The food at the end was great! The only suggestion I have is that some real beer,as opposed to all lite beer, shoud be offered at the finish.

Has Anyone Used G. Bernhardt's 16 Week to An Ironman?

MORIATES, I'm hoping that I have the base. OnFriday I swam 5000yds, no problems. On Saturday I rode my trainer for 5hr. at a fairly intense pace (two sets of long ladders 52/17,15,13,12 for 45minutes each gear-then same gearing for 30 minutes each). On sunday I ran 13 miles. Total hours for the week were 13 3/4. This will be an 8-9hr week, so I am well ahead of Gayles schedule. I am doing bike hill intervals every other week (Jacobson's "HILLacious) & Fairly long swim intervals 1x a week. I'm not pushing the run due to back problems. Thanks for the link to your newsletter. I'll register.

Anyone Ride an Orbea Ordu?

I have a long torso & short legs, so the geometry looks right. Some of the reviews say that it is fast, responsive, stiff, fairly comfortable, and climbs well. If this is all true it sounds like a great bike. I am replacing a 6 year old K-Factor. My next race is IMTx which has some hilly sections. If anyone rides the Ordu or can recommend a better option for me in the $5-7,000 price range, I welcome the info & advice.

You can get the top in one size & the bottom in a different size. They can fit a wider range of body types that way. Go to their website, I think it is "Dessotosport.com"(if not search DeSoto Sport) & look at their size charts. I have one. With my chest size most one piece wetsuits that would fit me would be for someone 6'2". I'm 5'10". I've had the Desoto T-1 for 6 years & am very happy with it.

I have a few questions if you have a chance to answer & you recall you experience with Gayl's 16 week plan. Did you stick real close to the plan's suggested times for the training in each discipline? What was your longest week (hours)? How long was your longest ride & run (miles). It sounds like the plan worked well for your 1st IM, congrats. If you can think of anything else that might help, please let me know. With 3 months to go I have done the 2.4 mile swim 2 times, am up to 12miles running & 65 on the bike. I hope I'm doing enough.

Thanks

The intensity of Gayle's plan doesn't look like it has too much of a "Build Cycle" & seems to be mostly "Base" intensity if that is what you mean. Could you please explain your comment "not being ready for or need a build cycle". And shooting from the hip do you think I am close to where I need to be with 3 months left to the race (does Gayle's plan give me the hours I need to complete the race)?

Thank you. If I am succeessful I will probably do more IM races annd will contact you for coaching.

I have competed in tris since the mid 1980's. IMTx is my 1st attempt at a full IM. My last 1/2 was in 2005. I did 2 oly's in 2011, and was trained (ready) for The Oilman 1/2 iron in November 2011, but had a bad case of bronchitis. IMTx is May 19th. I am well ahead of her 16 week program in time spent. I am up to about 12-13 hrs a week. Last Friday I did a 2.4 mile swim. On Saturday I did 3 hrs on the trainer (Troy Jacobson's "Tough Love" session) followed by a 45 minute run. On Sunday I ran 8 miles at a very easy pace. The week before I had a similar Friday/Saturday/Sunday with the exception of no run following the bike on Saturday and a 10 mile run rather than an 8 miler on Sunday. I am 69 years old & my only goal is to finish.

Thanks,
