How to I upload data from my Heart Rate Monitor?

One of the many benefits of subscribing to the ActiveTrainer PLUS Membership is the ability to upload data from your Polar heart rate monitor into your training log. If you don't have ActiveTrainer PLUS, Click Here to get started!

Once you have the PLUS membership, follow the instructions below to upload data from your heart rate monitor (Note: ActiveTrainer is compatible with heart rate monitors that produce .hrm files):

1. First, you'll need to "complete" your workout.

If you already have a training plan loaded into your calendar, click on the day in the monthly calendar that you'd like to upload your heart rate monitor data so you're looking at the daily view. Change the "Workout Status" dropdown on the right from "Planned" to "Complete". The header will turn green, indicating a completed workout. Click the "Edit" link on the left part of the green header (located next to the name of your activity).

If you are logging a completed workout, click on the day in the monthly calendar that you'd like to upload your heart rate monitor data so you're looking at the daily view. Hover your mouse over the "Log a Completed Workout" link and select the activity you'd like to log.

2. On the right hand side of the screen you'll see a "Heart Rate (MHR)" header with an area beneath it that says "Upload from Device". Click on the browse button, select your Polar data file, and click Save.

Related Topics

What do I get with Active Trainer PLUS?

Why aren't my workouts showing up in my calendar?

So you downloaded a training plan but your calendar is empty. What now? There are a couple of reasons why this may have happened.

Scenario #1: Your training plan hasn't started yet. If your plan starts in a different month, you won't see any workouts on the current month displayed. Suppose your event is in 5 months but you downloaded a 12-week training plan. The reason why your calendar is blank this month is because your training plan doesn't start for another few months.

Scenario #2: You logged in to ActiveTrainer but you didn't actually download a training plan.

Follow the steps below to determine why you aren't seeing your training plan on your calendar:

1. Login to www.activetrainer.com with your username (email address) and password.
2. On the top right (in the header) click on "My Account" then "Purchases" on the left-hand side of the page.

Scenario #1: Take a look at the training start date of your current plan -- Did it start yet? If it doesn't start this month, you won't see it on your current calendar view. If you want your plan to start earlier, click on the "Move" link and select your desired start date. If you want to keep your start date but want to see your workouts, go back to the calendar page and use the arrows to advance to the next month.

Scenario #2: If you don't see your training plan displayed under your Purchases, then you didn't actually download your plan. Go back to the original training page you came from and go through the checkout process again.

We strive to find coaches that appeal to both beginners and advanced athletes alike. Here are a few of the coaches working with Active Trainer.

Gale Bernhardt | 2004 USA Triathlon Olympic Coach | View Plans

Gale Bernhardt traveled to Athens, Greece as the 2004 USA Triathlon Olympic Coach for both the men's and women's triathlon teams. She has served as the Chairperson for the National Coaching Committee for USA Triathlon for five consecutive years and is one of only a few, select USA Triathlon World Cup coaches. Athletes utilizing her personal guidance include Olympic and professional cyclists, top national-level masters road racers, ultra-endurance cyclists, runners and multisport racers. Her athletes have placed at Olympic Trials and National Championships. She has coached multisport athletes to podium finishes at world championship events and others have traveled to the Hawaii Ironman competition. Whether you are training to complete an event or compete at an event, you can use the same training principles that elite athletes use to improve your fitness. Pre-built plans are available for several different race distances and athletic goals. more

Dave Scott | Six-time Ironman World Champion | View Plans

Dave Scott is one of the most recognized athletes and coaches in the sport of triathlon. His career in triathlon began with the inception of the sport in 1976. He won his first Hawaii Ironman in 1980 and went on to win again in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1987. In 1993, he was honored for his accomplishments in the sport and became the first inductee into the Ironman Hall of Fame. Dave believes that coaching people is more about being a teacher than a coach. Dave combines years of wisdom, wit and creativity with his passion for helping others. After thirty years in the sport, he continues to maintain world-wide appeal as a fitness and nutrition consultant, product marketing consultant and nationally recognized speaker. more

Jenny Hadfield | Nationally recognized author and running coach | View Plans

Coach Jenny is co-owner of Chicago Endurance Sports, Chicago's largest multi-sport company. Or, track your training mix by analyzing what percent of training hours you log on your bike versus running.
