Course was pretty flat, except for a .3 mile downhill at the beginning and a .5 mile uphill at the end. Will definitely add this to my list of yearly 5Ks!

@Camaro - so I, sort of, took your advice. I ran my regular route backwards...we have a reactive dog and need to make sure we know what we're going to meet each time we run...so if I run a new place it has to be without her the first few times, which I will do this weekend! It felt different but good. And it wasn't a fluke!!! I ran another 20 minutes straight. Man, that felt great - better than Monday. I can't wait to add some minutes on Friday and start week 8 on Sunday! Can't believe I'll be on my own soon with this.

Mb923 I have RunKeeper loaded on my phone...have used it with the 5K Runner once or twice...but my time and distance were too depressing. As I get closer to the end I'll fire it up again to see how far and fast I'm running and use that as motivation to actually make it the 3K distance. I checked out Runtastic and it seems the same as RunKeeper. I think I'll stick with RK and then maybe try the other later.

Ikkinikki - good idea with the restart and running for the walk...hmmm...might be worth a try! I haven't run on my treadmill yet...and I'm going to have to start running when it's warmer as our Sept. 8 start time is 11...don't want to be shocked at how hot I am! It was beautiful this morning at 60 and low humidity!

Kristi - good luck tomorrow - I'll be thinking of you and cheering!

Keep up the great work everyone. I will change things up...maybe Wed. morning...I have a flat route I've been eyeing!

@ Kristi - WOW - good for you!

Great job Camaro!

I just started W7D1 on my program - which was my first 20 min. run. From here on there aren't any walks peppered in and I slowly gain time for the run. The first 5 minutes were rough, but once I found a rhythm the breathing and pace settled in. I did find that the last 2 min. the breathing became difficult again - perhaps I was anticipating the cool down walk!! I iced my knees this a.m. hoping that will help me sleep tonight, as they've been a bit uncomfortable overnights lately. Need to find some strengthening exercises for them.

@Camaro - going for the 10K is cool - I'm hoping to maintain the 5K distance, find some races to better my times (when I finally get there), and try some different routes. I've been running the same route during this whole process, for a number of reasons, but I would love to expand where I run to once I take the training wheels off! I'd like to keep doing this as exercise, so I need motivation too - having the dog helps - getting her tired is the goal...not there yet!

Have a great week everyone - can't wait to hear all the progress going on! I did the complete run and the second 10 minutes felt better than the first 10, but man, starting off was hard. And Camaro, I know what you mean about checking the timer! I looked down (ready to give up) and saw I had 30 seconds!!! so I kept going and made it!

Glad to see everyone is moving forward!

Congrats to all...any races in anyone's future? Of course you can do it - now you can't tell yourself you can't - because you know you CAN! Feels great to continue to do things I thought I couldn't! So proud of all of us!

I'm using the 5K Runner program, so I'm still gradually building. Tomorrow W6D2 is 10R +3W+ 10R, then W6D3 is 15R+ 3W + 5R. I do like how gradual it's increased the run and decreased the walk. Seems to make more sense to me than what I'm hearing from the actual C25K...but that's me! W7D1 is my first 20 min. run, and like you, I'm dreading it. But I haven't been able to believe all that I've done so far...so I'm sure I'll do that too - just VERY slowly.

Glad running has become therapy for you though. I find it so nice to just be one with the music and my body - oh, and that voice that tells me when to run/walk! LOL.

I ran W6D1 this morning. It was so hot even at 6 a.m., but I worked through it. It was a 10r 5w 10r today and it felt pretty good. I got into a nice rhythm and the breathing is coming...it's not great yet, but I think as my body gets used to what I'm doing it's getting a little better each time. Hoping it cools down in the morning as I get closer to the longer runs...

I lurk more than post here, but the positive comments and knowing that we're all in this together is very helpful to me! So, thank you for sharing your struggles and your advice. It means a lot.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Also, repeating a day isn't a bad thing...it's all about what you can do!

I'm using the 5K Runner app on my iPhone and find it a much more gradual change. My W5D2 is 5R, 3W, 8R, 5W, 5R - with the warm up and cool down 5 min. That may work better for you - I'm having a lot of success and feel like I'm making progress each time I run. I don't hit the 20 min. run until W7. Of course, I'll have major catching up to do in W8, but I figure I'll be stronger and more comfortable with running by then.

Good luck! I'll be running Day 2 with you tomorrow - you can do it!

Anne
