My mind wasn't quite right for a run, but I did it anyway. I'm still struggling with running so slow. I'm currently at a 12 min mile, but that's also with the dog stops as well. Knees are talking to me after the run. We'll have to see how that goes later today. Thanks for the words of encouragement MaryKay. Just wanted you to know they didn't go unnoticed. Have fun out there everyone and stay safe.

Happy to hear you felt strong at the finish. Loved all the Pics. You certainly don't look your age and the course was beautiful. Glad you had a good time.

Old Coyote: Happy training for your upcoming full this weekend. Finish strong!

NRDgirl: You must be really proud of completing your first Full. That quite and accomplishment. Hopefully I'll know what that feels like someday. Congrats!!

Linuscatch: Nothing better than going for a run and getting lost in though surrounded by God's beautiful handiwork. Love colorful autumn leaves.

Ericd3043: Nice job on finishing the HM with such a great time. Don't forget to enjoy the journey, not just the finish.

NHLA: I had to laugh at your run in with the deer. What type of dog do you have? My dog doesn't bark at the coyotes either. Guess they have some unspoken language that we just don't share. As for Coon Dog Day in Saluda NC...I had no idea. I'd LOVE to go but I'll have to celebrate with my own Walker Coonhound here in CA for the time being. I'll be back in school starting in Jan 2013. Maybe in a couple of years we'll make it back there for the festivities. Sounds fun!

It's nice to be back. Well, I just finished 4.71 miles this morning. No coyotes...yay! It felt ok, but I didn't push it much. I'm having a hard time breaking out of my comfort pace. Still, I'm new getting back out on the road, so I going to chalk it up for a win to for getting up off the couch. I'm going to sign up for my running event in over a year...a HM next month. I'm really doing it just to finish and get motivated to train some more. My goal for this one, is to finish is less time than my last one. I'm really motivated by several of your posting out there. Keep up the good work everyone. Stay safe and strong out there. Happy running!

I was active on this forum last year up until I did the Disney 1/2 marathon Aug 2012 and then life got in the way. I stopped running and now I finally feel I have the energy to get back out on the road again. Finished 6.45 miles yesterday morning. The run was a bit of an adventure since the pup and I came across a mama coyote and her two pups. The pups were very curieous and wouldn't leave my dog alone...they wanted to smell and interact with her. My dog out weighs the adult coyote by about 20 lbs, but I still don't like her too close. They followed us for 2 blocks! Mom kept coming within 10-15 feet, while her pup would come even closer. I think it's time to pick up some bear repellant for next time.

Over all, the run felt good, but I was a bit sore today. Guess that's the price I pay for my prior laziness. I just wanted to say it's nice to see some of the same people still active on the forum after all this time.

Stay safe and happy running to all.

I was really on the fence as to whether or not I was going to make it myself, but the crowd and the other runners were alot of fun and kept my mind and body moving forward. I really liked seeing all the dancers and characters on the sidelines. It was a great race to start off with...plus the medal was really nice. I was actually starting right behind you in corral E. Given my less than stellar pre-race training I was a bit squeamish to advertise my presence, but I'm really glad you did so well. We'll have to try to catch up at the next race. Sorry about the time delay in my response. I tried to respond last Monday, but the site was down, so this is my second attempt.

@ LPARafael: Sorry you couldn't make the event. Maybe the three of us can catch up at a race some time in the not too distant future.

I just wanted to update you on how the training went...I did start my plan to add the milage but as you all predicted, I was getting an increasingly persistant pain in my right calf when at the start of my runs. In the beginning it would work itself out after about a mile or so, but then it started taking longer and longer to stop hurting and the pain was getting more intense as the days wore on. As a result, I stopped the running all together at a long run of only 8 miles. Still on the day of the Disney HM I decided to see how I'd due after a week and a half of resting my legs. I just wanted to finish and I did at 2:45:28!! I know my time is super slow but normally average between 11-12 mm on the shorter runs anyway. I finished with a 12.6mm avg. I'm good with that. Thanks again for responding. Next time, I'm going to make sure and plan my events during less hectic times then I'll have a bit more time to train. Thanks again. Happy Running!!

I'm realizing I'm a proud penguin too. I've been running for a off and on for a couple of years now. Just finished 6.5 miles at a 13.4mm. I run with my dog and she likes a leasurely run with the occational pit stop or ten. She's the reason I started running in the first place. One of these days I hope to finish my first half marathon, drop about 20lbs and get down to a 10mm, but at 38 years old, I'm happy with where I'm at right now too. We'll make our goals all in good time...and hopefully without injury.

Thickgirlruns: You had me rolling with your comment: "...because right now i'm not quite running like the wind, i'm more along of the lines of trotting like the breeze...but its better than languishing on the couch." But to be fair, Saturday's 6 mile run was plagued with a tight right calf on the uphill for the first 1/3 of the run. Today's calf was better but still not completely pain free. I finished at 1 hr 18min with a 13.1 mm avg. This includes the pits stops for the dog. I know I'm not a speedy runner, but I do the best I can with what I have right now. At the end I was tired but not completely gassed. I'm good with that.
