There was a great turnout for a smaller, local race. I loved seeing so many runners in one place. I will be back next year.....

5K awards should have been given out much faster....before the 1K race. Other than that.....perfect!

Reaching the next level

I am so psyched about running this year. I participated in a series and proudly won for my age group last year. The series is very small and I've run much larger races like the LaSalle Banks 5K in Chicago and the Carlsbad 5000 ten years ago-the competition is waaaaay different. My fastest 5K last year was only a 22:17 and that still gave me first place. Next year the competition is more. The series is growing and there are faster females in my age group entering.

Anyhow....last year I am very proud of. It was my initiation back to the world of running. It had been 10 years since I'd ran in a race and I was an off and on runner since then. Winning this series gave me the strength and focus that I needed to commit to being involved in a lifelong journey whether it is through running alone, duathlons, or triathlons.......

This year I will be running my first half marathon to add along with the 11 races comprised of 5K's and 10K's in the race series. I am so psyched to finally be at the point where I am able to increase my mileage safely and affectively. I feel like I am stepping into a whole new level of running and I love it. I look forward to my runs so much that I want to run more than I should. Luckily, I've already figured out that increasing too fast is not wise, so I am able to hold back. With all that said-I just felt the need to share this with you all as my fellow runners, who I just know will understand what I am feeling. I could try to explain this all to friends and they may not be able to understand the feeling.

Thanks for listening!

Emily

And yep-they've all been injured.

I'll check out that book you mentioned once I read through the long list of books that I'm slowly but surely getting in. Right now I'm reading Eating Well For Optimum Health by Andrew Weil. It is so informative.

Emily
