Re: Got Grit? Obstacle Course Reviews

This event was a lot of fun. The course was difficult enough to challenge seasoned athletes while being accesible to almost all skill levels. The folks who set up the course definately had a sense of humour (as some of the above posts mentioned - pole bending on stick ponies, "Suffer" on the wall midpoint of one of the steepest short hills I have seen, and one cannot forget the "hop" to the finish). I would definately recommend that folks consider this event next year. Consider heading to Choteau for the weekend. This event was one of two active events (Freedom Run followed on the 4th), but only one of many other events going on in this beautiful community. Craft festivals, mini-fair, rodeo, free concert in the park, street dances... definately made for a fantastic 4th of July weekend!

Hi folks. I stumbled upon this thread and thought I would post. I attempted my first walk marathon in 2009. Almost finished too, except I had been told they cleared the course at a certain time, so when that time was up... well, I thought I wouldn't be allowed to finish... so stopped. DUMB! Oh well, it was a learning experience. The second one I attempted, I completed. That was 2009. Last year I thought I had trained enough, but, apparently God had a different plan. I ended up having to stop just over half way... but it pushed me to go to the Doc and find out what was going on with me. I found out that my thyroid wasn't working right. New meds and about 6 months later and I am back on track - down almost 30 pounds so far (but still at 235 so a long way to go). I just finished signing up for a six-pack of races (a couple fun runs, a couple half marathons, and two full) for this year. My goal is to jog the full distances of the shorter races and jog at least half of the full marathons. This seemed like a good thread to get and give some support. With the marathon I walked (and finished) in 2009, I learned that shape/size doesn't matter near as much as preperation and attitude. So, if there is anyone our there interested in buddying up (either in person if you're local, or online through e-mail or this site) to keep each other motivated and on track.... I would love the company! To everyone on this thread... keep up the good work! Good health, happiness, and understanding to you and yours.

I just wanted to say that last year I walked two marathons (at 250 pounds and with not a lot of preperation). So... you CAN do it. My goal this year is to run at least half of each one (with of course, more preperation than I had last year). I also wanted to tell you that I was SOOOO impressed with the character of the marathon runners that I encountered. Even the top place finishers took a second to say "keep it up" or to smile and say hello. For me, the biggest motivating factor to finishing, was doing it for a good cause. I walked to raise awareness for Suicide Prevention and wore my bright yellow "Out of the Darkness" t-shirt. Also, if you can find someone to jog the race with you, that helps too!
