Also finished 10th place at FLNats as a junior, and in the upper 20's as a sophomore. At regionals he ran 14:25 on a 3.06 mile course with hills. Last year he ran 15:05ish?

After him it's very difficult to say who, but he is for sure #1 in the state. Nobody has ever challenged him in a race really, including a 9:10 3200 runner from the Woodlands, Reed Connor, who beat three times by 30+ seconds each time.

Craig Lutz (freshman) is currently #2 (or tied for it), because he beat CJ Brown (who was 2nd place and defeated every runner including Reed Connor), at Regionals, and lost to Colby Lowe of course. He ran 14:57 on the course, but Craig Lutz also lost to CJ Brown one time. CJ Brown finished third in their regionals, running around 15:09ish compared to last year running 15:10ish

Another unmentioned runner is Zach Flowers, Region 3 winner on a flat 5K in 15:14. He has been making huge improvements all year and has beaten runners who were ahead of him at the start of the season. Second place came in at about 15:43ish...

[http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Nov-05-2007).|http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Nov-05-2007).]

I wrote track on my schedule for what sport I wanted to do (didn't know it was in the spring), so I ended up being put in cross country. I didn't run for about the first week of school, due to not having a physical, but my first meet I ended up still finishing 22-23 out of a 70-80 runner field. Top 20 receive medals, so I started getting motivated. After that meet, I started running more and more and improving each time. We went to that meet again three-four weeks later and this time I had placed about 15th against the same competition just about.

By the end of cross country in 7th grade, I ended up having a season best time in the 1.5 mile rune at about 9:3x.

...and yeah, that's how I started off running.

[http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Oct-14-2007).|http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Oct-14-2007).]

The interesting thing about the 05' year is that Miranda and Brooke Upshaw still competed well even though they ran at Nike Team Nationals (finishing 3rd & 4th) the past week ago. Brooke Upshaw's little sister (junior now), finished 11th or 12th place as a sophomore at FLSouth.

In 2006
FLSouth
4 Jillian Rosen (12) Dallas, TX 17:15
7 Samantha Means (12) Mc Kinney, TX 17:21
10 Kinsey Farren (12) Dallas, TX 17:28

FLNationals
Jillian Rosen finished 14th, Kinsey Farren finished 26th, and Samantha Means finished 30th.

In 2005
FLSouth
1 Nichole Jones (11) Houston, TX 17:10
9 Miranda Walker (12) Southlake, TX 17:23
10 Brooke Upshaw (12) Southlake, TX 17:26

FLNationals
Brooke Upshaw finished 12th, Miranda Walker finished 23rd, and Nicole Jones finished 27th with a hurt ankle (injured prior to race I believe).

Also, it's interesting to note that Nicole Jones graduated early after her Junior year and ran for Baylor.

[http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Oct-07-2007).|http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Oct-07-2007).]

quote:

Originally posted by Pirate10:

No its not because i ran a 2:11 in the 8th grade and another kid ran a 2:10 a couple of years later who goes to my same school. Therefore i do not find it very impressive.

Let me re-word this:

He is in 8th grade. He is still a middle school kid. He ran a 4:35 and a 2:09, aka sub 4:40 and sub 2:10. He was faster than you in both events in middle school, and in fact, his 1600 is faster than you even now.

So explain to me, how a 2:09 is not very impressive?

Take Duncan Phillips for example, do you think he was some sub 2:00 guy in middle school? 1:50 his senior year with 10 seconds over 2nd place, not to mention him being injured.

Just because you ran 2:11 in 8th grade does not mean his time was not very impressive. He was running a Top JV time in the 800 vs probably no competition, and a slow varsity 1600 time as well.

The logic your using is basically this:

"Oh I ran a 4:00.01 so 3:59.99 is not that impressive, I was also only a high school senior"

[http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Oct-30-2007).|http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Oct-30-2007).]

What we do at my school is this:

We start running at 6:30, so get there around that time. Takes us like 10 seconds to put our stuff in our athletic locker and go out in the hallway and wait for everyone else.

We usually go off campus, and when we do, we usually come back by 7:45-8:00, sometimes a little bit later.

1st bell rings at 7:45, late bell rings at 7:55; after that, 1st period starts from 7:55 to 8:45.

Those who don't have 1st period athletics usually go in a bit earlier; thank god having athletics for 1st period pwns. Sucks, cause he was a senior, and the other two weren't.
For the Team or Individual?

Well, what would you do, if you had VERY capable runners, but were only being held back because the rest of the team couldn't keep up with your face pace? That's how it is on my team, our varsity has two really fast guys, but I just can't help but feel like the rest of the varsity team is holding them back from where they could be. Our 5th 6th and 7th usually hold the pace back a bit, just because were all supposed to run the whole distance run as a group. I mean, they can keep up for a while, but not the whole thing at a fast pace.

So what would you do, run as a real team, or just run at a good pace?

Because I know these two guys can be a lot faster if they were doing a bit more harder on the distance runs. Only days we don't really try to run as a group are on rep days.

The last 400-600 meters is when they start to increase the pace a lot.

[http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Dec-10-2005).|http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Dec-10-2005).]

This year sucked, our two best guys didn't qualify. One ran a 16:38 5k (didn't get time to warm up, and about 8 seconds late start...), and the other ran 16:30 because he was recooping from his knee injury; this was at district.

What's sad is the 16:30 guy ran 16:12 (5k) last year at Regionals and came in 13 (he was our #2 guy last year<del>- we didn't qualify for state), and this year he has been injured for a week, started running again for a week, another knee injury for a week, yet he still runs a 16:30. He's a natural runner, just sucks that he keeps having a knee problem.<br /><br />The other guy ran a 16:50 last years at regionals, and he got 48th</del>- big gap for 38 seconds...

Anyways, they both could have made it to state, but our #2 guy failed (guess what--- he failed HEALTH...) and our #1 guy ran terribly... he ran like an 17:50... Don't know what happened to him during the race, we ran the same course meet during the 3rd week or so of the CC season (september if I remember right) and ran it in 16:25 or so. He hadn't run in like 3 days though, but that still wouldn't make him run this much slower... Competition was slower this year also, since most state state qualifying people were seniors last year.

[http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Nov-13-2005).|http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Nov-13-2005).]

[http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Nov-13-2005).|http://This message has been edited by Heracles (edited Nov-13-2005).]
