From what I've read, the HPU has said that had he the opportunity to replay this, he would not have called a strike. I have only seen the replay from the "left of centerfield" camera. While it does not look like a strike from that angle, I will not judge. The camera angle (for the purpose of judging a strike) was not adequate. Is there another/better angle available?

At the risk of sounding sarcastic Mr. Ives, since when has your opinion been "humble".

I don't agree with you that Frank! was making "way too much of a big deal". He (IMO) was just stating an observation, and then responded to differing opinions. A "way to much of a big deal" take? No it's a discussion, a back-n-forth that we all enjoy.

I would certainly concur that this meaningless game would provoke me as coach to shift the line up/positions, but that does not at all diminish an ability of another observer that might see an otherwise possible outlook, and then pose the aforementioned questions.

I think you, by insuation are making way too much of a big deal of Frank!s observation. (imHo of course)

Our laundry? This was LL Bristol laundry. They messed up, WP fessed up, and likely due to the posts of the crew involved, it will now be reckoned with. (BTW- I am from the East Region and have no cross to bear against them).

Yes facebook is viewed by many (not everyone, but many) but who on facebook would give a rats behind EXCEPT anyone involved in youth baseball? Maybe the umps should just shut up and be viewed by the masses as the perpertrators of the error, rather than true ownership being assessed?

From Manny: Well, Mr. Robinson could have been a little more diplomatic about it when using a public forum such as Facebook. His two references to "Bristol officials" with quotation marks around them was a little insulting.

So Bristol messed up and then should be soft served in the explanation? Cheez louise, I expect (I hope) that when I screw up, someone who is in the know, will bring it up, chastise me, whatever, so that I get it right next time. I make a mistake, I own the mistake, pure and simple. It's not as if Mr. Robinson and the Bristol officials are on each others distribution lists or call each other to discuss issues is it? So, here it is on facebook instead. Bravo, fix it and move on.....................

A kick in the @ss for the two guys that smacked their boss in public. You'd think this was the company Christmas party, and these two knuckleheads got blasted and called their supervisor fat, bald and ugly. If I were their local DA, they'd be working wood bat t-ball from now on. Man, was that stupid of them.

You CAN'T be serious. WP didn't "fess up" until they were "smacked". Would you prefer that we sweep this quietly under the rug? Sometimes the dirty laundry isn't cleaned until an outside source views its uncleanliness. These guys did almost exactly the right thing by airing it out. I would hope that I would have the cajones to do the same. And I can tell you for sure that my future ability to work would have NO BEARING on my decision to do so. Only a coward would fall back on that and these gus did not. The mistake has now been acknowledged and they can now implement steps to avoid a repeat.

Very interesting scenarios presented by Frank! and Manny. But on this post, I will just attempt to answer the questions addressed to me by Mark_P:

BB - do you have any opinion on whether the manager knew he was violating the substitution rule or just made a mistake?

My belief is that the manager did not know he had made an illegal substitution. All the teams in this district use the CBO for Majors and below during regular season, so these managers/coaches sometimes struggle with subs and MPR. He told me during the protest that he had it in his plans to put Ralph in to pitch once Paul reached his limit, and he did not know he was breaking a rule when he did so. I don't know the man, but I believe him.

Also, was the other team made aware of the substitution in right field at the top of the third?

Yes. As was the OS and the UIC.

Did the manager say anything to anyone about the fact that his pitcher was coming off the bench rather than just switching positions?

If he did, I was not privvy to that fact. But probably. During his mound visit, U2 was close to the mound and I was busy at 3B trying to reposition the break away base, which was a magnetic base and moving any time there was an impact.

Was it one of those cases where a bunch of kids are in and out of the dugout so it's not clear a sub was made? Or did the new pitcher just walk out of the dugout and no one thought to ask who he was subbing for?

In hindsight, I'm sure this is what happened. It won't happen again on my watch, (once bitten, twice shy). I'm quite sure that I was more than a little lackadaisical being at 3B and not supporting my UIC with the pertinent questions that we all should be asking (IMO).

Last week, district semi-final game, LL Major's. We have an illegal substituion. I'm U4, and the starting right fielder is subbed for in the top of the 3rd (ok so far).

The starting pitcher then reached his pitch limit (already) and coach brings in his 2nd pitcher. Unbeknownst to me (my bad) he brings in the kid on the bench who had just been subbed for. The kid squashes the rally of the other team who had made a 4 run deficit into a 1 run deficit and still had runners at the corners. NOBODY catches that starter and sub are in together.

Next inning. The illegal pitcher (his sub had still not met MPR, so was still in RF), mows down the side in order.

Next half inning, the sub comes up to bat. The Official-scorer (OS) realizes that something is wrong, sub and starter are in together. The Umps (me included) had not excercised due diligence to catch it when it happened. The OS asks for time and we huddle. I suggest that the pitcher (though now on offense and who had yet to bat as the pitcher) be taken out until the sub reaches MPR and then the sub can be removed in favor of his starter. The manager of the offended team protests. The ruling handed down from region? Same as I had suggested.The next batter was the sub. He batted and was removed and the pitcher was allowed to pitch next half inning. Protest was denied at that point by WP even though the illegal pitcher A) squashed a rally and, B) mowed them down next inning. Protesting team loses, winning team loses the district final.

Meanwhile, I'm feeling nuttier than a squirrel turd for not catching this.

The floodgates are now opened.............
