Before Active came in and took over eteamz, this discussion board was pretty lively with rules discussion. Now, obviously, there's nothing going on.

I'm hoping someone--ANYONE--will read this and let me know where there is a decent fastpitch softball rules board that I can participate in. I know if I ask a question here, it will be months or even years before it gets answered.

I need an opinion. I am not sure if I am posting this in the right spot, and if I'm not then please direct me to the right place to post this. DD played for a team for three years. Her dad was the assistant coach. Due to some out of control behavior by one of the other players (happens to be the head coach's DD), as well as drama involving the same coach she made the hard decision to resign her position. I won't bother you with the details, because they don't really matter. This is not a "sponsored" team. Every player is required to pay annual fees and do a LOT of fundraising. When she resigned we turned in all uniforms but kept her bat bag because she does not have another one. The coach is livid. He says that the bat bag is the property of the team and that she needs to turn it in. If that is the property of the team, then what did our annual fees pay for? We feel like we paid for the uniforms and equipment with our fees and fundraising. We gave the uniforms back because she wouldn't use them. We tried to give him her helmet which is in good shape, but he didn't want it,. Of course now he is bad mouthing us, so... now it's the principle of the thing. I am tempted to give him the dang bat bag back just to shut him up, but on the other hand, we strongly feel that it is our bat bag.

Interference or Incidental contact

F4 playing deep, R1 on first. BR hits a slow ground ball. F4 charges in and collides with R1 with both in motion. I called it incidental contact since in my judgment, both fielder and runner were in motion and just collided. The other umpire said I should have called interference. Who's right?

USFA rules - Is this a strike or Hit by pitch?

I was watching a game using USFA rules.

A batter was hit by a pitch in the hands, which were on the bat. The umpire said it was a hit by pitch and he rewarded the batter first base.

I have always thought that the hands were part of the bat and if you get hit in the hands, it counts as a foul ball.

Was the umpire correct in his call?
If you know the section of the rulebook that this is in, I would love to know!
Ive been reading, but can't find it.

Hey there softball world. My name is Amanda Evans and I currently give private lessons at RBI Academy in Walnut, CA. I played softball at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Currently I am the assistant softball coach at Rio Hondo Community College. Presently I give hitting, pitching, and catching lessons through RBI Academy and am available Monday-Thursday from about 4pm to 8pm. Lesson's usually run about $40 a half hour but there are different lesson packages as well as membership packages that are available. Dropped third strike question

During a recent game we had the following situation (and our league uses the dropped 3rd strike rule):

Top of the 6th, 2 outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2-2 count on the batter.

On the next pitch the batter swung at a low pitch and missed for strike 3 and the ball gets by the catcher.

The runner from third comes running to home, the catcher instead of just throwing to first makes an attempt on the runner from third and misses the tag.

While this is going on the batter has stopped 7-8 steps down the first base line, not sure what to do i guess, then takes off.

Catcher throws to first and gets them out.

Umpire SCORES the run. Would this be the correct call since the catcher made an attempt on the base runner before the batter?

Or would it still be a "force out" at first no matter how long it took and the run should have not been counted?

And of course the winning margin was 1 run!

I have enjoyed reading posts on here over the years. Still a newbie blue compared to most. Would like words of wisdom from the board on the below situation.

Game sitch: R1, R2 1 Out. B1 hits ball in the air, R2 took off on contact. My partner FU calls Infield Fly. F6 catches the infield fly as R2 proceeds to 3B. Defense executes live ball appeal at 2B on R2 who did not re-touch and my partner calls "Safe." Defensive coach never protested the call, and play continued. After the third out, my partner and I chatted and I asked if she knew what happened. She admitted that she totally missed the fact that R2 did not re-touch 2B after the catch.

I want opinions on if I 1) did the right thing by not saying anything, or if I 2) should have called time and talked the play over with my partner and let her choose how to handle it. I appreciate any advice.

Dropped Bat Hits U3K

16U tourney game under ASA rules. Batter swings and misses at a pitch in the dirt that bounces off F2's shin guard and rolls up the first base line a few feet. Batter takes off for first base and drops the bat on the line. It rolls a foot or so and hits the loose ball as F2 reaches down to pick it up. Because of the contact between the bat and the ball, F2 can't get the ball to make the play.

I was the PU, and when that happened, I called Dead Ball before the batter reached first. Then I immediately realized that perhaps this wasn't a violation of anything, and motioned for my BU partner to discuss it. We both agreed that the batter did nothing intentional to affect the play. When I told him I believed it was different when a bat contacts a loose uncaught third strike than a fair batted ball, he agreed, and we left the batter at first base.

Is that the correct call?
