Re: arm numbness

Hi Simz,

I am a graduate student in human physiology, masters swimmer and runner, and a registered yoga teacher. Your son's pain is most likely caused by his posture, not only when running, but always. Of-course, I suggest seeing a doctor if necessary, but I want you to be very careful, as medical treatment for chronic pain can cause more problems than it can solve.

I've delt with various injuries in my life, including a serious bike/car accident last year which led me on a search for a better method of healing. I found it in a great postural realignment method that is based on simple exercises you can do at home. It's called the Egoscue Method, you can check out their main website at www.egoscue.com.

I also host a blog at http://phdroadshow.blogspot.com where I have several posts about the Egoscue Method.

As for your son's problem, I recommend picking up the book 'Pain Free' by Pete Egoscue, reading through the first three chapters, and then jumping to pages 161-184. Please, be careful with doctors. Your son is at an important developmental stage physically and psychologically and if he is told he cannot do something, or if he is told he needs injections / surgery, this could cause serious problems down the road.

Feel free to email me with any questions you may have.

My best,

Anna

Re: Injury in the middle of training

Hello Frank,

First of all, I want to send you my best wishes in your recovery. Pain is what it is. But it is also a very important signal. I have dealt with various injuries in my life: I played competitive tennis in my youth and later went on to swim in Masters competitions in college and am a Registered Yoga Teacher. I am also a PhD candidate in physiology at UCLA. I say all this not to drive up my ego but to tell you that I'm not a quack.

One more thing about me: last year I was in a serious bike / car accident and had some awful experiences with doctors and physical therapists. And then I finally decided to take things into my own hands and started searching for self-help methods of healing. I came upon Pete Egoscue and his Egoscue Method. And it totally changed my life. Please read my blog for more information:

http://phdroadshow.blogspot.com/2008/03/egoscue-and-life.html

Simply put, if you read about and follow Pete's program, not only will your neck get better, but you will be a better and stronger runner. Promise.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!

My best,

Anna
