional way that Hadley is doing things.

High school sophomores do not usually tackle marathons, don’t run 110 miles a week or get up at 5 a.m. for five-mile jogs tos upplement afternoon training.

Hadley will not run in college, but is looking forward to the trials for the 2016 Olympic Games in three years.

Help! Should I run a 10K tomorrow??

I had to take three weeks off because of a foot injury and thought I wasn't going to be able to do the 10K. Well I ran 2 miles yesterday with no pain. Should I attempt to run the race tomorrow? My worry is the endurance, not so much my foot. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Doc said I can't run...what else can I do instead?

I love running. I finally found something I'm halfway decent at and going out the door, getting away from the hubby and kids does me a world of good. Running helps me find my inner balance and brings me some much needed quiet time, not to mention the sense of accomplisment when I get done. Going for a run is my thing to do so you can imagine how sad I was when my toe was starting to bother me to the point where I couldn't hardly walk. I had this problem about a year ago when I was pregnant with baby #2, I was still running at the time so I went to a podiatrist. He x-rayed my foot and found a cyst growing in the bone of one of my toes. He told me since I was pregnant, there wasn't much he could do and told me to except take it easy. After a while, this pain went away.

Fast forward to now....I just trained for and completed my first half marathon less than a month ago. With NO pain, then 2 days after my race, I couldn't hardly walk, so off to the podiatrist I went. He took a new xray and found this cyst had doubled in size to the point where it's thinnig out my bone so much it's going to break soon. He told me I needed surgery and that my healing time will be 4-6 weeks but until then no running or high impact workouts.

My question is: What other workouts can I do in the mean time to not lose my stamina for running? I want to run another half this fall but I don't want to start all over with training. I know I can bike or swim but what else is there? I can't sit on my *** all summer...anything will be appreciated, I am so very sad that I can't run...I almost cried when he told me not to run.

Thanks in advance..

Trying to get to 9 min mile

I run 3 5ks a week and one long run (4-6) miles always in the morning because I live in SWFL and I need to get outside before the humidity is unbearable. Is it hydration that I am missing because of the heat and humidity? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My Quest For "Running My Birth Year" in a 5K

Some of you have followed the trials and travails of my experience as I got off the couch in Feb 2012 and for the first time in 53 years started to run/jog. I put the details in the Newbie Cafe under the post "want to Watch a 53 Year Old Lunatic Amuse Himself with the C25K Program?

Much to my surprise, I found myself enjoying the process and have made glacial, but steady progress and now I am inching my way toward my long term goal of a 19:59 5K (or what I call "running my birth year....clever huh?) My first ever 5K was in April of this year at the Deena Kastor portion of the Great Race of Agoura with a molasses-slow 31:44, followed the next month by the Run Seal Beach at 29:11, May's race was the Ventura Law Day at 28:40....then a couple of months off recoverng from a massive shin splint (that is what happens when you run in worn out shoes) and just did the Colonel Allensworth State Park 5K this past Saturday at 27:17. Next race will be the 5K Race that is part of the Santa Clarita Maraton on 11/4....lots of hills....not sure what I can do, but I would be happy with any improvement on 27:17.

Not sure yet what my physical limitations are to acheiving the 19:59, but I figure I can keep chipping away at the time reduction over as long a time as I want. I have dug out an old copy of "The Self Coached Runner" and it looks like I can adapt the 10 programs to 5K times and programs. I am using Running Mates' Faster5K program right now, but I know I am going to have to make the training much more individualized because of my age and basic lack of talent.

I will keep you posted.....and I am sure your are holding your collective breath.

Larger workers were less likely to exercise threeor more times per week and were less likely to report having a safe place toexercise

The personal cost of obesity is high, asemployers discriminate against obese workers. Employers are also starting to support employee led running clubs and other fitness initiatives.

I run 10 miles a day/7 days a week. I have been doing this for four years now. During the winter I don't care, but it's getting nice outside and I have the darkest legs & the WHITEST feet ever known. It looks like I am wearing white socks. I do not want to spend another summer in long pants. What do runner's do to take care of this. I have tried 14 self tanners, none of them work on the feet, I called several spray tanning places THEY DON'T DO FEET, last year I actually found a tanning salon that had a machine for feet.legs only(but of course they closed down now) I know it probably sounds vain or stupid, but it would be nice to wear capris(without athletic shoes, or shorts or even a nice dress this summer. Surely I am not the ONLY runner with White white feet? maybe I'm the only one who cares though!
