Without the Infield-Fly rule, would the defense have played this for a double play? (I presume this something they would practice and would not have played as it was).

Can the defense appeal that the final r2 did not re-touch 1st on his way back to 2nd ( after the poor pooch got his )?

The umpire ruled 1 base from top.

Rule set = usssa (or whatever it is called)

inning = 3

outs = 1

count = 2-1

basses = loaded

Pitch sails past the catcher and umpire, then lodges in the backstop fence. Plate ump does not notice the lodged ball aspect as he is watching for play at the plate. FU notices the catcher's inability to get the ball and stops play. Presume the runners have advanceed one base when time is called.

The correct call is....

Scoring question from my in-law. He thinks this happened in a TX Rangers game.

Batter gets a hit. Runner scores. What situations would prevent the batter from getting an RBI?

My wife, the saint that she is, found my son's baseball glove. They had been lost since we moved a few months ago. It was a great day in the Bystander household.

That being said, is it a requirement that all fielders have a baseball glove on when playing the field?

Switching sides of the plate

A baseball question came up on a basketball board I frequent. How many times may a batter change sides of the plate during an at bat. Please compare fed/obr/LL. Thanks.

Here is one for you:

Deep arc shot to RF fence. the R Fielder has great wheels and gets to the foul pole for the play of the day and make the highlight reel. That ball is definately going over but curling into the pole. RF jumps up from a position that his feet both in foul. His glove looks like about a foot inside the pole fair and the ball now for sure going over if he does not catch it.

But the ball clips off his glove and skews off over the fence but definately FOUL..

What is the call?

Is the foul pole part of the fence? On which side of the foul pole did the ball go over the fence, fair or foul?

My original thought was the runner intentionally moves the ball out of the way so he can contact the base, not to interfere, but still intentional.

I thought "loose ball"meant a fielder was nearby.

Does there have to be another play available for the runner to interfere in this sitch?
