Program Summary

They Will Surf Again, a no-cost program underwritten by Life Rolls On and generous sponsors, is the most popular program of Life Rolls On. Injured athletes from around the country gather together for a day of surfing! Some have not surfed since their injury, some have never surfed, some surf all the time despite their varying mobility. TWSA connects dozens of volunteers, with a handful of injured surfers, together for a day of excitement, joy, and best of all, surf! Safety precautions and experienced watermen (and women), along with lifeguards will be present. No prior surfing experience is necessary. Best spot to get started?

So I've lived in SD for a little over 4 years and have yet to attempt to surf. I've played traditional sports for the better part of my life with most of that time being dominated by footbal up through my Sophmore year in college. With those days behind me, I do whatever I can to stay fit. I snowboard in the winter and wakeboard pretty much year round when the water is good. With everyone always telling me that surfing is one of the best workouts you can get, I have always wanted to find out for myself. With my current workout routine starting to get old, the idea of wanting to get out there and try it has once again krept into my head. I live 4 blocks from the beach and own two boards (both the result of friends moving to land locked areas and sayin "here, take em") but I really have no where to go from there. I'm hesitant to just grab the longboard and head out to the water because 1) I don't know what I'm doing, although I'm sure I could figure it out through much trial and error, but more so 2) I don't want to get in the way of those surfers that are out there trying to enjoy the sport that they are already established at. So with that said, my question is what would be a good break to go "learn" at if I live in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego?

Here are a few things to know about this forum:

HOW DO I CREATE A THREAD?

When logged in, click "Start a thread" or "Ask a question" located under the Actions menu on the left.

You can chose to "reply to the original post" or any individual response by clicking in the "reply" button in the bottom right corner of a message

HOW DO I TURN ON/OFF EMAIL NOTIFICATION ALERTS?

This functionality is accessed through your My Active profile. Next to your display name at the top of the page, click the link to your own My Active profile. (If there is no link, you're probably not logged in). Click the "Email Notifications" tab on the far right. Click the box next to the message and then click "Remove Selected Notifications"

HOW DO I EMBED PHOTOS/IMAGES INTO A POST?

From Firefox and Internet Explorer:

1. Click the "Insert/edit image" icon in the toolbar on top of the text editor window

2. Click "Upload Images" to browse your computer and select your image/photo to upload

3. Click "Insert"

4. Click the "Preview" post tab (above text editor) and you should see the pic

5. If pic looks good click "Post Message" or "Post Reply"

I just signed up for the Santa Cruz Adult Camp. I just made the cut for the adult one. Anyone surfed this area? How are the waves? I've heard great things. Anyway, I amped about it! Hit me up with some info. Thanks.

Fear of Sharks

With last Friday's fatal shark attack in Solana Beach I figured I'd see what everyone thinks about hopping back into the water in an area where a recent shark attack has occurred. I happen to live near where this last one happened and have surfed that break and those around it hundreds of times, but I'm curious to hear how quickly you would be back in the water if a 'man eating' shark was known to be in your area. Personally, I will be back in the water whenever the next swell hits, if for no other reason than the law of percentages tells me it's super unlikely to happen again, but what about you? Does something like this make you think twice before you paddle out?
